He is not. It’s that Sean Miller isn’t a good coach that I find fault in, not his recruiting. To me he is a recruiter and negotiator, he isn’t a coach. Given the loads of talent he has on his roster I don’t see them overachieving, really ever. He is essentially a world wide Wes but just happens to also sit on the bench. Some of that was the students being gone, another part of that is people like me refusing to drive 5 hours to Bloomington and spending $500 and my weekend to watch what we know will be grueling to watch basketball. I haven’t seen anyone call for a mid-season change but if the administration isn’t looking for the next basketball coach they aren’t doing their jobs. That has to be a discussion that is happening behind the scenes. If this coach doesn’t make the tourney of 68 in year 3 after missing it in year 1 and 2 they have to be lining up buyout options and new coach options. 68 teams, that is a huge number of teams and we are nearing 3 years, really 5 in a row of not being a top 68 team. Money is only relevant if we use it to get a top coach. In this case we didn’t. We could pay a high school coach top ten money but that doesn’t mean he is worth it nor will perform like it. We overpaid, paid a guy that wasn’t ready and are now on the hook for another $10mm to him, kudos to him. I wish I could be average at my job and take in $20mm Identify the 3 guys you want and pay them whatever it takes. The issue is lack of player evaluation, lack of player development and lack of motivation, not that he isn’t encouraged to cheat by the administration. The best two teams in college basketball the past 5 years are Villanova and Virginia... they aren’t stacked with suitcase money 1 and dones. This is on Archie and his staff. The administration isn’t on the recruiting trail, isn’t running practices, isn’t setting line ups and substitutions, isn’t coaching on the sidelines and drawing up plays or the lack there of Edit: And for the record, I do think our facility upgrades were cheap and lazy and puts us middle of the pack vs in front a focal point for recruiting. I am the one that complained about the the cheap finishes that has been mocked by a few for years but not one of them has said they like those cheap finishes - easier to poke fun. Well, this hasn’t been fun and while the administration hasn’t done Archie any favors, they aren’t the ones leading this basketball program on a daily basis. Our facilities are now fine, not great. Our recruiting budget is tops in the bigten. Our fan support and attendance is nuts given how bad we are, we have history whether recruits care or not, we’re on television a ton, we pay our coach top ten money, we live in a basketball rich state etc etc, There is no reason for us to get embarrassed game after game, year after year and sit at home during the tourney more often than not Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
