South End Zone Expansion/Stadium Renovation Thread
akhosrof replied to RBB89's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I heard a rumor the old South Endzone videoboard is being put in Kaufman Field. Anyone know if this is true? I feel Kaufman could really use it. -
How does Bryce Drew not have a candidate page? Glass said he'd personally interview anyone with ties to the state. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Exactly my point - which is why the question needs to be asked if Archie or Marshall are truly any better than Crean. If not, it makes no sense to make a move and set back the program five-ten years. May be better to wait another year to see if any of the younger coaching prospects emerge as clear heavyweights. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I think the topic title should be Archie or Gregg vs Crean. Guys like Donovan, Sean Miller and Tony Bennett are no brainer upgrades over Crean. But are any of the other realistic candidates any better than Crean? Sure I like Archie and Marshall a lot, but I'm skeptical whether they are true upgrades. I agree. Not to mention Crean might have the recruiting budget built into his current contract where he's still entitled to use that recruiting budget. And how confident are we in these insiders? Not doubting there's a meeting, but how do we know the meeting simply didn't agree on the buyout in the event Crean doesn't hit a certain goal (win the BTT or get to the second round in the NCAA tournament, for example)? I'm still not confident Crean is gone. Especially if we find a way to make the tournament. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Yeah I'm hesitant about KSU being involved as well. Their dream candidate is Brad Underwood. Most KSU fans wanted to get rid of Weber last year to get Underwood. I don't think going from Weber to Crean would be popular while Underwood is still at Oklahoma State... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

The 5 Biggest Recruiting Misses of the Tom Crean Era
akhosrof replied to AKHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think Bryant McIntosh the past couple seasons proved to be a big miss for us. Our season could have been a lot different if we had him at PG this year. -
Bumping this after tonight's win[emoji16] Mark Smith in attendance for the win. Bring in him and Tucker for a five man recruiting class. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
akhosrof replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Regarding the whole "reaching out" rumors everyone seems to spread... wouldn't that be a big risk to being discovered via the FOIA? When the Big XII was considering expansion, every correspondence between UC and the Big XII was made public through the FOIA, even correspondence that obviously appeared meant to be off the record.. I'm sure you could be careful to tip toe what falls within the law, but seems like it would be a risk. Surprised no one in the media has requested something (is that how FOIA even works?) (2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
akhosrof replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can't blame him, might as well swing for the fences. Win a couple B1G tournament games, land Romeo and that extension is as good as guaranteed! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I'm not thrilled about all the guys on my list. But they are all there because they are younger, with a good résumé, and have built their programs to either make their first serious runs this March, or make a run which serves as evidence to their body of work. Each I could see as being a fit for IU. I like Beard but I consider him a unique case given RMK. Beard isn't coming to IU because of RMK and I don't think he's quite there yet, regardless. Cooley is a Providence native and I don't think he's done enough yet. Enfield is another guy I should add to my list. The guy is a winner and he's built that USC team. Can he make a big step in the PAC 12 and NCAA tournaments? If so, that would prove as justification of his third year building the program and he should be considered. Jankovich is another winner. Weak conference and he's older, but I'm interested to see what he can do in the tournament. He has very strong assistant coaching experience. I hope SMU matches up against Cincy in the AAC conference finals. Jankovich might end up being a legitimate candidate for Mizzou or LSU. I don't care for Mack at all. Xavier has been a huge disappointment. Hopefully Butler dashes their tournament hopes this Sunday. Don't see a reason why IU would ever take Mack over Holtmann. L'Ville or UK maybe, but Mack shouldn't be a fit for us. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I hear ya definitely the funniest part. Also the most exiting IMO. I'm really looking forward to seeing how our "coaching candidates" do in the tournament. Especially Holtmann, who's just hitting his stride with Butler. I currently have Holtmann as my #3 behind Marshall and Miller. However, if Holtmann gets Butler to the Sweet 16 or further, I think he deserves to be our #1. Such a run would not be a fluke. It would follow the path of progression Holtmann has shown the past couple seasons. That team has been awesome this season. Collins, Marshall, Miller, Wojo, Holtmann, Prohm... lets see if any of these guys can put an exclamation point on their résumé! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

