Biggest changes needed to the football team?
KB0 replied to Miller'sTheMan's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Lagow cannot be QB. I cannot watch another season of that. I don't care if they put a kitten in an IU jersey under center. Anything but Lagow. -

I don't understand the hiring of Nate. Should have looked external. Wasn't on board with firing Vogel, either.
-
I hope not. That's actually a smart hire.
-
This is all an extremely odd situation. I assume they moved quickly on Allen for a few reasons. They wanted to keep current players and recruits on board, wanted to make sure they didn't lose Allen to another school, and they wanted there to be a sense of continuity. Allen might end up being a fantastic head coach. I hope he's the best in program history. I just wish that the athletic department could have made him interim until the bowl game, and then conducted a thorough search. Obviously, there are a lot of factors at play, so I understand why it didn't happen. Now Allen has to go out and make the right hire at OC. He cannot miss there. Keep Frey and McCollugh around. I'm still excited for the future, just a little more confused and nervous now.

Fantastic result. Wish Assembly could be like that for every game. Newkirk does a really good job at getting into the lane. Just needs to be sure to keep his head once he get's in there. TB got abused a few times in the post on defense. He needs to be stronger and work for better position before the opposing player gets the ball. Can't let them catch it on the block. TB also seems to still struggle with his back to the basket post-ups. I'd be trying to get him the ball in the high post so he can turn and face. DeRon is going to play a major role once he plays himself into game-shape. He's an excellent defender and has shown some solid post moves. Hope OG's sprain isn't actually a high ankle sprain. Those can take 2+ months to com back from and an actual break would most likely be better. Hopefully it's a low ankle sprain and just 3-4 weeks. He was awesome last night.

Fant is graduating but said he was unsure on his future. Might still be back next year. If not, that's a huge loss. Losing Zander really stings. Not necessarily because of his production, but just because of who he is. Works hard and does whatever he is asked. Has all the heart in the world and went out there and busted it when IU didn't have a QB to turn to. Back to today - Man, that was ugly. But it was a win.Four in a row and back-to-back bowl games. In a transition year no less. The program is definitely making progress. A bowl win would be massive for this team and would definitely help recruiting. I'll be praying for the Music City Bowl. Not sure how likely that is. Quck Lane Bowl wouldn't be terrible either. Something close please.

Yeah, this isn't true. We might not play IPFW in Fort Wayne again in the near future, but your original claim is false.
-
Good gravy guys, some of you want to act like the world is ending. Should IU have won that game? Absolutely. Am I surprised that they lost on the road to a smaller in-state school? Not one bit. This game meant the world to Fort Wayne and it showed. For those of you acting like this is a devastating loss that will haunt the team on Selection Sunday, I just don't see it. IPFW is as good as a few of the teams at the lower-end of the conference. Statistically, the road loss last night was equivalent to losing to Texas at home. I hope Glass/Crean continue to schedule these sorts of games. It's great for the state and it's great for basketball. It is definitely better than playing another 300+ ranked team in Assembly Hall. For everyone wanting to throw players under the bus, claim they aren't ready for prime-time, etc, etc, just pump the brakes a little. It's not even Thanksgiving yet.

We're a football school anyway.
-
Figured I'd go ahead and get this game started since Saturday is the big one. Chance to keep the bucket for a fourth straight year and to go bowling for the second straight year. A lot on the line. Rough weekend with all of the Thanksgiving festivities, but hoping some fans turn out at Memorial for this one.

I wasn't raised on IU Football like I was IU Basketball. Sure, I caught a few games here or there, but it was never appointment viewing for my dad, so it wasn't for me. Then I went to IU and missed maybe one game in four years. IU was terrible for nearly every year I was there and students just didn't show up. Tailgate, nap, hit the bars or a house party. It's how the system is. Even now that we're getting better, kids still don't want to sit through 4-4.5 hour games. It's a sad reality. I just wish they'd give it a chance, because I enjoy IU Football just as much as I do IU Basketball now, just in different ways. I was at the Big House this weekend. When IU went up 7-3 and still held the lead in the 3rd quarter, I never expected a win, but I thought it spoke volumes about how much better this program has gotten. IU doesn't get embarrassed week-in and week-out anymore. It just doesn't happen. That's progress. Obviously, all fans want them to win one of these games. It would be great for the players psychologically and it would be great for recruiting. IU has a chance to make it to back-to-back bowl games for the first time in 25 years. Doesn't matter how they got there or who they played. IU had to increase the amount of conference games they played this season and they are standing one win away from bowl eligibility. The Bucket could be headed back to Bloomington for the 4th straight season. That's tangible progress. Eventually it might not be enough, but for now it is. There were certainly missed opportunities this season. Wake Forest, Nebraska, PSU all spring to mind. Maybe this team should have reached 7 wins instead of 6 (potentially), but it's hard to complain after losing one of the best QBs in IU history, a stud RB, and a first-round offensive linemen. Next season is the interesting season to me. Personally I'm confident that Allen will be back as DC. I'm hopeful that either Lagow will make some mechanical improvements or King/Ramsey will take over the starting job. Patrick will hopefully be healthy and a bigger part of the offense. Cobbs and Harris will be back. Maybe next season will be the jump everyone wants. 7 wins and a third straight bowl would be a huge step in the right direction. Before any of that can happen, beat Purdue and let's go bowling for a second time. -
