2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves

Galloway is the one we want in my opinion. Leal is a nice player but I think Galloway is the kind of kid we need Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
(2019) PG Austin Van Zyl

Who cares about other offers? That doesn’t make a player good or a fit for a program, neither does their high school ranking. Again, I don’t care what a kid is ranked or what other schools are interested, I care about the end result of whether we prioritize the right kids for this team and needs. If a kid is a great talent but doesn’t want to work, he is a mistake. If he is a great talent but doesn’t understand his role or doesn’t mesh well with the coaches and team then he is a mistake. If he is a gym day that isn’t a great player but is a great teammate and practice player maybe he is a great decision. Ranking or no ranking, the kid needs to be a fit on so many levels and that is the job of the coaching staff to determine. With Forester for example, he obviously was not a great fit beyond his lack of skill. There had to have been numerous glaring issues with him beyond his lack of skill and that makes him a bad decision. So, in many ways, a Gelon may have been a better fit at the end of the bench. You are now changing it to “name a kid that Archie offered that seemed like a stretch”. It’s about the kids ability to perform at Indiana university, not high school rankings and how many other offers a kid had. It’s his job to sort through all of that and determine who can produce at IU. Nothing else matters, that’s why I don’t question any offers whether it’s to a 200+ ranked kid or a McDonald’s all-american. I wait to see what the kid does at IU and some are good and some are not. The ones that are not good we’re not good offers. Archie is not infallible, he has made bad offers. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

You don’t think it had anything to do with the fact that we were SUPER thin on bodies all year and he almost never saw the floor? He was either not very good at all or Archie was making a colossal mistake by not playing him. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

How do you figure? Several of Archie’s recruits have not proven they can play in the BigTen. A few sat the bench the entire year while we struggled and then transferred and others have just sat and do date have shown no signs of being ready. Point is, you cannot say there is zero evidence to suggest that Archie would be interested in offering a guy that is no good when not only has he offered but accepted commitments, spent a year or two in the system with little to no fruit/proof they can hack it. 2020 General Recruiting Thread

This type of stuff isn’t helpful. The facts are/were that Archie identified that kid early on as a priority and that kid chose Purdue. Is it possible we backed off, sure. Not every kid we focus on early becomes the player we expect but when Archie invests a lot of time into a kid and that kid chooses Purdue it doesn’t look good. Nobody said we would never recover Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

I don’t know anything about him but we will have 2 open scholarships so if he doesn’t play or just fills in next time we have 5 guys on the DL I’m cool. Even more cool if he is a legit contributor Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Close games were going our way which is why for 14 games I thought “yes! We finally have a smart coach and gritty team to win/close out close games!” My thoughts were a bit premature Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I’m not upset we didn’t hire calipari. However there are a bunch of coaches that have come up in this game since Knights firing that would have been awesome for us and we went 0-3 thus far and the jury is very much out on #4. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

They are a WAY more talented and balanced team than Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt has 3 good players and their best player was hurt all year. Their supporting cast was god awful and lead them to a disastrous year. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Love your objectivity. Your a good middle ground that calls it pretty accurately imo. There are the sunshine pumpers and the negative Nancy’s and you are neither which is refreshing F-Dub Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Memphis. And as it relates to UK, our top target was their backup to a backup to a backup etc. I hate it but cheating or not, they get top talent that puts them in contention year in and year out Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
MikeRoberts replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That is correct. It doesn’t change the fact that he couldn’t help us this year when what we needed was shooting and that is what he was supposed to provide. He has 3 years to continue to get better and maybe he will. Point is, the staff needs to evaluate talent and put together the most balanced roster that will succeed now and in the future and perhaps he is a part of the future but we needed players that could be a part of the now and future, they were available and on campus and we passed or took other players over them Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Of course it’s revisionist. We, mostly support Archie and his evaluation of players so when it’s made clear that he wants a kid and that kid commits we all rejoice. BUT, when those kids don’t pan out, of course we question those evaluations and offers and prioritization by our staff. I don’t recall anyone throwing a fit when moretti left campus without an offer but after taking his team to the ncaa finals this year, I do question that decision, especially since he shot 46% from 3 and we didn’t have anyone that could hit the broad side of a barn. Whether it’s Henry, Moretti, Anderson, Forrester etc, I support and give it some time. When time determines a decision to be a bad one I think it’s ok to call a spade a spade Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
(2021) G Luke Brown to Ball State
MikeRoberts replied to HoosierCoop's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
If he is a better ball handler and shooter than Jordan Hulls at the same age, we should offer now and push for a commitment. He was a four year starter and a key piece to our #1 ranked team. What am I missing? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
See above. You said last year was a disaster. Enough said. I’m cheering for Archie but I am not going to argue with anyone that says they wish we would have gotten one of the other two guys. Nobody in Columbus or Louisville are saying last year was a disaster but we are in Bloomington. And, when it really mattered and OSU and IU both needed wins it make the tourney, OSU wiped the floor with us to give Holtmann his 4th straight victory over Archie to get his team in to the tournament Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
-
This is the best summary. Mack and Holtmann collectively made the tourney 3-0. Collectively 4-1 against Archie. Collectively recruiting VERY well and filling important needs. For those giving him a hard time, do you believe Archie is doing better or just challenging him for the sake of challenging him? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Too bad he is a cancer and not coming back next year. Wait, scratch that all of a sudden Pretty crazy how this board went from being certain he was at the root of all of our chemistry problems and that there was zero percent chance he came back to now talking about how important he is. I couldn’t care less about size. You can’t have starting 5 of 6 footers but having one that is a hard worker, playmaker and scorer is not a bad thing. Some of the best players in the nba are scrawny as can be Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