No argument from me. Marshall is my 1 and Archie is my 2 (I don't consider Donovan realistic). I'd be extremely happy with either. I don't know the exact numbers with strength of schedule for Marshall at WSU and Winthrop vs. what Crean had at Marquette, or what Archie has had at Dayton. I'll take your word for it. No way of knowing if Marshall would have had the same success in the A10, the old C-USA, or if Crean would have been successful in Marshall's situation. Each Marshall and Archie have their strengths and weaknesses. I see Marshall as a coach that's not going to get out-coached and will have his team ready to play night in and night out. He's a natural and has a commanding presence on the sideline. The question with him is how high is his ceiling, and can he recruit at a high enough level to compete for a national championship? Marshall has a high floor, he would have us in the top four in the B1G each year. But could he get us over the hump? I could see a Gary Williams-type career for him at Bloomington. I see Archie as having an extremely high ceiling. I think Marshall would have us up and running faster, but Archie has the higher ceiling and has not peaked. No doubt that Archie in time would become an elite recruiter at Indiana. Higher risk than Marshall, but the potential is to get us back on par with UNC, UK, Duke and Kansas. Either guy would bring better defense to B-town so I'd be happy with that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I don't see the comparison outside of the mid-major commonality and one Final Four. I look at conference records and how a coach has consistently performed against his peers. Crean had one conference regular season title at Marquette, one second place finish, and nothing else to write home about. No conference tournament championships. Marshall has dominated conference play at both Winthrop and WSU. Archie Miller and his inconsistent conference play is a more worrisome of a Crean comparison to me. Then throw in the defensive statistics and Marshall and Crean are different types of coaches. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Right, I think for guys like Wade and Jankovich, your point applies. But for guys like Holtmann, Prohm and Archie Miller, a deep tournament run is more of an exclamation point on their résumé than a fluke tournament run. On the flip side of that, if Sean Miller or Tony Bennett make a Final Four, would they really want to leave their current job? Outside of Donovan, Marshall is definitely my number one. He is a commanding presence as a head coach, and I don't think it would take him long at all to have us competing for championships. I believe he could have us competing for a B1G championship next year. Not sure you could say that about any of the other realistic candidates. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Any chance success in this year's tournament changes opinions on coaching candidate rankings? For example, say dark horse candidates like Tim Jankovich at SMU or Will Wade at VCU make an Elite 8? Does that push guys like them into consideration? If someone like Steve Prohm takes Iowa State to the Elite 8, does that sky rocket him to the top of the list? Or if Holtmann takes Butler to a Sweet 16 or Elite 8, I think that should solidify him as our top candidate. Same with Archie Miller at Dayton. What does another Final Four or Elite 8 for Gregg Marshall do in our consideration? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
akhosrof replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Would the Thunder go after Blake Griffin in the offseason? I know nothing about the NBA salary cap, but I know Griffin is a free agent and is from OKC. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

At what cost though? That athletic department sold their morals to the devil for success and to ultimately get into the ACC. They are successful no doubt, but Jurich, Pitino and Petrino are not of the best character. I understand your point but L'Ville is not the model we want to take after Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Adding to this, I know Crean backed off of Paul Scruggs once he transferred to Prolific Prep. Crean has pretty much steered clear of those types of schools. Not sure if Glass would want to hire a coach who's connected to that sort of recruiting. I don't know anything about Mack. I'm just guessing... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

(2019) WR David Bell to Purdue
akhosrof replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
55th player in the nation according to 247 for 2019. Already has a ND offer and OSU is interested. All the big sharks will be in on this one. Would be a program changing recruit for us and a huge statement for CTA. CTA said he was going to go aggressively after the top instate talent. Glad to see we are trying here. Heard got Treadwell out of Chicago. Let's Coach Heard go to work! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

A sleeper name if you're looking for a Mark White-type hire: Ben Jacobson of Northern Iowa. Extremely sharp guy. Reading on Jacobson: https://www.google.com/amp/www.blackheartgoldpants.com/platform/amp/2010/3/23/1386061/the-short-list-ben-jacobson?client=safari http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/northern-iowa/uni-panthers/2016/03/17/northern-iowa-ben-jacobson-texas-longhorns-shaka-smart-ncaa-tournament-basketball/81916942/ Was a finalist for the TAMU job when they replaced Turgeon. Jacobson has since signed an extension where I believe he has a buyout close to $3M. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
