No clue, but if he doesn’t want to leave (yet) it won’t be because of Drake’s contract or what IU can offer.

During our last few coaching searches I have casually, half-heartedly, and with some curiosity, thrown this guy’s name around as someone to consider as a wildcard coaching candidate. He was incredibly dominant at the D-2 level with an .800 winning percentage and won four national championships. He’s also young, only being 43. Naturally, most people on this board scoffed at the idea. Division 1, let alone Indiana, is a whole other animal than coaching D-2; he needs to prove himself elsewhere first; if we’re going with a lower-level coach then it needs to be Michael Lewis because “he gets Indiana basketball”; etc. It made sense to be dismissive at the time, but I remained intrigued. Anyway, Drake finally pried him away this season, so we’re now getting a chance to see him coach in the Missouri Valley Conference, but with this still being pre-conference basketball he hasn’t been coaching against MVC teams. Instead he’s 6-0 already and racked up double digit wins over Miami and Vanderbilt. I know our season is just getting going, but assuming we continue to see the results we’re expecting out of Woodson, I hope that we seriously keep an eye on this guy as an actual coaching candidate. He’s going to get his chance at a P5 program very soon at this rate, and if Cig’s success at football shows us anything it’s that maybe it’s the unconventional guy from a smaller school who consistently wins that we’re looking for. You’re not getting 3 ACC teams in. With that said, we should play it safe and win by 60 this weekend.

It makes South Carolina beating them look better to maybe get a 4th SEC team as Alabama’s backup hedge.

The team that lost shouldn’t be penalized compared to the third place team in their conference, but they absolutely should take it into account when weighing it against teams from other conference. Remember when Wisconsin lost to OSU 59-0 in 2014?

I think it’s very likely that at least one of the teams ranked 5-9 doesn’t win this weekend.

11-1. Purdue never won 11 games!

Nope! Back in 2007, which is probably the closest year that parallels this crazy season, West Virginia was a win away from playing for the national championship. They just had to get past a 4-7 Pittsburgh, at home no less, and they lost. They still talk about that game like Buckner in Boston. Now this Purdue team is awful, but we need to get our passing game rolling again before the post season. There is going to be more chaos next weekend. Texas, Miami, Notre Dame, and Tennessee are all on the road against competitive opponents. Then there is Clemson v South Carolina and Cal v SMU. If Michigan’s offense clicks like it did yesterday, they have enough talent on defense to hang with OSU. Even Georgia Tech isn’t going to be easy for Georgia, nor Arizona for Arizona State. You cannot understate rivalry week chaos when there’s finally parity in this sport. Just win and don’t give the committee any excuses to think twice about Indiana being on the bubble.

Once we started rolling and had a chance at the CFP I said I actually preferred we did just enough to make the playoff but not have to deal with the big ten championship since we’d prob be 11-1 anyway. Maybe this is for the best. But I hate Ohio state. What a waste of the color red pairing it with gray…
