Sounds a really good possibility we end up in Gator with way things are lining up vs UK. Would be ideal
-
Its simple. Bowls select in order and we are seventh in pecking order. The no. 7 bowl is Pinstripe. However, if PSU or Wiscy get into Cotton Bowl then an extra spot opens up and we move up to Gator Bowl which is 6th. There is no screw job or input on administrations part at all. Just unfortunate the bottom of Big Ten was so bad at that 8 wins made us 7th best Big Ten team. Illinois is going to Redbox vs. Cal seems to already have been leaked as no.8 bowl. NYC is not ideal but better than Santa Clara or Detroit which are alternatives if only Two Big Ten teams make New Years 6 or a Big Ten team is in Orange Bowl (in this case Big Ten loses Citrus and we are back to no. 7 in Pinstripe). This whole scenario seems to have been made clear. Not sure why everyone cannot grasp it. Update: Zach Osterman who has been the most on top of this whole bowl thing just said for PSU to go to Cotton so IU can get Gator they need to jump Utah but stay behind Florida and Georgia (and Wisconsin to still get Rose). Definitely possible but we will see.

Took a while but we pulled away. Now another test on road against mediocre Butler team. Hopefully some IU fans make trip and this is a win. -

And a soccer and a baseball and a swimming and a football school as well as others. Actually seem to be pretty good at everything besides Men's Basketball right now. Who would of thought? -

That's when we need her. Should be able to beat UNF with anyone in lineup. -

Your one year to long. Last win was 98. Still been Forever. Remember we went 22 yrs without a win from 1991-2013 in Breslin but have now won there twice in last six yrs so things can change. -

Illinois seems to be an enigma that either plays great or horribly. Also Turgeon has his own issues. For Wisconsin they seem to have one team that shows up at home and one away from home. Illinois seems to have two different teams that can show up within a game at times and at any place. -

To me the big question is not what happens today but what happens going forward. One loss is one loss whether it is by 30 or 1. The problem last year is we turned one lost into 12 of 13 which is what derailed the season. The key is rebounding and making sure this is only one bad game. If it becomes the norm coaching change coming. One change that has to be made is putting Devonte Green back in starting lineup. Outside of that interested to see how we responded to this spanking and hopefully we learn from it rather than pout. That will determine season. One thing is Wisconsin has absolutely dominated at home and beat a really good Marquette team by almost 20. Their struggles have come when they leave the Kohl Center. Still inexcusable what is happening today though. -

Quick breathier before game at Butler next week. Then Youngstown St for a quick cupcake then a ranked UCLA team in Bloomington. Could win all four of those non conference games but two of them won't be easy. Love the non-conf schedule though. Win all of those and you are a near mortal lock for NCAA tourney with a pulse in Big Ten Season. Finish in top 2-3 in Big Ten and 14-4 or better in conference and you are probably a top four seed hosting tournament games (yes outside of Men's basketball, most postseason tourneys take place on campus till late rounds with higher seed hosting or a four team regional) -
Correct. He's ahead now but Fleck goes up to 4.6 next year so will pass him again.
-
From what I can tell this salary still ranks him 13th in Big Ten ahead of only Locksley at Maryland but very close to several others including Schiano, Smith, Fleck, Chryst and Dantonio.

https://heardonthehoosier.podbean.com/e/crimsoncast-ep-646-florida-state-vanquished-and-bowl-picture-update/ For anyone still thinking IU would get screwed with Pinstripe Bowl Galen and Scott also explained it well on Crimson Cast like Osterman. Its unfortunate luck. Galen and Scott always think IU is getting screwed on this podcast in football so the fact they are going the route Osterman did really should tell fans its not a screw job but bad luck.

Agreed. You absolutely can and many teams do.

I doubt this is the norm but I do expect a Big season this year or next with a Big Ten title and an Elite 8/Final Four run. After that we may settle in as no. 2-4 Big Ten Team who makes tourney every year much like an Iowa which is fine. This is exactly what has happened to both Butler Basketball and IU baseball. Very rarely do have nots go to instant powers for more then a year or two but its quite possible to go from have not to really solid. I would love this to be the norm but don't be surprised if it becomes more like IU Baseball where we have 1-2 really big years then settle in as a really solid tourney team after that on a yearly basis. -
Not exactly. If only one higher bowl is available and Iowa has a better record they take priority over us even if they have been there before. As I said Zach Osterman explained it well. We are in a bad spot given the number of 9 win teams. In this world everyone thinks they are getting screwed and it goes beyond sports which is really unfortunate. Just a bad spot given procedure. We will not Redbox unless we pick it. We will get to pick between Pinstripe, Redbox and Quick Lane if it comes to that. If a Big Ten teams gets the Cotton Bowl then we go to Nashville or Gator. Otherwise either they screw 9 win Iowa to picking between these bowls or 8 win IU and its the lower win total team that gets knocked down which is us. There is a very easy order Big Ten is following and right now IU is seventh. Its the same problem the Pacers are having at the moment. They keep winning but not jumping from sixth in east because everyone else is winning as well because the bottom of the conference is so bad its possible a 50 win Pacer team gets a sixth seed given the divide. That's kind of the scenario IU is in with the Big Ten. The bottom of the Big Ten was so bad this year there was a huge divide between the haves and have nots so an eight win team like us finishes seventh and unfortunately Pinstripe/Red Box are the bowl for the seventh place team. Generally team 7 is a 6-7 win team. Bad Luck.

