  1. Is something like this collective based/run? This seems more in the "spirit" of what NIL was supposed to entail, at least to me. Company makes licensed products, uses the players NIL to sell them, and kick back some profit. https://indiana.nil.store/collections/mens-basketball
  2. Except all of that assumes competition. If we (I am talking about the royal we, IU), set the value at a level where there is no competition for the services of the player we are making up the market value to our own ends. IMO, keeping a roster as intact as possible whether said player actually fills a need. The players aren't taking advantage of the market, they're taking advantage of IU because IU is desperate for players/continuity. Again, I do not have a problem with it, if IU is dumb enough to overpay to keep some semblance of the 23-24 roster intact, the players can and should take advantage of that.
  3. I'll bite lol, except that "free-market" isn't determining the value of Leal, Banks or Gunn. We are. We are setting a market price that no one will come close to meeting. It is like giving a coach no one else wants a 1 million dollar raise for mediocre results.. Otherwise, I completely agree with you. On a personal level, if IU is dumb enough to give a guy who barely plays six figures, I am not going to fault the player, in fact, I would support them-- get that money. It is the program that is at fault.
  4. I regret that I have but one like to give for the cabbage. Bravo.
  5. I have wondered about the portal and whether a player the caliber of MM or MR (who would both garner huge interest and money) would delay while fielding offers behind the scenes. Maybe delay until you know there is a greener pasture if simply winning basketball games is not that important you to prevent burning any bridges at IU and that potential payday. Obviously there is no planet where we wouldn't take someone like MM back if he dipped his toe in the portal but decided against it, but the optics of someone like him entering are devastating from a program perspective in my opinion and he obviously would know that. Contrast it to someone like Dickinson who stated pretty clearly NIL was bad at Michigan, no reason not to jump in with two feet and go to the highest bidder so to speak. Yay free agency for IU basketball.
  6. The bridge stuff was BS when it was stated. It was the same as Woody agreeing to Matta and Fife and then not using them. I’m convinced now they knew the hire would go over with a collective dud, which it did, and were trying to soften the blow. It all seems very calculated now in hindsight to appease the fan base and slide in QBs guy who everyone knew was wildly unqualified for the job. They said “bridge” so we would all take a collective breath and think maybe he could be a short term answer as we look for “the guy.” It was all a snow job.
  7. Thought you guys might appreciate this. Facebook memory, 10 years to the day. Hilarious coincidence given our current state.
  8. Its interesting but the rim protection is still a problem. I do not see how we trust MR to log major minutes at the 5 and stay on the court. It somehow seemed like he cleaned the fouls up a little but he still basically averaged a foul out per 40 minutes lol I think it was like 4.4 fouls per 40.
  9. At least anyone in my orbit that was still on the fence about keeping him jumped fully into the fire bandwagon when we officially had zero recruits. It is hard to argue with that, unless of course you for the IU administration.
  10. Maybe someone else can answer this, but is Woody so insulated from outside noise he really has no idea how hot his seat is? I mean I get being arrogant, but it is so hard for me to believe he has any desire to deal with this next season. Could he possibly believe the players he needs are going to fall into his lap for next season based on it being IU and dollar signs? I know not to underestimate the power of surrounding yourself with yes men, but it feels like he is living in a different universe based on some of his comments. If whatever he heard/saw was enough to warrant the true fans comment, he legitimately has no idea what he is in for nationally and in Bloomington if they start like 5-5 or drop a couple to cupcakes. Or does he just not care because he made 220,000 dollars per win this season? Okay after typing that out, I see it. He is never leaving of his own volition. My B lol.
  11. Maybe if you are going to take over a dumpster fire, it's better to take the dumpster fire you know?
  12. 5 minimum. Don't forget portal expert Woody couldn't land a guard last year when we needed one and left a scholly open all year.
  13. And already tried to gaslight the fan base so they have a built in excuse when he doesn't.
  14. I initially read this as Pearl. The brain is funny thing when it wants something to be true.
  15. I would guess that's more related to him coaching a FF caliber team at the moment. My guess is if we want Bruce we need auburn to bounce early. Root for UCONN to the FF lol
  16. He would be high on my list of "getable" P5 guys. Hasn't really coached east of the Mississippi but is from Wisconsin. I think he is a star in the making.
  17. No, but I have 5 fouls to give and I can't take them with me.
  18. Also dont know if anyone else is following along at home or work (lol whoops) but the 24/7 transfer portal entry page is updating in real time. I have been refreshing it randomly when I get a moment and its been growing by the hour.
  19. Garrison from OSU entered today. No Hoosier ties but 6-11 7.5pts, 5.5r and 1.5blocks a game. Gonna need rim protection. Decent numbers for only 23mins a game. Had a couple 20+ pt outbursts in B12 play.
  20. Sounds like Louisville thinks highly enough to hand over the keys to their broken down Ferrari to him.
  21. This is probably the best descriptor for what the program has become in this entire thread.
  22. So much this. As much as I have wanted Pearl the last two hires it seems like that ship has sailed. Coaches just do not leave P4 jobs with FF caliber rosters. If what I have trolled from AU boards is to be believed the HC in waiting for his son is a large sticking point that I assume IU would never agree to. I have a hard time believing he would leave because of the UA contract and not having a basketball only facility. Who knows though.
  23. I don't necessarily disagree with the risk, but what is the alternative? If we don't move on for another year, that is going to most likely mean two years of no HS recruits. Dusty would at least refill the roster immediately as best he could. The thought that we might not be seriously pursuing or in the running for recruits until the 2026 class is unconscionable to me. The only way I would not want Dusty this season is if Pearly was a real possibility. The consequences of bottoming out next season are dire IMO for the next guy.
  24. So how quickly do we expect to know who enters the portal? I would think those that want to would enter as quickly as possible given how crazy portal season has gotten and the limited P4 options. I also wonder about teams in the tournament, and players waiting to enter until the tournament is over. This is going to be an interesting off season lol
  25. First, appreciate the update @JerryYeagley23 and while disappointing I think most were expecting something along those lines. I only have a couple thoughts and if this already got addressed and I missed it, apologies in advance. 1). When you say gauged interest, was it with the understanding it would be for 25-26? That seems like a large sticking point if conjecture on 2 of the candidates being May/pearl is true. Or are we talking just general interest if IU was open? 2). What is your opinion on next season? If this goes poorly (I believe it will) are we riding it out and pulling a Michigan? It is hard not to look at this and see someone “bigger than the program.” It would appear HS recruiting is officially dead at IU until at least summer 2025. The next coach is going to have an uphill battle to say the least. We are going to have to hope the next guy can pull a Cignetti and bring contributors with him. I do not, on a personal level, want to see Woody and the players we get go through what I believe they will next year. It’s all pretty sad.
