I guess they’re finally going to awaken the sleeping giant that is Kentucky Basketball recruiting. Maybe they will finally be able to land 5 of the top 10 players instead of just 3 next season.

I can’t remember who it was, maybe that Scotty D cat, but someone said something to the effect we should be rooting for wins not losses for what seemed like this reason. I don’t believe it, but it is certainly something to watch.

The lack of official statement from the AD is one of two things IMO. Either Dolson does not want his name on a direct report because he disagrees with the decision and it his only way to protest, or, they legitimately don’t think they have to and we don’t deserve/need verification. The silence from his office during this is deafening. I don’t think it means anything we want is happening, but it is interesting.

The other is Kansas. I tried showing him actual facts and he just ignored every post. Even examples like Utah State are disingenuous to what he was arguing and cherry picked to fit a narrative. Yes, they took in 6 transfers. But that wasn’t because it is their technique, they lost 8 to the portal. It wasn’t a choice it was a necessity due to having a new coach. The other examples are the same (KSU, TT). Really TT is the only example that fits the argument as they hit it hard again post-beard and have been marginally successful.

If we let OSU hire Dusty and he immediately wins, that train will have left the station unless Dusty REALLY REALLY wants to coach IU. We are at watershed moment in some ways, and we should have a pretty good idea what next year looks like when the portal closes. The needs are obvious and clear, we either somehow meet them and hope for average to above average results, or we don’t and next year could really set us back. My canary in a coal mine is center. If we land a starter level center, then there is no way we modernize. It will be more of the same. If we land a rim protector for the bench, maybe we try to change. While MR has developed, he can’t be trusted at the 5, he will foul out every other game. Our roster is a catch-22 right now.

So true. I’ll be honest, had they made those speeches after winning the BTT, I would have nodded along and taken the medicine. They were acting like some massive proverbial monkey got removed by 4 wins against floundering teams. Two in which we squandered big leads and one we had to come back from down big. Win the BTT and talk all you want. Maybe Michigan does us a solid and beats PSU? Lol a guy can hope!

I actually like the draw despite how bad we played against PSU and Nebby. It’s hard to beat a team 3 times in a season. After those two, all bets are off IMO with how well OSU is playing. Illinois is definitely not inevitable at this point. I don’t see a path to beating Purdue unfortunately— we would need help there I think.

I try to get some actual work done and come back and my boy took his ball and went home? Unfortunate, I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for the spreadsheet to tell me how many teams have been really good with a ton of transfers. He never had time I guess. I suppose I will have to rely on 24/7 and my own eyeballs for that answer.

I was aware of his time at Kentucky when I wrote it, and it was mostly a joke based on his outlandish press conference. I don’t really care who Woody hires at this point. I say mostly because it is more about optics right now and the idea of stacking failed head coaches on staff to me. Maybe he’s the best recruiter ever, I don’t know, maybe he’d completely turn us around with HS recruits, I don’t know, I do know Kentucky lost exactly zero beats on the recruiting trail after he left and he’s won 12 games in two years. Maybe he could do what a 2X FF participant, 5x B1G champion, 4x BTT champion couldn’t and get Woody to use him.

Yea considering that dude ran off our only consistent source of information out of sheer frustration, I imagine it will slow down unless @Chris007 decides to reengage. I have a hard time believing the AD would have wanted that. It went over really bad for the most part. Being that arrogant after beating a bunch of bad teams wasn’t a good look.

We agree my man. I was merely pointing out that it’s more the coaching than the players he’s playing with. There is enough talent that this should be a tournament team.

This is true to an extent, but Cupps isn’t exactly playing with scrubs either. His center is a likely lottery pick. We were in every mock bracket to start the season until we got nuked by Auburn and UCONN

Another dumb question…Do we expect the main targets to enter the portal immediately? Is there any benefit to a high value transfer waiting for some dust to settle before announcing their intent?

All this rabble will come to a head pretty quick next season. Battle for Atlantis has Arizona, Creighton, Oklahoma, WVU, Gonzaga and Davidson. Be shocked if the TV people don’t match us with Arizona or Gonzaga early for the eyeballs. Another national television waxing by Arizona would be unenjoyable.