OSU looks like they will win challenge for our whole conference. Impressive.
-
Full disclosure I am rooting for Pinstripe or Gator since I am traveling day of Music City and Red Box on 30th. I can move my flights buts it quite expensive so I would rather get something I can easily watch. Obviously would prefer Gator and I get why people don't want Pinstripe but to me I would prefer that over Nashville or Santa Clara from a selfish point of view.
-
Bucky looks bad and we have a chance Saturday. As I said not impressed with Gard and as they slip further away from Ryan I think we beat them a lot more regularly now. On the other hand OSU looks good and PSU better and if OSU holds on Big Ten wins challenge. OSU could win Big Ten this year.
-
Can everyone stop feeling like IU is getting screwed? The Pinstripe bowl would suck but its not a vendetta against IU but to many Big Ten teams for the amount of bowl slots in higher bowls. With everyone above us having 9 wins they take priority and with 8 we may get left out since we have one less win. Zach Osterman explained it well. The way we can get Nashville or Florida is if Big Ten gets 3 teams in New Years 6 in the Cotton Bowl, Rose Bowl and Ohio St. BCS Playoff. There is no one I trust more then Chris 007 on this board but there is no way anyone could know where we are going as the above scenario locks us into Nashville or Jacksonville. They could also slot Iowa into Redbox and give us Nashville or Jacksonville if they really wanted to. We may very well end up in New York if Big Ten gets someone in the Orange Bowl or only two new years six games but there is no way IU is locked into a bowl slot yet since that could change depending on what happens in Conference Championship games and where committee slots teams in new years six. We cannot go to the Red Box Bowl unless we pick it since if we are on the short end of the stick Big Ten would let us choose between New York, Santa Clara and Detroit per Osterman (sounds like we pick NY which may be where the rumor stems from). Lastly I am getting really sick of the elitist attitudes on here. New York is not ideal but beggars cannot be choosers and at IU we should be happy to be in any bowl given our history and several eight win teams have ended up in NYC recently. It's the same stupidity I here about us only beating eight bad teams and that de-legitimizes the season somehow. In reality we never take care of business against the bad teams so this is a huge step forward.

That was an ugly game in some ways with neither team able to hit shots but IU did a nice job defending and stayed in control. This was actually the first game I got to watch this year and am impressed. I am not sure this team makes a Final Four run but they do need a really big year in the next year or two to get everyone on board fully. Eventually IU may level off as a tourney team and that is fine given the historical place of this program but you need one big year like baseball had in 2013 to really get on the map and stay there. That might be a Big Ten Championship and a Sweet 16/Elite 8 but I'd like to see IU break through to something special they have never done in next couple years given they have five 5* recruits on team now (Penn, Berger, Patberg, Allen, Holmes) and it shows. -

Agreed. Carsen Edwards was like that for PU, Kamar Baldwin for Butler is as well. Maybe a few others on the teams I mentioned. My point was I like this winning formula with lower ranked players and 1-2 humble stars (Zeller and Oladipo were that) who don't act like stars and a bunch of 3-4 star recruits that can develop into team. -

I like this team with no stars approach. This can certainly work and has at Wisconsin, PU, Butler, Michigan and several others. The question is going to be long term if getting lower ranked 3-4 star players and developing them as a tough minded defense first team is something Archie can make work for an extended period of time like at the above schools. If it is I am all on board. -
I agree with what has been said that a second bite at the apple at the same school like Schiano usually does not go well. Definitely an upgrade from what Rutgers had but certainly no guarantee this works.
-
I still might change D coordinators but I am certainly giving Deboer however much money he wants. He is creative on offense with play calling and turned Peyton Ramsey from mediocre to solid. Also helped Philyor, Scott and several others take next step and for first time since Kevin Wilson era had a fun offense to watch. The game changer this year was finding a way to pull out the road wins against the three inferior teams in Maryland, Nebraska and PU by making plays late. We never win those games in past years. That's the difference between the normal disappointing five win season and the most successful season in 25 years plus. Still issues to fix but this is a major step forward winning all the winnable games and that is a great start!
