  1. He doesn’t play QB for MSU. He has played wildcat QB from time to time but out of hs we recruited him as a QB but if that didn’t work backup was a WR or RB. MSU uses him primarily as a 3rd down back and pass block guy this season. He’s been a RB/slot guy this season and last.
  2. Interesting things here possibly. I’d love to see what develops here. MSU beat writer was on big ten channel on Sirius. Cameron Heyward a rb/slot kid just announced his transfer from MSU. The beat writer also mentioned that there were rumblings that Ladarius is thinking about or was thinking about transferring.
  3. But then again there’s a cool story about how when he told coach Allen he wanted to commit, he brought up the amount of years it’s been since a bowl, since a winning season, and winning a bowl...etc....he supposedly listed all those numbers and said coach I’m coming here to change those.
  4. Lol I get that! And many recruiting sites and even IU beat writers have mentioned that if he was 6’ and still weighed what he does he would have been a 5*. Size is what held his rating to a high 3* and low 4* on most sites.
  5. Fun fact. Stewart had over 100 yards against other dbs and leads big ten in yards. Can we just start him already. I’ll be happy to give him a few mistakes here and there but at least he plays hard. Our touted DBs mainly upperclassmen have let us down. Let the kid ball. It’s in his veins with his brothers and cousin Lamar Jackson. Kid might be small....too bad he didn’t get his brothers size. Credit @PFF_Aaron on twitter
  6. Alante is a special kind of player. Reminds me of whop. Heard his name a couple of weeks back....then saw we offered when it was retweeted in my thread. From his film you see great athleticism and a good motor. Great speed and change of direction. Will play everywhere on the offensive side of the ball and return game. Is in prep school. Was a Texas tech commit, didn’t end up qualifying because of a grade or testing of some sort. He should be fine due to prep school and he’s at one of the top prep schools. Look for the Hoosiers to be towards the top of his list when he gets close to giving his verbal. He’s from Chicago so that should help. https://247sports.com/player/alante-brown-46041257/
  7. Kids been a top priority since the summer months. Kid has the length this staff likes. Great athleticism. Reminds me of a Bedford. Maybe not as ready as we saw from Bedford on Saturday, but can develop to become a book end at tackle. Lots to like from his tape. If we land him it will be nice to see Bedford and him playing together unless rafferty gets a hold on that position, but I’d like to see the flexibility to moving raferty to guard, just to see him get playing time. I’ve heard great things about him. Anyways back to James, will be a battle to get his verbal....but we’ve seen this staff battle some tough schools. https://247sports.com/player/james-pogorelc-46083640/
  8. Kid picked up an offer a while back and I thought I added him. Kid is a playmaker and has top talent speed. Reads the field well and plays bigger than his size that’s indicated. IU is sitting towards the top with him. Would be another great get for this staff. https://247sports.com/player/jontavis-robertson-46058571/
  9. We are still working hard to get him to flip, will be hard...but this was a torn decision. Family wanted him at IU and to stay in state and play for Tom Allen, but obviously it’s hard to pass up a program that turns out good DLine. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  10. There seems to be some pick up in his recruitment from our end, guess the coaches liked what they saw in person....I’d expect him to move inside tho...for me he’s not athletic enough to move laterally as a tackle. Even tho his rating isn’t what most would like....he seems to have a mean streak when he wants and dominates when he plays.
  11. So I haven’t touched on recruiting that much mainly because it’s been dead period and that just ended recently. Coaches will be going back out this week, per toms press conference today....where idk im sure we will see later this week. On Charlie it looks like he is a preferred walk on priority and will have the opportunity to earn a scholly should he decide to enroll at IU. Scholly would come sooner rather than later once he’s on campus. So good for him he’d be a terrific add and get by this staff. It’s basically between us TN, IN state, and Michigan.
  12. Then the argument of why did we do so many east and west throws, because those were basically run plays even tho they were passes. It allowed slots or RBs to get out and turn upfield which most of those gains turned in to gains that would be equal to runs. Yes I’m still scratching my head at the three straight inside tackle runs....not disagreeing there but the arguments on play calls like screen passes were designed to be like runs....to get you some yards on early downs....if we went over the top or deep throws every negative Nancy on here would have been like why are we throwing downfield every play.....why are we setting ourselves up for a 3rd and long every drive....well those screen passes setup 3rd and shorts and we ran several times to get a first down and sustain a drive....or we hit a hitch or short crossing pattern to get the first when they thought we would run.....would I have liked to see more of an RPO instead of 3 straight inside runs heck yeah....but the only time we saw them allow Penix to run was on that bootleg where he ran for a TD. I feel like the game plan was to setup as an option but no matter what we were going to limit hits he took. That’s why there were so many east and west throws throughout the game.
