Assuming he's hired (and I am not conceding that point), and he does something that violates "the clause", he's gone and we're starting over again... why not just get it right this time without the risk of hiring an alcoholic woman beater on double secret probation?

He was a Hoosier great (as a player), but he screwed that up to the tune of about $20M over 4 years plus buyout by thinking he could coach without putting in the work. No recruiting. No player development. No fundamentals. No coaching prowess. Hubris. Ego. Entitlement. Fracturing the fan base with the "true fan" crap. He needs to face the music. His legacy is what he's made it in the past 4 years... I'd guess that half of the fanbase (or more) has no clue about his playing days. So, Michael Dean Woodson, come on down and face the music.

Definitely the baggage. The egregious issue of roughing up a woman notwithstanding, if he's already struggling with alcohol issues, sticking him in the fishbowl that Bloomington and IU basketball is will create an untenable situation, IMO.

This is how bad decisions get made. The program sucks in its current state, and the fans are so desperate to get away from the epic crapshow that they would be willing to take jumps to places that they would never go if they were allowed to fully contemplate their actions. When one is in the level of pain (emotional or spiritual) this great, they will grab an anything within reach to alleviate said pain. Chris Beard is not the answer.

True that he did not deserve to be hired, to be retained or to finish the season... but on the other hand, this is 100% his crapfest and at this point, he needs to own it to the bitter end. No sympathy. No soft-pedaling it. Burn it down. TO. THE. GROUND.
