The collection of players vs a team is a by-product of Woodson's laissez-faire approach to recruiting. Just get a pile of money and go rent the 4- and 5-stars regardless of how the pieces fit. He may have gotten the positions covered (guards, forwards, centers), but no clue if they would mesh... thus the "still getting to know one another" comments throughout the past 4 years.

I was thinking about the portal and the timing... what if it's about parity? The better schools are still playing in the tournament, and the coaching staffs will be more focused on the tournament games ahead of them... but the coaches at the schools who didn't make the dance or that are already eliminated will be able to more fully focus on the portal... this would make more sense for the pro level, though, as their players would be able to play as long as they were able, as opposed to the limited 4-5 year playing period for college kids. Or, maybe it's a push towards the GM model - coaches be coaching, and the GMs can be working the portal and making contact with players. Or, maybe you're right. :D

Jordy may have been the connection, but I think that Zrno was looking to get a bag, and Woodson was the guy handing them out.

Would loyalty be an issue? Serious question, as I know Calbert was close with Woodson... don't think DeVries would be threatened by that, just curious of that would be a thing on coaching staffs...

I've got a hunch that Dolson knew in November that Woodson was done after this year... I think Quinn told him :D :D :D

Yeah, the unhappy bunch are working overtime to spin their narrative. It doesn't matter. Darian DeVries is the guy. I believe what Scott Dolson said, and regardless, Darian DeVries is the coach... I like what he says, I like what he's done, and those with their panties in a wad over it can go root for Purdue or Kentucky. They say that he's not their coach? Fine. GTFO and go root for somebody else.

Also a 50+ year fan... and as nice as a Mullins flip might be, there's already plenty to be excited about... the Wizard of Broad Ripple and his lazy ways are gone, and Indiana has a young, energetic coach who knows what he wants in players and in a team, and has a clue about Xs and Os... I'm so excited that I'm ready to buy a Pontiac.

Lighten up, Francis...if you really believe that, then go root for a team with "nice things"...

I am curious to see which of these guys, if any, CDD wants to keep. We saw a lot of the "collection of players" under Woodson, and very little "team"... we got a glimpse of it off and on throughout parts of the season, but as a whole, it was a collection. I wonder how any of these guys would respond to a real coach, with a real vision for his team. And to be fair, a some of these guys were playing out of their natural position, and with no scheme, I'd guess that they were left to their own devices (aka "street ball") in a lot cases... I would say that I am fine with whatever team Coach is able to put together with parts from recruiting, the portal, IU's last group and any WVa players that he can bring with him.

I am sure that he believes that (team vs collection)... and if he has seen any of Indiana basketball in the past 3-4 years, he has to know that was what Woodson did... so can't say it was actually a shot at Woodson, but it was truth...
