Indiana Heads to Rutgers for 2021 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament Story Links TOURNAMENT CENTRAL INDIANA GAME NOTES (PDF) BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After dropping the regular season finale to No. 6 Northwestern, the 7th-seeded Indiana Field Hockey team prepares for a quick turnaround to face 2nd-seeded Rutgers in the opening round of the 2021 Big Ten Tournament. The matches will take place in Piscataway. ALL-TIME SERIES Rutgers holds a 9-2 all-time advantage over Indiana after a 1-0, double-overtime match in early October. IU held strong all game but conceded a winning goal to the Scarlet Knights in the closing seconds of the second-overtime period. IU's last win in the series came in a 2016 match in Bloomington that IU won 3-2. SCOUTING THE OPPONENT Rutgers is coming off one of its most successful regular seasons in program history. The Scarlet Knights went 15-3 and 6-2 in Big Ten play to finish in second behind Iowa. Senior midfielder Milena Redlingshoefer and freshman forward Lucy Bannatyne pace the Rutgers offensive attack. The two have six goals a piece and have combined for 34 points this season. Senior goalie Gianna Glatz and freshman defender Iris Langejans help lead a backline that has conceded just 18 goals this season and tallied seven shutouts. LAST TIME: 2020-2021 SEASON IU spent the entire 2020-2021 spring season on the road in Head Coach Kayla Bashore's second year in charge. The Hoosiers finished the campaign 1-14 overall and in conference play. Then-junior Peyton Becker's overtime winner on April 15th at Michigan State gave IU its first victory of the season. WATCH LIST The Big Ten Conference named its Preseason Honorees on Wednesday, August 25th. Senior Hailey Couch, Senior Mary Kate Kesler and Freshman Kira Curland were named to the list for Indiana. RETURNING TALENT Mary Kate Kesler returns as last year's leading point scorer. The Louisville native scored seven points in a condensed-spring season. After opting out for health and safety concerns, Hailey Couch returns to action as the team's active goal scorer. In her sophomore season, Couch bagged 10 goals enroute to Second Team All-Big Ten honors. Senior Jes McGivern (64), junior Kennedy Reardon (51) and senior Peyton Becker (39) have each also played 35-plus matches in an IU uniform. HOT START IU's 4-1 start was the best five-game start to a season since starting 5-0 in 2014. The seven goals scored on the opening weekend matched the most IU's scored in its first two games since scoring nine goals in the first two matches of 2014. IU's 17 penalty corners against Richmond were the most in a game since it had 17 against Northwestern on November 4, 2005. FRESHMEN SENSATIONS Goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge has nine victories in 18 appearances this season. Midfielder Kira Curland has scored a team-high seven goals in 19 games this season. Forward Kayla Kiwak (2) and midfielders Sofia Arrebola Garcia (2) and Maggie Carter (3) have also scored for IU this season. Curland's seven goals are the most by an IU freshman in a single season since Frederique Meeuwsen scored 10 in 2004. Arrebola Garcia's and Curland's six assists are the most in a single season by an IU player since Mollie Getzfread had nine in 2016. Freshmen have combined for 50 points for IU this season. Curland is T-1st in goals by a Big Ten Freshman (7), T-1st in assists by a Big Ten Freshman (6) and 1st in points by a Big Ten Freshman (20). Loveridge is the only starting freshman goalie in the Big Ten and has held a 1.96 GAA against the nation's most elite offenses. Curland was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on October 26th. It was IU's first weekly award since 2017 and first conference freshman of the week award since 2015. BEST OF THE BEST IU has played 10 ranked opponents this season. The Hoosiers are 2-8 so far against Top-25 teams with a win over No. 21 Miami and No. 16 Ohio State IU's match against Rutgers on Thursday will be the 11th ranked opponent that IU has faced this season.

Exhibition game, but, still, it's basketball! Free admission/ALS Awareness Night- Wear Red! Tip is 7 pm Radio broadcast on WHCC 105.1 FM. It will be different for sure without Greg Murray on the call! UIndy is picked to finish 3rd in the East GLVC (they have three divisions, 20 game schdule). I don't know much about them (my daughter goes there, but isn't a sports person lol)- finished 11-11 last season, roster looks relatively balanced in terms of classes.

There are many fans that think that a recruit should choose IU (or whichever other school) based on the expectations that exist in that fan's head. "He should come here because XXX and XXX". You have to give thought to where the recruit is comfortable, and feels they'll be the most productive and happy. -