  13. So you’re just choosing to ignore the main factor in who has built this team and recruited the players they have right now....and the talent on the back end of the seniority levels....got it. I wasn’t purely referring to you and not recognizing positives....I’m referring to the people you knew this would incite or bring out of the wood works to support your Max Kellerman take. I saw your comments.... So rookie mistakes can’t happen. Got it....am I perplexed by those calls just as you were yes, but to call for his head? I don’t get it....oh and I believe he’s said deboer has the final say in the offense....well as you guessed it he’s the offensive mind and Allen basically has said that’s his scheme he adds input, but deboer has final say....so I guess we should call for head instead. The one person who hasn’t really shined in this whole scenario is the DC hire. The scheme was not run correctly many times on 3rd and Longs, and Allen let him hear it....too many times I see oh he’s a cheerleader....well maybe he’s still developing because I though Allen was going to kill Womack right there on the 40 yard line when he was up in his face. Yeah it’s allens team, but he’s handed over play calling like we wanted him to and now the same people are mad....we don’t want a conservative offense but in certain situations you have to be....was that situation a good spot...probably not....then I’ve seen we can’t have an explosive offense because that screws our defense....so what do you want? A whole new staff once again? You want 4years of rebuilding? You want recruits to leave? Because with the free market out there that will for sure happen, and where was this outrage when Wilson got into tight situations and switched up his play calling? His whole offense shrunk when it came down to the end of the game. Not to mention where was the outrage with a Wilson and all of his mistakes and blown finishes? If you’re gonna call it one way....call it the other. Because to me it seems like you’re in a very skinny short sighted tunnel. I’m referring to tunnel vision.
  14. Not sure if sarcasm or not lol. But either way thanks. I try. Even tho I’m millennial I’ve Been invested since 2004. I’m not satisfied with all these moral victories but if some people can’t acknowledge what basically this staff has been saying about the youth and talent this staff has built....then you’re ignorant. If you’re just going to poo poo everywhere and not offer any talking points....then I’ll wake up on the wrong side of the bed. It’s okay to point out negatives, but at least make an effort to point out positives when there were a ton on Saturday. Yeah we lost. From what I saw everyone who commented negatively so far...thought we were going to lose....so what are you exactly mad about?
  15. No your takes just offer no substance with them. They are my feelings are hurt....Colin Cowherd esq takes. So by your takes you had us at 5-0 at the end of September? Dang I’d be mad too....how much money you have on that bet? Pretty optimistic. We are 3-2 where we all thought we’d be. 4-1 if we don’t make some mistakes. But we are where we thought we’d be. So what exactly do you want? Urban? Because he ain’t coming.....les miles? I’ll pass.... so what is it did allen not offer your son or you a scholly? And for the people in here saying he hasn’t won against the top 25 Kevin Wilson didn’t do crap against the top 25 either. He went 2-16 if I can count....which in all honesty 16 could be wrong +-1or2 games.....but one of those wins was against MSU and I can remember people writing that game off as a nice win....because that was the year MSU went 3-9, and amazing 1-8 in the big ten... so since people seem to nitpick at Allen....I will. Wilson went 1-16. So where’s this amazing coach we used to have? Oh yeah that’s right he won the games he was supposed to and had 1 upset against Missouri. Since ya know people don’t count that MSU upset.....and those people typically float in your boat.
