  1. There's only 13 of the 19 games in the student package overall (per the article) because six of the games are over semester breaks and not sold to students. They must have oversold the student section to the point that everyone lost 1 game not 4 hence why you got 13 instead of 12. Also you are 100% right that winning cures all ills as the years we were really good during Zeller students showed up every game and balcony was full.
  2. I don't think it matters which of the 200 don't show up. I assume if at 1 hour before tip off there are empty seats on the court level from people who did not come after responding to the email they will grab people out of the GA line and put them on the court and move the people who responded to the email to the higher part of GA in the balcony or higher up in the main level once they show if at all. The reason this was done is to ensure the court seats are used and full by tipoff as oppose to before when they were pre-assigned some students were not using their court game. This ensures everyone has a shot at the court and possibly more than once if you are loyal and email a lot.
  3. I am going by what I was told by a friend who works in ticket sales several years ago and he was very clear that faculty and general public tickets were reduced at end of Knight era and given to students because so many dropped their tickets and IU wanted to keep selling out via season tickets. If he was not telling me the truth or was mistaken I apologize but I am only going by what they told me.
  4. Look I was at every game last year and there were several Big Ten games where the public showing was almost as bad on the west side as students were on the east side (Illinois and Minny come to mind).
  5. It may not be perfect but its better than giving them to students who sometimes did not use them. This ensures all the court seats will be filed by tipoff and used since you will lose them if you respond to the email and do not show up an hour before.
  6. That is absolutely not correct. I have talked to someone I know in ticket sales in the athletic department in last few years and the reason they increased student distribution is because so many alumni dropped the tickets late in the Knight days and they want to keep everything sold out via season tickets and it has zero to do with wanting a true student section. The excuse about wanting a true student section might be what IU tells us publicly but I can promise you that is not the case and it is what I said above. As for the feeler maybe you were not one of the people contacted. I was never told if everyone was contacted but maybe only some where as a sampling and you were not included. I do know the results of how every many people surveyed was over 80% did not want balcony so they kept giving them to students.
  7. Correct by both students and alum. Winning will take care of that and IU is unwilling to sell single game tickets since they want to maximize revenue and announce sellouts for every game. At this point people can differ on whether IU would be smart to sell individual tickets to each game but if we want announced sellouts every game and things sold out via season tickets as its always been there is no other way to distribute tickets right now and you will have empties till team wins. That is the reality.
  8. You do realize that IU gives students that many tickets now because the alumni and general public dropped there season tickets to the point where there are only 8,000 season ticket holders and a couple hundred on the waiting list? In the glory days you had a season ticket base of like 15,000 hence students got only like 2,000 divided up. The increased number of student distribution is because old people dropped season tickets and IU does not want to sell individual games except over break to ensure maximum revenue and announced sellouts every game.
  9. I've addressed this before. The problem is filling the balcony mostly. IU put out a feeler several years ago to season ticket holders on waiting list and no one wanted the balcony seats. Basically its give the balcony seats to students or let them sit empty not sold as Illinois did for many of their weeknight games. Winning will take care of most of the issue except the showing up late part which GA has mostly fixed for the lower seats for TV purposes and now that will fix for court as well with this new promotion. Glass has tried everything with distribution of student season tickets to fix attendance and this is the latest one.
  10. What it does as I said is ensure the court seats is full by tipoff which has been a bit of an issue. My guess is the seats will go to GA people in normal line if the people who purchase these seats 2 days before don't show up by the hour before. Court use to not be GA and many students showed up late or not at all. This ensures every court seat is used by students who really want to be there and fills the section by tipoff
  11. You have to give Glass credit. He's been trying everything possible to fill the student seats closest to court last few years starting with GA so it looks better on TV. This should ensure all the lower level student seats are full by tipoff and you just have issues filling the balcony. Still more to go (although winning is biggest cure) but at least IU is trying to reward the most loyal students with the best seats. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2018/10/29/introducing-the-crimson-guard-seat-upgrade-at-mens-basketball-games.aspx
  12. As much as I like Dunbar personally it appears Aird can flat out coach and knows what he is doing far better than Dunbar. Granted 2 of the 3 teams they played are among the worst in the conference but they actually beat them which Dunbar did not always do. Also took a great Illinois team to the brink instead of getting blown out. Clearly Aird inspires more confidence and positive attitude than Dunbar did in team which is not completely surprising to me.
