Read what he’s said, as @NashvilleHoosier has mentioned he’s painted himself as just the messenger for what people are saying. If he’s wrong, he’ll say it was a shock, it was played close, etc.

If the 3 pm thing has legs it was never going to be a presser. Maybe an announcement. If it’s true and I had to guess it might be an agreed-upon time for either side to filter anything out to media sources off the record.

Tend to agree the C’s wouldn’t want him to finish the year if he’d agreed to another job. All signs indicate his superiors there love him and would love to keep him. That also makes me think they’d want an amicable exit for everyone’s sake, so maybe there’s a “need a new voice” parting of ways and he takes the IU job. Thunder did something similar for Billy Donovan after last season. They love him but figured they were going to tank for a bit and his contract was up. They let him go but everyone was on good terms. IIRC he and Sam Presti reminisced over drinks in Presti’s office.

No inside knowledge here but probably some combo of: -leaving C’s as well as he can -relocating mid-pandemic with family -buying/selling houses -kids in new schools after finishing this year -wrapping up other personal/social responsibilities
