This happened in Mike Davis's last year and the team rattled off five straight wins. It was kind of fun. I doubt the basketball gods would be that kind to us again.

I used to go on Illinois boards back when the Gordon thing went down and they couldn't stop talking about us. I noticed they always referred to Iowa as UFI (University of freaking Iowa) because they were still pissed about this incident. If Pearl coached here, he'd get the Kelvin Sampson treatment whenever we play at Illinois...and I'd say bring it.

Saw a story in my local newspaper this morning saying Zach Edey won't be back next season. Best news I've read in a while.

There's only one coach who everyone would agree on, and he's already turned us down once and will likely never coach college basketball again.

I've wondered if a new coach could potentially get him back here as an assistant, or if that bridge has been burned. Given his stance on NIL, I wouldn't want him handling any recruiting tasks, but maybe just have him focus on defense and player development. We had a top 25 Kenpom defense the year he was here, last year it slowly got worse and by the end of the season we were back to scrambling around and leaving people open just like we did before.

When Crean was in his final days, there was all this talk about a "soft landing," that he was actively working with the administration to get his next job lined up so he could smoothly transition without a ton of bad PR. I thought it was BS at the time and I was right; nobody ever does that. He got fired and proceeded to not coach for a year, but people actually believed it.

Does he really want him to be the coach "so bad"? I have no doubt he supports him and has vouched for him, but I think the level of his affection for Woodson is a narrative spawned by this thread.

I don't know, he just sounds beaten right now. I've talked with high school coaches who were in the death throes of their coaching gigs and they all sounded just like he does now. Kind of all over the place, rambling, speaking in platitudes, etc.

Both feet on the line, exactly where Woodson wants everyone shooting it.

The Internet isn't always right, but I read that this was only the second time Iowa trailed at the half in a game this year.

Assuming we don't choke in our Friday BTT game, we're probably getting a rubber match with Iowa on Saturday. I'd love to win that one, but with the game in Minnesota it's probably going to be like an Iowa home game.

I say this as someone who dreams of Stevens coaching here: Butler's second Final Four team doesn't get beyond the second round without coaching malpractice from Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon. Pitt made a tie breaking free throw with 1 second left, he inexplicably had his players on the line going for an offensive rebound on the second shot that missed, they get called for a foul, Butler makes two free throws with a fraction of a second left and wins by one. It's why we shouldn't put too much stock into postseason results, but what the coach is doing to get them there.

I figured it was going to take a B-/C+ type of game from her for us to win, but I'll gladly take a C- instead.

Not getting great vibes about where this one is headed.

Need to get the offense going. A long scoring drought against a team this good is a death wish.

They're having preliminary talks. It doesn't mean he'll go there. I expect OSU has probably reached out to several coaches by now. May just happens to be one of them.

This. We're not getting a proven P5 coach for these reasons. Indiana, to us, is a special place because we're Indiana fans. Indiana, to non-IU fans, is just another basketball program. It's a lateral move for most P5 jobs these days.

Won't happen. Didn't happen with Crean, didn't happen with Miller, won't happen this time. I never realized how fortunate we were that the Davis era ended the way it did.

When national media guys have endorsed moving on from you, you're done. Vitale is the ultimate bootlicker for college basketball coaches. Even the ones who acted like we gave Crean and Miller a raw deal are seeing the light on this one.
