It was an example, but yes, pretty sure he got a truck and was able to promote it on his social media. In my day we just watched players drive around Btown in brand new cars their parents must have leased lol. It was literally illegal for a basketball player on scholarship to say, I like icy hot and get paid for it because of who they were. It was absurd. We absolutely need regulation or governing body, I went into it a while ago. The easy example is a person on music scholarship can make money teaching people how to play an instrument. A basketball player can’t make money teaching elementary school kids how to play basketball. And it was because of the ncaa.

I mean labor issues aside, it literally does. Prior, it would be illegal for an athlete to endorse a product due to their name and image. They were already getting paid under the table. Now they can at least go on TV and say “I’m Malik Reneau and I drive an F150, you should too, and buy it from your local southern Indiana Ford dealer.”

I am with you, he has to strike now. FAU is such a terrible job, he can’t afford to do another build. They are going to lose enough that he’s gonna have to develop another group (which for the record I am sure he would), but his earning power and career prospects aren’t getting higher at FAU than they are now. He has to move up. I don’t think most people realize just how hard winning at a place like that is. IU football is an easier job than FAU basketball.

Holtman won 20+ five seasons in a row and didn’t miss the tournament and got fired mid season in his only down year lol. Not sure that’s a safer choice if that’s a concern. Only he and Matta started with five straight 20+ win seasons in their entire history.

I gotta think if Louisville is targeting Dusty and he would build a staff of IU or IU adjacent people UL would want a pretty massive golden parachute built in for the university. I think the buyout numbers would be insurmountable. Thats at least what I would do in their position. They can’t risk another coaching search anytime soon. It’s all so depressing. People keep forgetting we are in the Battle for Atlantis in November. The TV people aren’t going to miss a chance to pair us with Arizona or Gonzaga. And the zags might be third best team in it. We are going to learn real quick whether the season is going to be a dumpster fire.

We also have actual data sets to support that. Last offseason. Needed a guard and a shooter. Got neither and left a scholly unused. That was my argument with that one dude. Acting like we are the only program who needs guards and has money is just ridiculous. Maybe they will prove me wrong, but saying I am skeptical would be the understatement of the year.

Also unsure if anyone posted it here but Oats is off the board. He signed an extension that will make him a top-5 paid coach. Numbers not out yet. Our money doesn’t matter anymore. Everyone has money to spend on basketball, and even football schools are doing it.

I’m somewhere in the middle. I could never root for losses, but I am pretty indifferent to the results. No matter how it goes he’s a lame duck. And that does not bode well for recruiting— portal or otherwise. We are 100% all-in on Cash Money being the recruiting tool. I am fairly convinced it’s going to be a disaster, but I will hope for the best simply because I don’t like watching IU lose.

I don’t think we are going to have the bodies, and they know it. The next 48-72 hours are going to be interesting. I don’t personally think he leaves because I don’t think he gets the money or usage elsewhere, but even AC last night finally commented on how bad/disconnected MR has looked for the last like 10 games. He looked like he was rounding into maybe an all-B1G type player and completely fell off the wagon. It’s probably nothing but I firmly believe we get at least one extra transfer no one outside the program is expecting. Edit: ACs student reported also stated the NIT news was making the rounds through press row several minutes before the game was even over. Osterman just waited to post it until the game was over.
