Agreed. Was it the Ewing draft that started the BS?

Transfer Portal w/IU Interest

He really should have. And I think he realized too late but we had no BIG depth which handcuffed him. Hence the different strategy this time around. Not adding an extra capable big last season was a Crime against Humanity. -

This could be close. My problem with the roster is I don’t LOVE Mustaf. So 28 minutes there is big. Nothing is changing that. I also wonder strongly about Harris. Major wildcard. 22 minutes there. I think Moody can push these 2. But I don’t think Karvala or Manhertz can. This the the crux of where my concerns lie. If Mustaf and Harris both end up being good/great everything settles in. Then if we run the 2 big lineup, which seems like our best lineup shooting becomes a weakness. I guess it is regardless. So, here’s where you trust to coach to have it all figured out but DeVries doesn’t give me those vibes. -

It’s funny because the argument last summer was it’s so cheap to keep guys on the roster. Now they are getting massive retention bumps. I do admit it’s generally cheaper to keep a player, but if that player and their camp is about money it’s going to end being a number in the similar ballpark. And that was my stance last year. And that assumes the player is happy with things. The real advantage is the advanced scout. You know exactly what your getting from said player when they’ve been on your team. No question marks. But financially it’s not the savings many project. I don’t know what Sisley. My guess is he got 300 or so last year. My guess is a million would be an appropriately huge bump. He’s a borderline starter but not a guaranteed starter. Shows potential but didn’t get the chances to demonstrate. He’s the perfect keep candidate player because the staff knows all. -

Have to set the bar low enough so we can maybe surpass it. There’s Always a reason we won’t be that good and usually most excuses are based off previous seasons failures. A convenient way to keep expectations down. We are paying to be a 6 seed or better. Thats the resource allocation. That should be the expectation. -

The second year thing is enticing. But one thing in the NIL era and as an IU fan, be careful projecting ahead. Have to take care of business first or no one will bother. -

Good enough to not need impact players with 3 scholarships left. -

Glad we had money to spend. We didn’t spend 20 yet though, did we? Maybe we did. AS 4.5 Burton 3 Yigi 2.5-3 Mustaf 1.5 Lindsay 1.5 Sisley 1 Harris 1 3 Freshman 1 to 1.5. 17? It’s better. It has holes. We have 3 spots. Let’s find a way to improve. It’s an expensive sport these days. A 5 star freshman like Thompson would have been nice on this roster. Or a proven SG. Or a stretch 4. Some bargain guys came off the board that didn’t have big price tags. Like the USC guy added today. -

The roster isn’t as good as they think it is. And they are wishcasting quite a bit in the development department. Is it more exciting than last season? Absolutely. So we will always have that at least. Injuries to the key 3 and things get hairy quickly. It might be anyway if projections don’t project. -

I mean, why not, at this stage of his career he’s a practice player. Couldn’t get off the bench on a terrible Maryland team. Im saying this TIC. Hoping to manifest the staff and DeVries some urgency to take these last 3 spots seriously and actually try to improve the team. Yes, I’m bitter. -
I guess. They’ll be a 1 or 2 seed. And that will make for a fun season. Fans are spoiled. They should enjoy what they have because it can go away and never seemingly comeback.

Don’t know if this kid can hang but this is an incredible late roster addition. Defintely not a practice player. Will push to maybe play. Didn’t cost a fortune. This is the type of addition Indiana should have added. Push the freshman a little. Nothing given, everything earned. -
This in largest part has been what’s so infuriating as a CBB for the past 35 years. Indiana, short of finding another legendary coach or a Painter like Coach was never going to be on level ground. And when we decided that we wouldn’t cheat big enough we still tried getting NBA guys that weren’t as good, and still left early. We either needed to “cheat” which is what I thought we should be doing to whatever level Kansas,Duke,Kentucky were doing or embrace the college model and never reach the top echelon of success. We messed everything up for years. Damaged the brand by not winning. And of course don’t get any credit by trying to follow the rules. Infuriating dynamic. So in my estimation we need a gross overspend to jumpstart the rebuild of culture/winning. Fans in my opinion deserve it so much from the years of inept decision making that virtually tanked the program. And the fans continue to keep it afloat. Lets. Go. Win!

The biggest spenders left hand want a cap, right hand don’t want a cap. The top end spenders will find a way to pay over the cap like the old days to get recruting advantages again. It should eventually balance itself out from ROI. I think this season is very near the cap. Payments have doubled then doubled again in the past 2 off seasons. They won’t double again. They, in my estimation will hold steady where we are at. Seems like 20 Million is top with about 8-12 teams there. 15 is the next bench mark with about 10 teams there. Then 10 with another 10-15 there. About 30-35 teams spending big bucks. Big question is will certain programs find ways to join party in those ranges?

Indiana needs The Splash, part 2. Juice this roster up a level. Come on Carr, ya know you want to. -

Yeah we aren’t spending 4+ million on a player when the staff is looking for practice bodies. Would need to go Euro to find a difference maker at this point imo. Who is this years Hannes Steinbach?? And where has he signed already? -
14th out of 18th or 17th or whatever in the B1G. I think we were projected in the top 5. Been a bad season for sure. Always curious what a rebuild looks like or if guys would stay. We seem to have some talent that would be nice to retain. I guess either way, probably time for a new direction, sadly, because I wanted him to succeed.

I believe you are correct, but he didn’t need to and his body and game could use the year to improve. Bad decision imo. -

I mean, maybe we ran out of money, but I don’t think that’s actually it. I think they want the freshman to be rotational players then fill 11-13 with practice bodies. Well, Rabjohns indicated #11 could be a backup with size then 2 practice players. Problem is, if you want freshman to be rotation players at the highest level you need to hit homeruns. Zero indication in the Manhertz scout says he’ll be ready. Then he’s reclassifying on top of it. Which is why they don’t want to recruit over him. Compounding an error with another error. -
Sean Miller just said, educated guess, 7-8 SEC schools topping 20 million. And 20-25 schools overall.

Fair. Timing doesn’t indicate a preferred walkon and bigs very rarely take walk-on spots either. All signs point to a back up big option. I know people hate it, but Rabjohns (who is very friendly with Carr) said 2 of the last 3 we’re going to be practice guys. This fits that. And it’s a terrible idea now just as it was a terrible idea then. Hopefully someone can think things over before final decisions are made.
