Purdue making a deep run in the NCAAT would substantially put additional heat on Woodson, as fan pressure would exponentially increase. That's a silver lining of Purdue having success this March. If Woodson flames out in the NIT a week or 2 after defiantly telling fans "I've done my job" and then we fans watch Painter take Purdue to a Final 4, then yeah, that won't sit well with me. Those words may come back to bite him.

I get it. Maybe he could fit, and it would pay off. I would be a terrible leader for my team at work, but I'm damn good in my role now. Sometimes people aren't cut out for certain positions. And there's nothing wrong with that. However, Bob Knight used to say "Don't let mediocrity infiltrate your program." Kenny Payne would be mediocrity infiltrating our program. Adding him to a staff that already includes Woodson and Armond Hill means it's digging in and setting up a permanent home.

Yep, he and Mike Woodson can have contests on who is less to blame for the team's shortcomings next year.

It's all pointless anyway on if the meeting actually happened or what came of it. Nothing will change the fact Woodson is coming back next year.

To me that team is slightly below what we had in 2022-2023. Not great, but definitely not awful either. Without seeing a schedule, I'd guess 21 wins and a 6 seed in the NCAAT. With no foundation for the following year via 2024, we're right back where we started in 2025. The problem is that he absolutely needs to hit home runs this portal season to achieve what you've laid out. The margin for error is very small.

They definitely cheered, but it was at that point they would have cheered anything that came out of his mouth since he is a fan favorite and it was his moment.

Just got around to watching Leal's senior day speech. Other than when he was introduced, there wasn't a thing he said that I would have applauded for. "There's a reason you guys aren't coaches." OK Anthony, and there's a reason no one else hired Woodson to be their coach. There's a reason he was fired from the Knicks after 3 seasons, and there's a reason he only won 46% of his games.

How big of a black eye is it for Oklahoma to lose their head coach to DePaul? I don't care if he's from Chicago. That's pretty shocking.

I can't help but feel like we'll win 2 in the BTT and lose on Saturday. Suppose that will make it interesting come Sunday, but the venom and vitriol will be out again at approximately 7pm after we don't make the tournament. But he'll definitely be back because Dolson/BoT will see a 20-14 record in a vacuum and say hey that doesn't look too bad. Lots of roster overhaul, and it'll be rinse and repeat next year. We're in college basketball purgatory.

It's not a rumor that our coach is the worst. Frustrating that despite a 4 game win streak to end the year, we're not going to be in the NCAAT. Where was this fight in January when we lose 4 of 5 and get blasted by a bad Penn State team at home who was without its 2nd top scorer? I wonder what Dolson or any of the powers that be think of Woodson proclaiming "I've done my job" and "I'm not going anywhere". I hope they were watching and thinking "uhh slow down there Mike, we'll talk about that."

Fair enough. I guess I like to leave out the obvious outliers when speaking in generalities. I think most people just want the bandaid ripped off because it's clear he's not getting us to where we want to be. Whatever. I'm not rooting for us to lose. I'm just not tuning in and rooting FOR us. And the team and coach essentially telling me I'm not a true fan may make it pretty difficult for me to fully embrace them again.

Just as incredibly tone deaf as Woodson. People aren't upset that we've won 4 in a row. We're upset because it's become painfully obvious that he's going to be retained, and this 4 game win streak against mediocre teams is apparently a good enough reason to give him another year. And if I'm going to get excited about next year, I'm forced to be a fan of a style of basketball I abhor, at a program who now has to resort to buying talent in the portal rather than recruit and develop players, because the coach is too lazy to recruit.

This is the first coach I've started to genuinely dislike. I won't count Knight because I was only 15 when he was fired. Davis seemed like a really good guy. Just in over his head. Sampson wasn't here long enough for me to form an opinion. Crean and Archie seemed quirky and aloof but likeable enough. Woodson has an ego that he has never backed up in his coaching career. Now he's calling out the fans who can clearly see he isn't the answer? Talk about tone deaf.

Galloway and Leal returning just means we won't be worse than Crean's 2008/2009 team. That team had practically no seniority or leadership.

This seems to suggest if we want Woodson gone, then we should root for a W today, but be one and done in the BTT. You're gonna need to explain that one to me.

The problem is they still have to be recruited by a coach who won't even take the time to learn their name. That NIL $ pool didn't seem to register with Liam McNeeley. I'm trying to be optimistic about our huge increase in NIL funds but the reality will play out so much differently than our perception. Other schools have plenty of NIL resources too. The negative recruiting Woodson will have to deal with will be as effective as it will be relentless. Purgatory.

After we fired Archie there were random nuggets insinuating Mike Woodson was on our short list to replace him. Usually national guys like Goodman or Parrish. I would immediately laugh them off as uninformed. "No way we'll hire Woodson" I thought. And here we are.

I still can't believe we hired Mike Woodson.

That's probably part of Woodson's plan, to poach FAU's roster.