  16. No there’s no rules on saying you have to release depth or injury chart
  17. No there’s no rules on saying you have to release depth or injury chart
  18. Today during interview it was said he and Peyton shared equal reps. He threw some.
  19. No worries the quote me was more of a sarcastic tone lol to add some jest into the convo lol. I should have made that more apparent that’s on me. I’m just coming from a place of people and not you obviously don’t understand why or how he was named QB1. To your point, you are correct in there’s nothing wrong with saying he’s unproven against legit teams, but to also cherry pick the one legit team he faced and was thrown in when the offense was sputtering and trying to catch rhythm is somewhat not apples to apples. Also, going off stats yeah he stunk....but also he started off bad with several incompletions and I believe several were dropped by the WRs and then he came on not passing but the game rhythm was coming to him and offense seemed to be clicking...not to mention the crowd all around me was more into the game and had more belief that we had a chance with him....then of course we all know what happened next....ballon popped. All I know is that he was about to take over had he not gotten hurt and by take over I mean starting role....that’s from people close to the program. The coaches were ready to bet it all on Penix. They were ready for him to take full reps and full games over. I get how some people are not convinced yet of his stats.....okay that’s fine, but to the people who don’t care to acknowledge the limitations of what Ramsey can and cannot do.....it’s ignorant and that’s what I’m trying to argue and I should probably stop because I guess I need to argue stats more. It’s become more apparent that it was a mixture of both playbook and ability...again this is not necessarily for you, but others as you acknowledge what he can be....just look at how many times we tested down field we can look at crap teams vs crap teams.....bsu shots down the field thrown in stride completed for a TD and dropped what should have been a TD......UConn tests deep ball with Ramsey, completed but his receiver had to completely stop his route....drive ends in a field goal....I know I’m cherry picking but to the ones who don’t understand why or how this decision was made.....so I’m sorry for taking my frustration and sarcasm out on you lol more of caught in the crossfire thing. Just for the record do I think Penix gives us the win against osu....lol no, but it’s baptism by fire like Caleb Jones had....I wish he could have played for experience, do I think he helps us against MSU given he plays, yes....we saw what MSU did against us last year......loaded the box and safeties played very shallow.....I think safeties and dbs can crowd receivers if Penix is QB. Does it help with run....that’s still TBD....however on that note I’d rather see Bedford play over love....love doesn’t have enough lower body strength to protect either QB. Here’s to hoping we see Penix against a superior opponent
  20. Quote me if you want to dispute what I’ve said, I’m trying to have a conversation yet your points are more accurate and have more standing? Nobody’s does this is a message board but you’re choosing to just blatantly ignore what’s been said and seen by people who cover IU sports or have contacts and relatives who have been to practices. Neither of you have attempted to have a conversation with anyone who are on the other side of the aisle on this. You dismiss what anyone’s saying. I’ve at least read and talked about yours guys points. And Because that’s why he was given the job. He has a faster release and can throw a rope down the field that allows players to run in stride to catch it and run. Why is that so hard to just understand, there’s an ability difference. We aren’t talking about stats. Ramsey has Far more starts for stats reference. So there he wins out you win the argument. Screw ability and screw the possibility of change. You refer to Penix last season, who played meaningful minutes against PSU. Who wouldn’t have a hesitant stat line in that first real challenge? Then he gets his first start as a RS frosh.....nobody saying he’s Trevor Lawrence And should be Peyton Manning, but what he can do from an ability standpoint out weighs what you have in Ramsey. Penix is starting his first full season of college football. There’s bound to be hiccups and learning curves. He also makes better reads on rpos. On that aspect of the game in the games against crappy opponents, your guys words....and criteria for judging....Ramsey has been awful in reading crashing ends and when to keep the ball....he could have had untouched runs, but gave it to the RBs where the end was crashing at....Penix in his QB keeps and reads....he made the right reads and gained positive yards. Sorry he performed better in fall camp and everyone saw the same thing. The decision was made middle of camp a week before bsu game prep week. And CTA said it the best it’s not what he can do or did but what he (and the staff) believe he can do and become. Heck my gf who doesn’t even follow IU football that close and wouldn’t know how to judge a QB notices the difference in how the ball gets to WRs and how he can read an RPO.....
