  1. Yeah, I don't remember too many kids saying what sold them on a school is the ability to come in and sit the bench and being an offensive decoy when they did get in. Quinones' biggest sin was not use the code words ("looking for an offense that fits my style") and instead using what it means ("getting my shots").
  2. I've lived long enough to know that some people simply aren't happy unless they are unhappy.....complaining makes them happy. There is a reason why you are on ignore by so many people. It ain't them.
  3. Yeah, I don't get the idea that we wouldn't welcome players our coach wants.
  4. And Quinones were to come to IU, you'd be complaining about him not hitting the three well enough in AAU ball. Your act is so old.
  5. All I'm going to say about Penny is a coach is this: although I know it takes time to put a system in place, he returned an incredibly experienced team.....one whose top four scorers were juniors the year before and returned for their senior season....and they had the exact same record under Hardaway as they did under the previous coach. When you return all of your talent and are as experienced of a team as they were (5 seniors, 1 junior and 1 sophomore in their first 7), you would have expected a team that was 21-13 the year before to make the dance.
  6. I don't know about style, but it's very hard to win a national championship with your scoring coming mainly from freshman....especially ones who are one and dones. I think he will probably sign with Memphis -- hope I'm wrong -- but if he doesn't, it's in no small part to Memphis doing last hour recruiting over him on the verge of him announcing.
  7. Quotes from Harris are much different than quotes from Quinones. By all accounts Harris never said his primary goal was shots and minutes.
  8. Maybe, but the scholarships and playing time aren't there for everyone they are heavy on right now. They currently might be listed as the leaders for six players -- four of which are guards -- and currently only have three scholarships open. Even if Penny's so goes walk on, they have four scholarships to give and those aren't going to be going to four guards. I think it's assumed that Precious Achiuwa is going to end up there which would be one scholly taken. That leaves Trendon Watford, RJ Hampton, Boogie Ellis, Lester Quinones, and Arkansas-Little Rock shooting guard graduate transfer Rayjon Tucker -- who visited Memphis last weekend and most expect will back out of the NBA draft and transfer -- competing for the remaining scholarships. The truth is that of those six players, Quinones is probably the least wanted.....he certainly the lowest ranked. Right now it seems like Hardaway is promising a lot of players roles and playing time that he can't deliver on because there are only so much time and shots that he has to give. He's promised Achiuwa that he is going to play him at multiple positions which I think is probably counter productive to the team.
  9. Isaiah Moss transferring from Iowa. Grad transfer, eligible immediately. Averaging 9.2 ppg in 24 minutes last year while shooting 42% from three. Averaged 11 ppg with 39% shooting from three the year before.
  10. I'm basing it on what Quinones had said about getting shots. Can't see that happening if Memphis gets Ellis and Hampton.
  11. Jerry Meyer just picked both R.J. Hampton and Boogie Ellis to Memphis. I'm not sure how Lester Quinones could fit in there.
  12. As long as we're going to venture off course, I'd let Ellie May coach me any time. Would even take a dip in the cement pond with her.
  13. ? We aren't the leader for either. With Watford, we might be third or fourth,
  14. FWIW, I live in near where Don Bosco plays and they definitely have turned non-D1 players into D1 kids -- some being high major. Trace Ramsey didn't have any d1 offers out of high school, went to Don Bosco, and signed with Maryland last year.
  15. https://collegead.com/the-advantages-to-self-reporting-violations-are-abundant/ These reports are filed all of the time. One of the secondary violations listed here was when Alabama temporarily moved a trophy where recruits would see it, a laughable violation of 'impermissible recruiting decoration of an area'. Meh, better off to report the little stuff. Makes the NCAA look bad rather than the school IMO to hear that schools have to ask recruits for $1.15. Drown the NCAA in paperwork on the small stuff I say, because they sure as hell aren't wasting time on the big stuff.
  16. No. You can check the link above and see he never played ball at Brentwood high school. Garland went to Brentwood Academy in Tennessee, his home state.
  17. FWIW, here is a link to Brentwood High School's roster archive. The last season that Quinones played at Brentwood was 2015-6, his sophomore season. He played two years elsewhere (I believe both at St. Benedict's Academy and then went grad prep route at IMG. Make of it what you will, but it is not a case of where he graduated from Brentwood and then went to IMG as a grad prep. https://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/brentwood-indians-(brentwood,ny)/basketball/all_time_roster.htm
  18. He might be a grad prep....but I don't think he was a graduate of Brentwood high school. Here is video of him playing at St. Benedict's Academy prior to playing IMG Academy. I believe that it has been at least two years and two schools since he's been at Brentwood. Still want his talent on IU but I think there is more than is being put forth than Brentwood being the bad guy here.
  19. Just my two cents.....but if he was all those things, then I would think after playing an additional year after his senior year at a prep school would have him wouldn't have him choosing between Mercer, Southeast Missouri State, and U Mass.
  20. I am surprised at the timing of calling off the Michigan visit. The timing seems good for Indiana but it's also positive news for Memphis as well.
  21. I'd assume that Memphis isn't just offering a Penny.
  22. https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Lester-Quinones/Summary/127817 In the summer of '18, he played 8 games of AAU ball as well as 6 games in the Under 18 FIBA Americans championship. In those 14 combined games, he was 34 of 95 (36%) in summer league play. He was at 42% in the FIBA championship. So the 30% number just in AAU doesn't tell the full story of the summer. In terms of what he shot from three at IMG, I'm not finding it anywhere. Did find where he shot 50% overall from the field and 91% from the line.
  23. He pull a Romeo on your girlfriend?
  24. He was 13 of 29 from three (45%) prior to his concussion.
  25. It is in the context of 88 attempts.
