It's not a great look for the current IU staff to see transfers playing well. Says something negative out the staff's ability to develop talent. I understand this is just a few games, but something to watch and consider as the season moves on.

I can remember when NC State hired Lowe, a former player and failed NBA coach, in 2006. I thought that was the epitome of desperation and no hope for the future. Oof. -

Went to a high school game tonight. One team played 4 out and the other 5 out. It was sloppy and lazy and fundamentals were severely lacking, but the general movement, decisiveness, and pace of both squads marked a real contrast with Woodson's "system." Really disappointing to see the game evolve at the high school level but not at IU. -

To be fair, you have to in part by high school talent too. It's not like money is only in the portal. He didn't didn't just buy portal players, Ya recruited the transfer guards. They are here because of him and the money. -

You said things like this before. If I could just listen to you and forget about a quarter century of IU mismanaging the program I could find contentment this season. -

TJD wasn't going anyway else. The NBA didn't want him at that point and he wasn't going to make more money elsewhere. Sure, congrats on keeping TDJ, but the other options weren't great for him. Regarding Race, he seems like a nice person and I totally appreciate the effort he displayed on the court; however, IU would have been better served if Woodson didn't try to play them together. Race could have backed up TJD or transferred to Minnesota. Either would have been preferable to how Woodson rolled them out together. Race is a great example of the folly of Woodson--trying to make Race into something he wasn't foe wo years instead of adjusting to the modern game. -

If this is Dusty's dream job, then it doesn't matter. I don't know that it is. Also, in many ways it's easier to leave after one season than it is after multiple years of success where everything is in place organizationally for your program, you're a more prominent member of the university's community, wife is entrenched, etc. -

Not sure I understand your comment. There are a lot of people who want to live in cities and not towns, even gorgeous college towns. And there are people who want to live in rural areas, not cities. Obviously I think she should live in Bloomington ; ) -

To your last sentence, I had always heard she didn't want to live in Bloomington. Nothing close to the source, just mentioned in passing from people who seem (or seem to think) they know. Just curious if you've heard differently. -

You're pointing out an exception to the rule. Also, the reason he exerted so much control is because of what you said. He built it. So, the money people behind UW athletics trusted him and gave him the automony. The big money people at IU didn't trust Scott and didn't give him autonomy after Archie was let go. Maybe they will now. Maybe not. But the money people behind big college athletics are real and they often do rule behind the scenes. Sometimes they are benevolent and in lock-step with the AD, sometimes not. -

I liked your post because IU has proven to be woefully inept at evaluating and reeling in a talented basketball coach. Don't get me wrong, I'd like this to be Woody's last year, and this may be splitting hairs, but I'd give the edge to him over Archie. -

One of the issues with Crean is that he didn't listen to his assistants. Like Woody, Crean had a massive ego. He could not let himself defer to an assistant on a different way to coach defense. Time often heals old wounds. I get that. But Crean would still be coaching at Georgia or at least coaching somewhere if he was half as good as our memories have distorted him. -
And his defense has gone from horrendous to just really bad. I'll see myself out. ; )

The truth is the MSU AD set this up. He's the one that dreamed it, called KU, UK, and Duke to arrange it, etc.

Not relating this to Woodson cause I'm not a true fan, per his assessment; but I don't think either will dry up at IU for different reasons. Short-term recruitments will continue to exist as players get recruited over and want to transfer, or ball out and look for greener pastures, or coaches change schools so kids don't want to stay committed. There seems to be a lot of donors across the money spectrum that still love IU and want to do what they can to support the program. The money may dry up if enough donors are really upset, but the money part of recruitment isn't just a concern with Woodson's recruiting ability or IU even at-large. That's such a tremendous recruiting and retainment resource that every school is constantly strengthening and developing new pipelines. No coach can consistently recruit top talent without it. Now, some coaches can develop talent, which maybe we should or shouldn't fear under Woodson. I think we've seen examples of great player development and player stagnation. -
I'd like to get to Seattle and Eugene. Any idea on when/how to get tix through IU?

What job did IU give EJ's dad? Davis screwed up that receuitment, then we hired Sampson and he hired assistants with connections to the Gordon family. I'm sure IU did even more, but I hadn't heard his father was given a job. -
