Purely hypotheticals: -If it was known months ago Stevens would not quit the Celtics before the completion of the NBA season. -And Dolson et al were very confident, if not assured, they would get him. -And Archie had to be fired as soon as our season was over due to potential player transfers, fan backlash, recruiting fallouts. -Then Dolson and the rest of the team has to continue to throw out smoke screens and misleading information or the fan noise would be reaching a crescendo

It's a longshot but maybe it's not within Stevens nature to quit on a team mid-season. Some people actually hold on to shreds of integrity.

Or all that junk about Boston was just posturing for more money. I mean, the guy isn't dumb, he knows IU would do anything it takes to get him.

The pandering speech in the last Stevens pressor lead me to believe we still had a slim chance. It felt more like posturing from him because it seemed out of character.

That's a dangerous plan. College basketball is about the head coach. How many assistants can you name on Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas staff?

This hire is going to be divisive no matter who it is at this point. I think IU basketball is in a really tough spot until we actually see some consistent winning. Hopefully that happens in the next couple decades.

Agree and waiting to hear the Celtics announce the raise/extension. This was either some unforeseen mishap or miscommunication or IU was used as leverage.

Yeah, I don't get the way he did it. I know we are all overanalyzing a few minutes of one mans discourse but the whole thing just was off. Maybe someone at IU rubbed Stevens the wrong way.

I just don't see Stevens as the type of guy that would say that. Maybe that's him. Whatever it was, it felt weird.

Did this statement really seem genuine to anyone? I thought it was odd and disingenuous at best. Seemed like he was just pandering to the Boston fanbase.

Like someone else said, money is the ultimate motivator. It appears IU is ready to pony up. My concern is we pony up for the wrong guy.

Crean won...until he didn't. Many Hoosier fans have become so cynical/skeptical/irritated by the last 2 decades of basketball that the winning better come quick and consistently.

I don't know who is on the short list at this point but I feel like whoever it is will be a disappointment to a lot of Hoosier fans.

I was thinking how embarrassing it would be as an IU fan to have the NCAA tournament hosted in Assembly Hall in the midst of a 5 YEAR tournament drought. But now, think about the redemption of a Brad Stevens announcement during the first tournament game at Assembly Hall in 40 years! Tune in tomorrow
