The texts and calls were wrong (e.g., rules violations)... but can you seriously tell me that you're ok with the rest of it? If I have a vote, Sampson will NEVER be welcome at IU again. But, alas, I don't really have a voice in the matter...

Do I speed? Not any more. I used to, but I found out that if I don't, I still get where I am going. The difference between 5 MPH over the limit and 120MPH is to allow for calibration issues with your speedometer... I know that to the speeder it's a free pass, but that was never the intent.

Yep. That is what integrity is all about... it's about doing what is right (following the rules) when no one knows or is watching or will ever find out.

It's not HMP that is the issue for me... it's the dirt... no thanks... just because "everyone else is doing it"... have we become that impetuous team that wants to do what his friends are doing regardless of the safety or wisdom of such an action?

To be fair to Texas, Marquette and Shaka... Shaka didn't leave anything... he was fired and sent packing... there's the tell-tale difference.

I thought that I read somewhere on this site that McRobbie said no additional cost to IU... meaning (without donor infusion) that the IU athletic department would pay the new guy no more than Archie was getting per his contract... IF that's true, we would need donor cash for the buyout (transition costs?) and for additional salary.

Why? Because hiring a "coach in waiting" shows a lack of long-term confidence in the guy you hired to run the program. It's says "Here are the keys to the kingdom, but don't put them on your key ring, and don't hang any pictures in your office... we've got this guy waiting in the wings for when we replace you in X years".

I can't unfollow him... just can't do it. (I've never followed him.) Just ignore him... typical trollish behavior - just looking for a response which feeds his behavior.

The only scenario it makes sense is if Dolson hires Beilein... but I suspect that if he was going that direction, we'd be done with the search... since he's not done, it's not happening, and the coach in waiting thing is a non-starter.

Would agree on Fife, but there is something about Lewis that just clicks in my mind. Lewis is tough. Lewis is smart. Lewis has grown and learned at every stop. He has an edge to him - it's not a chip on his shoulder, per se... but he has a passion for basketball - INDIANA basketball... I think he could build a staff that would help where the gaps in his armor are... and I honestly think that he would be successful here. Fife may have some of that, but I've never heard him express it in interviews the way Lewis has recently. If I'm in a war, I want Lewis in the foxhole with me.

Well, weren't you just a little dollop of sunshine. I have learned one thing riding out these coaching searches... 2000-now. We can post. We can weep and wail and gnash our teeth. We can stomp our tiny little feet and b*tch and moan... but at the end of the day, we have ZERO say in anything... I initially started trying to keep up with this and the other candidate threads... I'm retired and basically have no life, and it's just not possible. As the old saw goes, opinions are like armpits (or massholes) - we all have 'em, and they all stink... so let's just ride this out and see where it gets us BEFORE we fire up the torches and round up the posse.
