  1. Tie game. 3:40 to go
  2. George Mason up 8 at half over George Washington. George Mason is a team to keep an eye on. Could be an at-large candidate
  3. St Joes/VCU tied with 7 min to go
  4. Personally I think that’s overblown. Kids go where the money is now but kids go where they have a connection with the coaches. Some really good players over the years have gone to non contenders. If Wilkerson wanted to go to a title contender he should have went to Kentucky instead of coming to a program with a new coach in place. There will definitely be kids that will want for a chance to play at the highest level however there will always be kids that want to go where they fit. Also most these high level kids have egos and feel they will be the different in making a team a contender. Most recruits don’t really pay attention to college games during their high school season. They are too busy playing video games or following NBA
  5. In the old way I would have agreed with you but in this new age of college basketball I personally don’t think a bad year sets you back anymore even in a coaches first year at a place. I used gates as an example. In his first year at Missouri he killed it and went 25-10 and made the tourney. Second year he went winless in the sec and 8-24 overall. 3rd year back to 20 + wins and the tourney. Crazy times nowadays in the college athletics
  6. IU missed out on a Q1 home opportunity against a lower seeded tourney quality team. This was one that in my opinion was there most important game up until this point. Ius problem in past years were not winning home games against tourney quality teams. This year they are 0-2 in that category. As a lower seeded tourney team you need to take advantage of your home games and so far IU hasn’t done that. Lucky for IU that B1G provides so many Q1 opportunities that if you get hot string together some wins then you can go from a team on the outside looking out to a team safely in the field. An example this year is St John’s had played themselves out of the projected field but then got hot and won 4 games in a row and they are now projected safely in the field. With each passing day they are making harder on themselves to make a run however the path is still there and has always I will lay that path out until that path isn’t an option anymore.
  7. They just need to get one of those coaches that’s standing in line waiting to coach IU or one to come in on a white horse and save the program. Either way I’m here for the grind
  8. Glimpses of it but unfortunately I think he missed on too many of the 13 spots he needed to fill to see his potential. I recommend going back and watching some old drake games from a couple years ago where he had a big post presence or watch some of the West Virginia games last year. Misses are on him and his staff however in my opinion he’s a good enough coach to recognize his faults last portal cycle and make the proper adjustments. Who knows but I’ve watched him coach enough to know he knows what he’s doing.
  9. He is known as a grinder so I’m sure he is as pissed as you that they are not winning. This is only my opinion but for someone to be as successful as he was at Drake and to turn around West Virginia I refuse to believe the guy forgot how to coach once he stepped foot at Indiana. Maybe IU is cursed. I know his colleagues rave about him as coach and I know West Virginia fans were really mad when he left. I don’t know. I think he can coach. I’ve watched him coach at Drake for all those years in the valley and respected the way his teams played and competed. I respected the way his teams played last year shorthanded and thought they got robbed at being in the tourney. I hope for his sake it was as simple as missing on some evaluations. I think the biggest problem is that a 2 time MVC player of the year and a kid that was playing like a Big 12 all conference performer before he got hurt last year has clearly lost his fast ball and doesn’t look anything near the player he once was and to make matters worse it’s his son. Getting next to nothing out of a portal top 20 recruit isn’t helping. I personally can be patient for rebuilds because I love college basketball as a whole and don’t need IU to be good to enjoy the college basketball year. If IU stinks I’m still going to continue watch and enjoy the sport. IU being good is just a bonus
  10. Embrace the grind. DeVries isn’t responsible for the program being a mediocre middle of the pack B1G program for the last 20 years. He is trying to turn that around and evidently hasn’t been able to turn 20 plus years of crap into gold in 18 games. I have 0 clue if he can turn it around but in my opinion 18 games isn’t enough data for me to wave the white flag on his time at IU. He will either figure it out or he won’t. If not people will be on here holding out hope they next one can figure it out. If DeVries figures it out then people will embrace him and talk about how great of coach he is or became.
  11. Every situation is different. Plenty have sucked in their first years and then went on to become hall of fame coaches. Different era now so the chances a coach can work his way into it at a school will become less and less. Tang at Kansas St came out of the gate hot and was looking like a fantastic hire but the last couple years has cooled off significantly. Gates at Missouri started out with a 25-10 year with a tourney appearance. Went winless in the sec the next year (8-24 overall) and then made it back in the tourney in year 3. Who knows what can happen
  12. Which West Virginia players did you want to come over with him? When filling out 13 scholarships the odds of missing out on players is going to be higher then only having to fill out a couple of spots. I’m not convinced he brought Enright in to be a starter at first. Maybe bring in a kid that is familiar with the system that you had success with in the past to help the other players with the system. DeVries had a chance to bring him to West Virginia when he got that job and chose to bring him to the Big 12. Bailey is a miss for B1G style play however he had some pretty big programs after him when he chose IU. I think (my opinion only) DeVries has acknowledged that the B1G centers style is completely different than the bigs that are in the Big 12. I think he under estimated the B1G style. Hopefully with a full staff in place he can learn from his mistakes and fix it for next year. Having 5 scholarship players contributing nothing is not helping. Although from reports the 2 international kids are not taking up hardly any NIL money. Less the ln a mid major player. I don’t know the answer.
  13. Year 1 was critical for some fans not all fans. I’ve seen coaches destroy it in year 1 and everyone thought it was a home run and then struggle after and on the hot seat by year 3 or 4
  14. In today’s landscape teams will have to re recruit their own players every year. As a program you could plan for bringing back your core players but nowadays you never know. Very few Sisleys out there that are loyal. I’m hoping he is. I don’t know the answer or how to navigate around it but most coaches will have to deal with it. New team every year. It’s not just happening mediocre programs and teams. Baylor thought they had some nice pieces back this year from a tourney team and a team that has been extremely successful over the last 6 years and this year they lost Wright to Baylor when Drew expected him back. Baylor had 0 returning players Wild times. I guess what I’m saying is nowadays you can plan all day on bringing core players back to build your program but that’s not a guarantee anymore
  15. Ole Miss wins it. Miss St missed a layup to win it
  16. Miss St just took the lead over Ole Miss with 30 sec to go. Ole Miss ball
  17. I never said it did I just answered a question. IU is a middle of the pack B1G program in basketball until they are not. DeVries will either figure it out or he won’t. If he figures it out then awesome and if he doesn’t then hopefully the next hire will.
  18. San Diego St wins it Texas Tech with a 28-6 run to end the game. Wow
  19. New Mexico up 2 with a min to go
  20. New Mexico/San Diego St tie with 3:21 to go
  21. High level game. Tech with back to back 3s and they are up 7 with 3:27 to go
  22. Sam Diego St/New Mexico MWC always delivers
  23. DeVries 3 assistants at WV 1. Chester Frazier and Illinois grad who back in the day got into it with Eric Gordon when Gordon came back to play at Illinois. 0 chance he was coming to IU and Hansberry was going to follow him where ever 2. Kory Barnett an IU grad that got the head coaching job at Oral Roberts Head coaching opportunity is a better opportunity then being an assistant 3. Tom Ostram Ex IU assistant that already got fired from coaching at IU I get it really sucks IU is in this position however it’s not like McCollum has been lighting the world on fire at Iowa. Until today he was 2-4 in conference with 0 road wins and 0 wins against tourney quality teams. After today he is 3-4 in the league with his first road win and it’s debatable if he has a tourney quality win yet. He clearly was the better coach today but until today his season was the same as DeVries.