  13. Was able to confirm today that all volleyball matches for the year will be played in U-Gym till new Stadium is complete. Last couple volleyball games may be in new stadium but if not Wrestling will open it in late November or early December. Now as for team Aird has work to do. If you can't beat Northern Iowa you are not going to win much in an elite Big Ten. With that said I have heard great things about Aird and believe he will turn team around in time just as he did at Maryland but this year is going to be rough like the last few and we will be lucky to win more than 2-3 Big Ten games (out of 20).
  14. You can buy on secondary market through Stub Hub ETC. All games with students in session (and this is one of them) are sold out via season tickets and will have no single game tickets released for those games. Individual tickets will go on sale sometime soon for games when students are on breaks.
  15. I can honestly say I am stunned by this. Dealing first hand with the standoff that occurred 10 yrs ago and left BTN off Comcast for a year I honestly thought it would be a long time before a deal was reached. Introduce cord cutting into the equation now (which I did myself this summer) and I did not think Comcast would be in any hurry to get a deal done. I am glad I was wrong and am happy all of my fellow IU fans who still have cable can watch. This is no small feet and congrats to the Big Ten on getting this done.
  16. Figured this was coming. Still trying to figure out if rest of season will be played in U Gym or Assembly Hall until arena opens.
  17. Does anyone know yet what facility the team is playing in this year? This is clearly not going to be ready until Wrestling season at the earliest it looks like and is delayed even though IU has not been real up front about that. I saw they are holding a scrimmage in Assembly Hall before the season. Other than that IU has not said where the season will be played either because they do not want to give the bad news or have not figured it out. I would assume they will either play one more year in U Gym if it is still available and if it has already been shut down play matches in Assembly Hall. Does anyone know for sure if season will be in Assembly Hall or U Gym as IU seems real hesitant to say given the clear delay?
  18. Traveling for a couple weeks so this will be my only post for a bit but had to chime in on hire. From what I can tell this guy can actually develop players sending tons of unheralded low major guys to the draft. Imagine what he can do with better talent. Appears he also can recruit signing first top 100 class in WSU history. Basically he has all of Lemonis' pluses without his minuses. Also being from Indiana hopefully he can be our Dan Mcdonnell and see us through to the top for a long time. I cannot find anything wrong with this hire and think Lemonis leaving got us a better coach (Lemonis is good with flaws and Mercer like Tracy Smith can do it all and is complete coach). Throughout this proccess Tracy Smith was the mythical unicorn much like Billy Donovan was during basketball. Since getting unicorns is impossible Glass raided Dayton again and got the prettiest horse available that does exist. Great hire. I'm exited.
  19. Pass. While he has had some success he also went 21-32 this season and would be leery of hiring anyone after a bad season. I understand your connection to him and respect that (mine with Greenspan probably clouds my judgement somewhat there) but if were going small Ohio school (which I am all for) Mercer at Wright St or Duncan at Kent St have done far better.
  20. Trust me it may sound the same on surface but it's not. I met Maloney a couple times also and came away very unimpressed. I have not met Smith but every person I know who has says hes great. Maloney also had a hard time adjusting as other teams have gotten better in region. Smith had success and dominated the region after things improved. Also Smith is a great recruiter and x's and o's guy while Maloney has had issues with recruiting for a long time. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I respect it but you seem to be the only one not thrilled about a Tracy Smith reunion (who is a better coach than Lemonis with same recruiting prowess but far better player development issues). Everyone seems to be unanimously lined up against Maloney.
  21. My gut feeling is IU is going to do everything they can to get Smith back and he will say no and they will move onto one of the other names I wrote and real one of those guys in. Again this is a total guess and I don't want to say much in case I am wrong but my gut tells me the wind is blowing that way.
