Lots of good games on today, starting with Purdue at Maryland at noon. PU loses today and they can pretty much abandon all hope of winning the B1G, yet I think they pull it off on the road today. I keep waiting for Maryland to stumble and come back to reality.

Coach Tom crean to Missouri (rumor or whatever)
AKHoosier replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Is this a result of my post yesterday? If it is, there's no rumor or anything as far as I know. There was just a Missouri fan on TOS national board saying a bunch of their fans have Crean on their wish list. Regardless, I do think it'd be a good fit for him. He'd do really well in the SEC, especially because he does seem to have Kentucky's number. -
FWIW a lot of Missouri fans are hoping they can make a run at Crean after this season, as their coach is just pitiful. I think this would honestly be a good fit, and not that far-fetched. Crean is just a better fit for a school that plays with a chip on its shoulder and pulls the underdog "they don't respect us!" line, instead of a program trying to be consistently elite. Given everything that has already happened this year, and everything that is pretty likely to happen from here on out, I think there's a good chance IU and Crean mutually part ways in a few months and he ends up somewhere like Missouri. He'd be the right guy for a rebuild job there.

I'm hoping 8bucks is a pseudonym for Fred Glass.

Fred Glass accepts mediocre basketball
AKHoosier replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm sorry but if the only reason you support the school is because of the basketball program, that's ******* ********. -
Archie Miller is probably just as inclined to go to NC State after this year, assuming Gottfried gets fired. I had no idea Archie Miller played there. NC State is terrible this year.

Thanks again for starting this thread man! Cut the cord this week and it's my first weekend of AT&T with the Vue combo on my PS3. It's been such an upgrade and I'm saving a decent amount of money. The only drawback is that the guide seems to lag a little bit when I'm trying to flip through channels, not sure if that's the Internet speed I'm at (6 mbps) or my controller, but it's not a huge deal. Definitely an upgrade overall.

TCU cheerleaders in HD. Wow. I kind of wish our cheerleaders would adopt attire like that.

Good win, I'm sick of losing to MSU. I still think we have a razor-thin margin for error to make the tournament. We're already playing from behind essentially due to the early conference losses to Wisconsin, Maryland, and Nebraska. The back half of the schedule could be brutal. Like I've been saying, you can hope a change is made, but I don't want us to turn into a laughingstock of a program. That won't do any good at all.
-
Agree. We were unranked and 13-6, 7th in the B1G with him. The only way it factors in is if he somehow turns it around and we win 9 of our next 10, finish top 3 in the B1G, and go to an Elite 8 or maybe Sweet 16. I highly doubt that will happen. But for the record, I'll definitely be rooting for it to happen since I want us to win no matter who the coach is.

Yeah Ronald Nored would be a great candidate for assistant coach. I'd like that hire, as I feel like we need some youth and energy out of some of our assistants. He would be able to identify with 17-18 year old kids, not being that far removed from that period in his life. He'd be a great addition to our next staff imo.

Unfortunately I agree with this. I don't know much about the NBA right now other than what I follow through the headlines, but if someone who knows more than me can tell me what the likelihood of Russell Westbrook leaving OKC is, because I know he can become a free agent after 2017-2018 if he wants. If he bolts, Donovan knows his time there will not be long. And man, I don't know if there is a professional franchise that hasn't won a title in the last 5 years whose arrow is pointed higher up than the Celtics right now. Everyone believes in Brad Stevens, he has the support from management and fans, players respect him, and I think they have another lottery pick this draft too. It would take an awful lot to pry Brad Stevens away from that situation. It's nothing at all like the Harbaugh/49er situation that caused him to bolt for Michigan.

Dude give it a rest already. Everyone on this board knows your stance. Glass and Crean are tied at the hip. Glass will extend Crean at least one more year after this season. You're just speculating like everyone else.

There are actually a plethora of reasons. I know it's a heck of a long shot too, I'm not an idiot. But sometimes a guy wants a change of scenery, new challenge, and last of all, MONEY. If we could offer him between $5-6M/year, we would effectively double his salary. BTN money is real. And oh yeah, Roy Williams literally did exactly what you just said. I don't care if he "went home" or not, he left voluntarily.

I agree with this, but I think if we do make a change, he's the first person that Glass would call. Our AD wants someone he can get along and not butt heads with, and the administration doesn't want a larger-than-life hire that would make basketball the tail that wags the dog at IU. I believe Dakich when he says this. Glass wants a guy that's the rah-rah type, hence why he could get rid of Kevin Wilson so easily and replace him with Tom Allen. I feel like Holtmann would make both Glass and the administration happy. Glass would feel like we got a good coach experienced in Indiana who could recruit the state, and the admin gets a guy who won't be able to essentially hold the university hostage when he wants to, ala Knight. Which is a shame, because I feel like if we pooled all of our resources and had everyone working toward a goal of hiring the best coach possible, we could get someone like Stevens or Bill Self or Billy Donovan. Sadly, I don't think the administration wants that. I wouldn't totally hate the idea of Holtmann though, he is a good coach. Just not a home run that I think the program needs right now.
-
Trust me, you do not want that. We're not very good now, but we can't become a laughingstock and lose at home to Penn State, Rutgers, Northwestern, and then get smoked on the road by whoever we play. That would immensely damage the perception of the program, the future of the team (Davis, Green, Jones) would question why they're even here causing some to strongly consider transferring somewhere else, and 2017 commits and recruits and probably 2018 recruits would completely tune us out as an option due to us being not only irrelevant on the national stage, but a laughingstock of a once-proud program. Just let it play out. I firmly believe the most realistic outcome at this point is a 17-14 regular season record and out in the first round of the BTT. No way we don't make a change if the above plays out. But to root for a 12-19 overall record would set us back at least another 2 years.

If Ohio State keeps losing and misses the tournament once again, I could see them making a change or Thad Matta bolting for another team. He looks like he just needs a fresh start somewhere Illinois should make a run at him. He's from the state, and he'd be an instant upgrade over Groce in recruiting and coaching.

IU vs. Rutgers official game thread
AKHoosier replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No kidding. Green and Davis must suck in practice or something, they both should be getting way more time on the floor. At least we didn't put in McSwain and McRoberts for too long though, although the latter gave us a solid minute of play. -
Just for sh!ts and giggles, I went over the RPI of the other blue blood schools, as well the teams in the B1G ahead of us of right now: Kansas 4 Kentucky 6 Louisville 9 Duke 12 UNC 16 UCLA 19 Minnesota 10 MSU 25 Maryland 28 Illinois 35 Purdue 40 Wisconsin 46 Nebraska 50 Penn State 67 Ohio State 93 Indiana 99 This is nuts.

Very true. His salary (which is interesting in its makeup) is just over $3M/year. IU and BTN money could throw $5M at him if we're serious about trying to sway him. Also factor in the stability of each school's respective conference. The B1G is obviously improving and not going anywhere, while the Big 12 is losing members and in a state of flux. It's entirely possible that he may get tired of winning the Big 12 every year, maybe it has lost its luster after the last 12 times. Still think it's the longest of long shots, but who knows. He may be ready for an entirely new challenge, kind of like Roy Williams.
