College Football Oversight & Compensation
tyappleg replied to Old Friend's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
In the 70's and 80's it was fine. But now with the billions of dollars in television and ad revenue they absolutely were being used to make millions and millions with very little in return. (Yes, a scholarship and an apartment is very little in the grand scheme of things) It's been a whole different game for a while now. -
College Football Oversight & Compensation

Letting a few hundred kids go to school for free costs the school nothing. Meanwhile the players are bringing in millions and millions of dollars for the schools. While ideally there would be more regulation, players deserve to get paid more than a free scholarship and an apartment and I'm glad they are finally getting it. Feel free to keep that 1980's mindset though. -

The system has taken advantage of the kids for 100 years. I'm fine with them taking back some control. -

IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates

There is a current QB on the IU team that just won the Heisman Trophy who also "bailed" on his team. It's not 2004 anymore. Getting injured in a bowl game can literally cost some of these guys 3 million dollars. I dont really blame anybody in line for a huge payday for sitting out. -

TCU didn't have an O-Line, Running game, or much of a defense this year. He was basically a one man show on offense; which led to some mistakes on his end for sure. He doesnt appear to be very mobile. But if you can put him behind a decent offensive line and give him a run game, I could see him taking a leap with us. He has some cons for sure (turnover prone and lack of mobility), but he can also make some throws not many can make. It would be a slight step back from a Fernando Mendoza (but almost every QB would be), but would still be a very good pick up in my opinion. -
IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates

My guess is they absolutely intended to have Fernando for 2 years, expecting him to then hand it off to Alberto his junior year (assuming Alberto continued developing). Fernando ended up ahead of schedule and is almost locked to be #1 QB drafted so they are caught in an awkward situation where they dont think Alberto is quite ready as a sophomore so they need to find somebody for next year. -

He was also pretty terrible most of the year. Don't want Indiana anywhere near him in the portal. -

If Moore leaves, then id expect it to be Oregon too. Big if though. I feel like Moore would benefit from another year in college. -

While I dont love how his time ended at ASU and his completion percentage is a little lower than I'd like. Hard to be upset to get a guy who led ASU to the CFP as a freshman. He also has some dawg in him. -

Raiola to the portal. He took a noticeable step up in performance from last year. Interesting to see where he ends up. Not 100% sure the juice is worth the squeeze with him. But 72% completion percentage with 18TD and 6 int as a Sophomore is nothing to sneeze at. Especially considering how inept the rest of Nebraska is on offense. -

It is real, checked his IG myself after I heard about it. I hear he is suing for 4 more years of eligibility because he lost. /s. I'm sure voters are extra happy with their vote after seeing that sore loser ****. -
