  1. Let’s say not on the train, or even at the station...lol but what do they know!
  2. FWIW, Another site I frequent had a VERY reliable person post that Indiana did not reach out to Holtman, nor did they offer him any deal. “An agent told a couple of national guys this story and it quite simply was not true”
  3. Losing 4 out of 5 starters from a team that finished 10th in the Big Ten and only won 12 games may not be a bad thing. Don't get me wrong, I like them all as players, maybe not necessarily starters on a big ten team that competes for titles.
  4. Sorry if this was posted earlier! Is it next season yet!? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  6. First practice for the new head basketball coach. Practice was not going well. We were doing the famed shell drill. Ball got tipped to him, he proceeded to grab the ball and punt it into the upper level of our gym. He then told us to run until he got the ball back. Come to find out, it got stuck in the top of a set of folded up bleachers. Had to get a janitor to pull the bleachers out so he could get the ball. By the time he got back with it, 4 kids had puked and practice time was over. Took about 25 minutes total.
  7. Sure we have some horrendous losses at this point, however, there are some chances to pick up some good wins as the big ten season rolls along. Of course, do I think we will win those games? At this point, no. Dakich said last night this team could beat any team anywhere, he failed to mention that this team can also lose to any team, anywhere.
  8. The point of this was to see what others thought about the heart and competitiveness of the teams the last 5 years or so as compared to teams from '02 and earlier. I'm young, I don't know what it was like to watch the Knight era teams. Were they fun to watch? Were there times you questioned heart or effort? I understand heart and effort don't win games, but sometimes, in some cases, I'd rather watch those early Crean teams fight and scratch and battle for 40 minutes and lose by 20 than watch this year's team beat Austin Peay by 40. 9. Excellent point. I think some may have underestimated the importance of Yogi not just as a leader and scorer but as a facilitator. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  10. There are some that play hard consistently, I can't argue that. I will say this, in reference to the teams I mentioned earlier. Going back and watching highlights or old games. How many players like TB do you see? Complaining nearly every possession, gets one layup with a foul and pounds his chest. I've watched the IU v Duke 2002 game so many times on YouTube it's unreal. When JJ hit some of his great shots during the final stretch of the game. Watch his reaction, he turns around and runs to get back and get a stop. I know it's old fashioned and not "cool" anymore but I wish we had a defensive stopper. Not one person on this roster I would bet on to get a big time stop when necessary. 11. Some would consider that "sad" lol that we consider those "the days" I wish I'd been around during the real glory days. Watching some of those teams would probably make me more upset with today's team. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  12. I also enjoyed watching them, look at the bulk of that list though. Take out Yogi, TB, Troy, Rojo and look what you're left with. Tough as nails, under the radar guys. How many can you say we have on this years roster? McRoberts? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  13. Great point. AJ is one of my all time favorites too. DJ White played with an unbelievable passion for Indiana. That '02 team was full of tough gritty guys. Tom Coverdale an example. Not flashy, not a human highlight reel. Just got it done when it needed to be done. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  14. I agree with both of you, would like some perspective from the more seasoned IU fans out there. What are your thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  15. Maybe that's the issue, he's going after big time recruits to make it look good, maybe we should get more guys like Hulls, Watford, Verdell. 4 year guys wanting to succeed for one another and play FOR IU Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  16. My thoughts exactly. Guys like Hulls exemplify what playing FOR Indiana means. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  17. Please bear with me, this is my first New Topic post since becoming a member of this site. (Take it easy on me) I have watched IU basketball, like many of you, since I was just a little boy growing up in southern Indiana. I played my fair share of basketball, and even played against and cheered against Cody Zeller while he was at Washington. My earliest and most fond memory was back in 2002, when IU shocked the college basketball world by upsetting Duke. I was 10 years old at the time. That memory should let most of you know I did not live in the "golden years" of IU basketball. That was the last, and only, time the Hoosiers have made it to the final four and championship game, IN MY LIFE. I have enjoyed watching over the last 5 years or so as we went to sweet 16's and underachieved according to IU basketball standards. However, after watching the last few games I have a few comments to make based on what I've seen and can remember from my young life of IU basketball. I got much more enjoyment out of watching players like Hulls, Watford, Jones III, Pritchard, and Elston over the likes of Troy, Thomas, James, and Noah. I enjoy watching a group of guys go out AS A TEAM and fight for 40 minutes and maybe get beat by 20-30, than to watch a bunch of individuals who don't take pride in playing defense. I understand, wins make things easier on everyone and that is the standard that has been set by those who have come before the current players, back when I was not around. However, I will say it again, I would rather watch the teams that I don't have to constantly question their heart, their effort, and their dedication to their teammates and the program, to INDIANA UNIVERSITY. Not just the dedication to themselves and looking to raise individual draft stock. Sorry for the lengthy post, please, share your thoughts and remember, go easy on me! 18. McHale not being considered to replace Vogel, Bird quoted saying "I respect him too much to work for me"
  19. Typical fan reaction going here. When we lose, it's Crean's fault. When we win, it's because the players played great and shot well, and no because Crean or any of the other coaches had anything to do with it. Crean or any other coaches, can't shoot and make the shots for the players, Crean, or any other coaches, also can't play defense or contest shots for the players. UNC was beating anyone tonight (maybe even some bottom NBA teams) I agree Crean has underperformed SOME. But I also have not seen anyone mention we made a late season run and won 2 tourney games without, arguably, our second best scorer and best on ball defender. First reactions after a loss and realizing the season is over are always harsh. But let's remember the coaching job Crean turned out after Maui and at Duke when people were ready to fire him on the spot. He responded to adversity just like the players did. Give credit where credit is due and understand what kind of coaching job we saw over the course of the entire season, and not just the last 3 weeks or so.
  20. I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, could crowd in Philly be pro-IU? With playing the second game crowd will be more filled in and first game pits an Indiana school (ND) against a Big Ten team (WISC). Just thinking maybe they would root for their state/conference team vs an ACC team. Thoughts?
  21. I agree came out tight and nervous and couldn't get any shots to fall from the outside which is our game plan.  This was my first time seeing a public school vs private school 3A game in person and it just makes me believe more that these private schools need their own class.  How are rural southern indiana school expected to compete with Indy private schools that can "recruit" kids to their program? doesn't seem fair in my opinion, oh well, good luck to Barr-Reeve!
  22. I am here!!!! What a weekend! Southport here we come! I hope anyone in the area this Saturday comes out to watch, this team is the epitome of southern Indiana basketball! Go Alices!
  23. Not a problem! Lots of great teams in the Southern part of the state.  Just looked and Lincoln now has 71 sectional championships and are the number two school in terms of total sectional titles only behind Kokomo with 74. I believe Lincoln won something like 21 straight at one point.  That was way before I was born but a LONG tradition of winning!
  24. Don't forget the Vincennes Lincoln Alices! One of the top schools in all of the STATE for most sectional titles! Easier Washington Sectional without a Zeller running out there!
  25. I can see Priller and April, that was not the hard part in my opinion.  The hard part is finding that third one...I think Davis comes back, I do not think the NBA is a real option for anyone outside of Yogi (which i still do not see happening), the final option is another transfer.   Here is another question, is it possible for Z's scholarship to be dropped and make him a walk on? I've never heard of that happening and no clue if it is even legal, just throwing stuff out there for discussion.
