Thus why I wouldn’t be a fan of going after Stevens again. He wasn’t in the college game long, jumped at his first chance to leave and then got out of coaching altogether.

This will be interesting. If Indiana is sputtering and Michigan is rolling coming into this game the chatter will be much louder not just about Woody being fired but about IU needing to specifically pursue May. if that comes to fruition, I could see Woody playing hooky that day

I think he knows that it’s all about winning. He can decline podcasts, interviews, not show up for the other sports teams games, decline pep talk requests, not show up for all hands meetings etc etc. If he wins people won’t care. He just hasn’t figured out how to coach yet which is important to winning

He did have it hard but he also brought some of it on himself. As others noted he was out of his comfort zone being the head coach of a school like Indiana. He was whiny him screwing up the oden/conley recruitment was one of many blunders that drove a lot of the fan criticism

Thank you for clarifying your stance as many here look to you for tea leaves. I think some have taken things much further and stating that he is gone regardless and I don’t believe that to be true and from what I am reading here, you don’t either. From what I was told, Woodson doesn’t want to leave, that doesn’t mean he won’t be asked to, but any thoughts of him graciously retiring are unlikely. If he can get this team to the tournament and let’s say, win one game, that makes things very difficult for anyone wanting him gone. is making the tourney and a round of 32 what we hoped for? No, but given Indiana’s performance over the last 20+ years, that is sadly one of our better seasons. So why fire him then if we could have done it when he was coming off of a pretty lousy season?

There is little high school recruiting being done and it’s been that way. Your point about coaching into the final 2 years of a contract is valid but was WAY more valid before NIl/Transfer Portal. Anyone can assemble a team in weeks now. similarly, I would ask, how many schools can their coach after making the tournament? There have been a few but it is very rare.

I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone that is bullish on him being retained no matter what, but there are people that are overly confident he is gone no matter what, stating absolutes. to me, that is an important point of clarification. I as well as others have stated that him making the tournament COULD be enough to bring him back.

I think some including me don’t look at teams in terms of “quads”. None of those teams are that good in my opinion

Outside of the specific players you mentioned in this cycle, all of this was evident before they retained him for another year, gave him a raise and more resources. fans wanted him gone last year and his lack of recruiting high school kids was evident, his archaic style of play was on display. the only difference MIGHT be is that he improves his record YOY and makes the tournament. it is incredibly uncommon to fire a coach that makes the tournament and IU has never proven themselves to be aggressive in these manners like a UK.

I’m not going to ask you pick our wins and losses but as you noted, the team is plenty talented it’s just a matter of whether they show and play with E&E. i believe you are still high on Woodson but having your team play consistently with E&E is table stakes and on the coach in terms of roster assembly and in season demanding that of them, no?
