Good God! This is NOT encouraging. This suggests that either the roster assembly is TOTAL garbage or the coach can't lead. Others have questioned why no player other than junior followed him here, sounds like perhaps he isn't held in high regard by his players. Yeesh!

My view is that Cig has been so successful because he has a solid system, and (mostly because) he identifies talented players that don't have lots of stars next to their name. I have little doubt that such players are out there, but does DD have the reach to find and/or identify them? I don't see him luring high demand difference makers during the portal period. And we need multiple difference makers. I don't know if the answer is to bring in a super recruiter or expand contacts overseas.

If this were football, we'd be the homecoming opponent for most of the B10...

What you say does seem true, but is Michigan a "destination"? Or Auburn, or any of the other non-traditional basketball schools who've been outstanding recently? I got crapped on for expressing my displeasure over the DDV hire, but either I was justified or the goalposts have been moved. I recall being told "with OUR resources" we can return to the top levels of CBB quickly (because, you know, Michigan & Louisville). Well, that sure hasn't happened here. I certainly believe CDD is a definite upgrade over Woodson in coaching ability - but that might just put him mid-B10. We saw foot dragging during the off season in assembling a staff and a truly mediocre use of the portal. HS recruiting seems non-existent and this season isn't going to provide a boost. Fair or not, after the past 10 years it feels like a an annual rearrangemennt of lawnchairs on the Titanic.