  22. After Mulling it over here are my most wanted somewhat realistic candidates in order: 1. Tracy Smith (this is totally a gut feeling but don't rule this out as much as people think but still somewhat unlikely) 2. Jeff Duncan 3. Scott Googins 4. Jeff Mercer 5. Ben Greenspan 6. Eric Snider I would be fine with any of the above or another out of left field name that is an up and comer. Probably avoid: 1. One of our current assistants 2. Gary Henderson (I know this name is popular after what he did at Mississippi St but to me his mediocre stint at UK makes me pause) Absolutely avoid: 1. Rich Maloney Overall I am willing to give anyone but Maloney at least a chance but would be happier with some over others. If it's Maloney I will lead a rebellion (not literally) and probably lose interest immediately unless he proves something to me down the road.
  23. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I tend to think if you are running a podcast you should be a bit more informed and provide full info on what you are saying. On the IUBASE podcast that I actually really like usually, the female on it threw out Rich Maloney as first possibility. She is supposedly the stat guru of the show but conveniently only mentioned the good of Maloney from his early days when pumping him up. She said nothing of the fact that in the last 10 years as college baseball has gotten better he has struggled mightily and after initial success drove Michigan into ground. Furthermore while his first stint at Ball St was really good, his current one has been very underwhelming. In other words the game has passed him over it seems. I have no problem if this is who she feels is best as everyone is entitled to their opinion but when putting your info out there it is important you give full numbers and not just cherry pick the early days. If she had said something like 'he has struggled recently but I strongly feel at IU he would do better given his early success and support the program has' I would be fine. As I referred to earlier in this thread the one guy I would not hire is Maloney. Guess one person feels differently but judging from what I have read the vast majority are on my side. I hope Glass is smart enough to not even consider him.
  24. Two guys I have heard thrown around that I personally have met and am very impressed with is either Scott Googins or Ben Greenspan. Googins was an assistant here and for Tracy Smith at Miami (OH) before going to Xavier where he did a solid job making Regionals 3 times in his last 4 years. He went to Cincinnati this year and without him Xavier tanked and UC had there best season in a long time. Greenspan is Tracy Smith's assistant who has learned under him for a while. He is indirectly personally responsible for IU's turnaround. As bad as Rick Greenspan was as our athletic director in many ways, Ben's wanting to coach as an assistant is what gave Rick the push to can Morgan and bring in Tracy Smith to work under his son. His ability to develop hitters is second to none and where Lemonis really lacked. I only know Googins very little and met him twice. Greenspan I know better and well enough that if I saw him on the street he would know who I am. I am personally impressed with him but negative is no coaching experience. Obviously first call goes to Tracy Smith but assuming he says no from my selfish point of view definitely take a look at the two above guys. Anyone off Smith's coaching tree is a major bonus in my opinion. Also Jeff Mercer at Wright St is intriguing to me being from Indiana. I have never met him but am familiar with the Wright St program and they have dominated the Horizon League similar to how IU has been the class of the Big Ten recently. I can also tell you having been to many Horizon League games that Wright St's stadium is about as nice as it gets at that level (basically a poor man's Bart Kaufman Field in design) and they are the only Horizon League team that draws a few locals from the community as fans and is not just a family and friends crowd. I have not looked into other names yet but would be happy with any of the above. One guy I hope Glass does not touch with a 10 foot pole is Rich Maloney at Ball St. He was among the finalists along with Lemonis last time and after some success at Michigan drove the program into the ground. He then resurfaced back at Ball St. where he has won very little even at that level. Guy is to old school and has not adjusted in last few years as game has gotten better.
  25. Lemonis is not worth any more dough than he makes if that. If Lemonis said 'Extend me and pay me or I'm leaving' Glass rightfully said 'bye'. Either that or Lemonis just left. Either way its not a terrible loss and Glass definitely did the right thing not trying to hard to hold onto him.
