Anyone know when fall practice officially begins? I know it's usually the first week of August or so. Should be able to get a better picture of what the team will look like then. -

Yeah all CB's on 247 are going with WVU. Unless his teammate, Gavin McCabe, can convince him to join him in Bloomington. -

I think having the team stay at Four Winds the night before a game is a great idea! Get the team well rested and focused for the games. I remember when I was at IU and would see football players out at the bars the night before games. -

From a twitter Q&A that Coach Allen did with the IU Alumni Association: @IUAA: @CoachAllenIU @HoosierFootball With the 1st game of the season fast approaching, what #iufb tradition are you looking forward to the most as head coach? @CoachAllenIU: @IUAA @HoosierFootball We stay out at Four Winds Resort the night before games and enjoy our time together as a team in that setting! @IUAA: @CoachAllenIU @HoosierFootball Speaking of traditions, do you have any traditions that you have as a coach, or plan to introduce to the team this year? @CoachAllenIU: @IUAA @HoosierFootball We're creating a tunnel for our players to enter the field prior to kickoff. This will increase the level of intensity to our entrance. -

Bleacher Report seems to be pretty high on IU for the upcoming season. On their record predictions for every program under new direction, they have the Hoosiers at 7-5. Here's what they have to say: "For Indiana, on-field results weren't the issue over the past two years. A traditionally mediocre program won six games in 2015 and 2016, making bowls in consecutive seasons. But head coach Kevin Wilson was investigated for allegations of mistreatment of his players, and resigned under pressure in early December. IU wasted no time in naming his replacement, elevating defensive coordinator Tom Allen to head coach on a full-time basis. Indiana returns nine starters to a defense that showed significant progress under Allen's watch, and quarterback Richard Lagow (who threw for 3,362 yards with 19 touchdowns against 17 interceptions) and wideout Nick Westbrook, who caught 54 passes for 995 yards and six touchdowns, will be vital players. The Hoosiers start by hosting Ohio State and traveling to Virginia, and their Big Ten slate continues with a trip to Penn State and hosting Michigan in the first three games of league play. IU does host Wisconsin and has nonconference games versus Florida International and Georgia Southern. There's reason to believe Allen will make the decision to promote him look smart. Predicted record: 7-5" http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2716438-predicting-2017-win-loss-records-for-every-college-football-team-under-new-direc -
IU Football 2017 Recruiting Class

From a 247 article a few days ago: "Over the weekend, it was revealed that defensive lineman Cassius Peat won't be rejoining the Michigan State football program. Peat signed with Michigan State in the 2015 class but left the Spartans last August after not participating in camp. He cited family reasons and was granted a release to transfer to Pima Community College in Tucson closer to home in Arizona. After committing to UCLA to continue his playing career in September, Peat was invited back to Michigan State on an official visit in December and did not sign with the Bruins in February. He later said that he was planning to come back to Michigan State and enroll in classes this summer. However, MSU coaches told Peat last week that he could not return to school at Michigan State. Peat said he was admitted back to the university and did not know why he the coaches told him no. Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio briefly addressed the situation Tuesday but declined to get into specifics. "It was unfortunate what was written, I can say that," Dantonio said. "I think we've been in contact with Cassius throughout the semester. There are certain things that you got to be able to get done before you can come back. So it's one of those things. But I don't want to speak bad about anybody." Dantonio was also asked if it's still possible Peat joins the program. "Not this fall," Dantonio said. Spartan Tailgate has been told Peat's academics were in fact not in order, and that is why he will not be coming back to Michigan State." -

IUFB Offseason Updates

Bleacher Report ranks IU's wide receiver corps as 8th. best in the country ahead of the upcoming season. This is what they had to say: The group: Simmie Cobbs Jr., RS Jr.; J-Shun Harris II, RS Jr.; Taysir Mack, RS Fr.; Donavan Hale, Jr.; Isaac James, RS So.; Nick Westbrook, Jr.; Justin Berry, RS Fr.; Jonah Morris, RS Fr.; Chris Gajcak, RS So.; Luke Timian, RS Jr.; Phil Benker, RS Fr.; Whop Philyor, Fr.; Tyrese Fryfogle, Fr. The star: Simmie Cobbs Jr. is a 6'4", 220-pound jumbo target who will be an awesome weapon for first-year offensive coordinator Mike DeBord, and he's also a big reason the Hoosiers could be even better than they were when Kevin Wilson was coaching. He posted 1,035 yards on 60 catches in 2015 before missing all of last year with an ankle injury. Why they're here: When Cobbs was down a season ago, all Nick Westbrook did was rack up 995 receiving yards, and the Hoosiers also return speedy J-Shun Harris, who has missed the past two seasons with knee injuries. He's the perfect complement to the two big receivers when healthy. The Hoosiers are going to fling around the ball, and they've got the guys to light up the scoreboard. That's three pass-catchers who will compete with anybody in the Big Ten. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2715268-ranking-the-best-receiving-corps-for-2017-college-football-season -

Would be incredible if he ended up in Bloomington but have to think Michigan is the heavy favorite here. Edit: Michigan already has a QB committed for 2018 (Joe Milton)...so there is a chance? -

IUFB Offseason Updates

I would move MSU into the toss up category. They had an awful year last season and with all their off field issues, who knows how they will look this fall. From an article I saw over the weekend. "Eight players who were underclassmen on last year’s 3-9 team now have left the program. Linebacker Jon Reschke – who admitted to a making “an insensitive and totally regrettable comment involving a former teammate” – and defensive back Drake Martinez joined Gaines, Lukusa and Lyke in transferring out of MSU. Dantonio dismissed a fourth player, Auston Robertson, after the defensive lineman was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct in April. MSU also lost defensive lineman Malik McDowell and safety Montae Nicholson to the NFL draft after their junior seasons."