  21. Lol okay. Well then let’s take playmakers out of my sentence. We will replace it with wide receivers who can be playmakers if they are allowed to move after they catch.... play types let’s go with bubble screens....since I’m rewatching the games just to have points that will I guess give you the time of day to address since you can’t address anything that’s part of being a QB...timing and getting balls in windows to allow YAC which is a football term....yards after catch...which WRs can get if the ball is placed correctly and they don’t have to adjust to slower balls or underthrown balls. And it’s not every throw allows guys to make plays, because teams will have good coverage, but with Penix if a WR can get free, that much more of velocity can be the difference in a 7 yard gain into a 14-20 yard gain, which moves the ball and keeps the defense off the field. So let’s just go to screen passes because that’s a pretty easy throw, if you watch Penix throw his screen or bubble passes....his ball typically arrives on time, which allows a WR to get his shoulders up field square with the line of scrimmage so he can make a move....this also allows the blocking WR to not have to hold his block on the CB as long or this doesn’t allow the other DB or LB to get over to the flats and destroy our WR. Ramsey doesn’t have the velocity on most of his bubbles to where it allows the WRs to turn up field.....WRs have to hold their blocks longer. Im watching the ball state game currently and fast forwarding to the offensive plays......to your argument that with Penix we are going way to fast. The first drive was fast on getting the snap off, probably a start of the game tempo, get the offense going, then we settled in to what deboer typically does. We get the snap off between 10-18 secs left on the clock....I’ve only seen a few get to single digits....due to changes when the defense switches up...so the thought process that this is a Kevin Wilson up tempo Offense....not sure where you’re getting that. Part of the ball state issues with short drives were in part to not having a run offense, when we could chip away at the down and distance....our drives were sustained and weren’t quick turnarounds. Kevin Wilson’s offense typically called the snap within 10-15 seconds which was too fast for a lot of our defenses he had.....when Allen became DC I believe there was a convo to hold the ball longer and we started to see snaps around where we are at today. Deboer hasn’t really ever ran a hurry up and snap offense in his tenured yes they are west coast/pistol, no huddle, but a lot of offenses are that way...they lineup and see what the defense setups in....then there are checks of need be. I’ll try to dictate my points to being up to you’re standards for a conversation. I didn’t realize playmakers was such a deal breaker. I know I’m being petty, but that’s in part to your response or lack thereof response to valid points....not because I said them, but because this is what is looked at when determining starting QBs, by the coaches and by people who have been to practices and have watched these two QBs side by side and play after play have also seen what and why the coaches made this decision, it’s a night and day difference when it comes to arm strength and timing on throws to allow them to catch and run....this Can you as a QB give your skill players time to make people miss and or break tackles.....it’s hard to do that when DBs are able to adjust and catch up when the ball is floating in the air. Has Ramsey had some good throws yes, are They floaters and late to spots on the field yes, again nobody is saying he’s a god awful player who never should see the field ever again....no....I’m not saying that and the reasonable people who are making valid points which you are simply refusing to talk about.....they aren’t saying any of these things. So so I guess my points don’t fit your agenda. I’m all for having a conversation and can see what side you are on and the points you have laid out, I’m not saying you’re wrong or have invalid points, but mines invalid because we don’t have playmakers.....haha okay you win man......but it’s not a conversation when you refuse to listen to others points when they are just as valid as yours.
  22. We were on the same thought train this morning. Mine just took longer to type during this Monday morning Webex meeting
  23. Okay....so again idk why I have to repeat myself....... throw out all past and present stats because if that were the case, the coaches would have gone with Ramsey and not Penix. Ramsey- he can throw decent balls. Can throw some deep balls. He is a threat running the ball, when he makes the right read. He has troubles making right reads on most read options. Playbook is fitted to him and limited to crossing patters and screens. I’ve never seen IUs playbook, but when you’ve played college ball....which I have and as a WR, Ramsey’s playbook is very limited. I’m not attacking him as a human. I’m stating what factors play into this. I’m glad he is our backup and I’m happy he’s stepped back to his role as a starter for now. Penix- arm strength is well above average. Again this is the velocity and pace he gets the call to his WRs. In the games against crap teams....he actually made correct read options and didn’t get his RB killed. Penix allows the receivers to do what they do and that’s catch then run. This reason is why he was named the starter and will be the starter when he’s healthy. He allows playmakers to make plays. Coaches even hinted to this in interviews during fall camp. Players have even alluded to this in their interviews. Im thinking coaches were ready to give Penix the reigns with the WRs that would be on the field this season and graduatin...with Penix you allow them to make plays down the field. This isn’t a completion percentage argument. This isn’t a interception argument. This is an ability base argument. This isn’t an agenda argument. This isn’t a personal attack. This is an argument based on attributes each player exhibits. This is an argument about the benefits of certain abilities.
