(edited for big wink clarity) Not that others aren’t more connected here, but if you all recall in Feb. 2017 that I was privy to some inside info about the IUAD starting to move the wheels in dismissing Crean and that it would happen after the season ended…that same contact/booster gave me the “big wink” this afternoon. Instead of undertaker gifs I’ll code speak in what an NDA looks like in practice through the How I Met Your Mother finale speculation…(watch from 0:28 - 1:00 if interested). I can be a bit more candid than others because this contact’s job/influence isn’t at stake.

Not only that, but with the way football revenue is flowing in these days for SEC and Big Ten schools, non-traditional basketball programs are receiving a ton of funny money, and they can spend on par with the basketball schools that actually care about being good. There’s a reason why IUBB can’t pry away Nate Oats, and it’s Nick Saban’s success. I’m surprised Georgia hasn’t found its way into the top 10 yet.

If Kansas or Duke hired McCollum this offseason, would folks laugh at them or be disappointed it wasn’t us? How do you all think he’d do at either of those programs?

Duke hired Jon Scheyer, UNC hired Hubert Davis, and I’m still not sure who Kentucky’s coach is. Again, it’s a new era folks.

Not at all. But because they still happen with some regularity in college football people are expecting the same in basketball. It’s a new era, folks.

If McCollum retired today there is a legitimate argument he’d eventually make the basketball HOF as a coach. Several D2 coaches have made it with less success than he has had. They just stayed at their schools for decades to accumulate more all-time wins.

Exactly. Duke, UNC, Kentucky, and Louisville have all been in the same situation as us for their most recent coaching searches. And I think all of those programs would give a hard look at McCollum right now if they were hiring this cycle.

Folks realize that absolutely nothing will be announced or leaked until IU’s season is over (and if we hire a current coach until his season is over), right? If Elon Musk asks you to name five things you did this week, make sure it’s not just speculate on BTB :)
