It is pretty hard to imagine how he got the job to begin with. Maybe we will hire a lawyer as our new assistant coach Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Is Chuck going to F us here? Looks like all the crystal balls are for South Carolina where Chuck Martin is the lead recruiter. His biggest recruit at IU was the magnificent Curtis Jones Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

This does feel like a Crean recruitment if I’ve ever seen one. The kid won’t have enough time to figure him out which works nicely in his favor Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

I cannot imagine why we would drag this out. Cannot be good for us, the coach nor the school he is leaving. He faster he gets in, learns the nuances of the school, the staff, the team, our recruits and our system the more impactful he will be Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

How’s Luke Brown doing? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
I agree. The approach to recruiting seems right and one most can get behind. As the previous poster noted, it has to translate to wins otherwise it was just good in theory. Nobody is expecting to win big right now, I don’t hear anyone saying final four or he must go, but making the tournament needs to be a consistent bar. I’m not saying he should be fired if we don’t make the tourney this year but I think he will lose a lot of faith if we don’t. That would be 3 years of no tourney under him and 4 years in a row. It’s not that high of a bar, 64 teams make the tourney and there is no reason we shouldn’t be one of those Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Yep! Kinda my point, these kids that are in high school now idolized Hulls, Watford, Yogi, Zeller, Okadipo and while there might be some recognition that there was a ton of success and even bigger success before them it doesn’t really register or mean as much as it was not in their impressionable years or even lifetime Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Hooked is the key word. I think most need that hook. For some it was 76, 81, 87, 93, 02,12 but those hooks have been fewer and farther between lately. Was it the 12 success that hooked Leal and some others? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Are we reaping the rewards of having a #1 team in the country 7 years later? Do these guys have a love/interest in part due to that that others had not? I grew up watching Alford and Cheaney and seeing us be a top team. I’ve always wondered if I had been born little later and grew up with the mid to late 90s teams if I would be this rabid about IU Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I just don’t feel like Justin Smith learned the system either, he looked lost and bored in most games sans a couple. Jake never got the time on the court to get into a groove. He was liked a caged animal every time he was let out. He needed time to settle in and never got it. And in regards to Phinisee learning the system, maybe, but I would also expect the basketball IQ of our starting point guard to be a little higher than most Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

MikeRoberts replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He was a freshmen and “the system” according to Archie takes years to learn. I’ve watched every game and I still don’t have a clue what our system is and I would assume most of the players don’t yet either otherwise we wouldn’t be and NIT team or worse both years Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

He’s done well there so far. I’d say 2-0 in favor of Holtman thus far. If we look back in 18 years and Archie is 18-2 in terms of our success I will be thrilled. I’m in his corner but not entirely sold. Biggest issues I’ve had is that he didn’t bring in any grad transfers or juco guys in year 1 or realistically year 2 to give us the old that many believe is a key to success. Instead he brought in a ton of freshmen, of which 1 has already transferred, another looked highly questionable as to whether he can produce at this level and not his fault but a third that didn’t play a minute. We should have been a tourney team, likely one good player/experienced leader away from doing that and he could have solved for that but didn’t. Latest concerns are that we needed a shooter in this class and didn’t get one. He also saw how injuries can set a team back yet he left two scholarships open even when we still have a player on the team that may not be able to suit up, leaving us with little to no room for anything unfortunate to happen during the season. Soooo, I am far from confident Archie has it all figured out and that in time he will be what we all want, but he is doing some things right and that is recruiting who he believes are the best kids in our state and they are buying in. That is his one big success point for me, enough to be cautiously optimistic Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

It hasn’t worked for us yet, that’s for sure. But if we can all give it a little time I think this will work out great for us. Its just hard to be patient when we look around at some of our rivals and seeing them having success and we arent Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I have no idea. I’m a big fan of Galloway and could be a huge fan of Leal too. My favorite player of all time is Calbert cheaney but Fife and Moye are close second and third. Point I’m making is that I have a huge respect for toughness/grit/effort and I am confident Galloway has that. There are other important roles to be played too and Leal could fill one of those. The other point I was initially making is that there are probably 10 kids from the state of Indiana that IU would/could consider recruiting and some of those might end up being all-conference in the big ten and others may never play an important role on a D-1 team. It’s really hard to know who is who and getting the right ones and avoiding the misses. I think Archie has gotten a few winners and maybe a few duds too. Time will tell on those but I am not certain every kid he has gotten from Indiana is who we need. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

As long as the best players are playing and there aren’t politics in play then it is hard to argue. Train hard, get better and warm playing time. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
