Hoosiers Travel to Columbus, Host Michigan Story Links MATCH NOTES BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's soccer team (8-2-1) will travel to Columbus for a Thursday night match against Ohio State at 7pm and host Michigan on Sunday at 1pm Bill Armstrong Stadium. SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES Ohio State is 7-4 on the season and tied with the Hoosiers for fifth in the conference standings. The Buckeyes are coming off a win against No. 12 Penn State on Sunday in State College. The Buckeyes have scored 21 goals on the season and given up 19. Ohio State has three players that have scored four or more goals. SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES Michigan is 7-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in Big Ten play. Most recently Michigan played to a 0-0 draw against Wisconsin. The Wolverines beat Illinois 2-1 in double overtime for their win in conference play. WEBBER, GERSTENBERG EARN BIG TEN HONORS Paige Webber earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and Jamie Gerstenberg earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Sept. 14. Webber got a hat trick against Murray State and added an assist in the Hoosiers win at Kansas State. Gerstenberg has three straight shutouts and six shutouts on the season. GERSTENBERG SHUTING OUT THE COMPETITION Indiana goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg is tied for the NCAA lead in shutouts with seven this season. Gerstenberg is two away from matching the Hoosiers program record for shutouts in a season. OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION Against Southeast Missouri State on Sunday the Hoosiers scored six goals, their most in a match since the 2011 season. All six goals came in the first half of the match, which set a program record for goals in a half. Six different players scored the six goals for the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers hold a 21-4 advantage in goal scoring over their opponents this season.

Hoosiers Sweep Michigan State To Start Big Ten Play Story Links BOX SCORE (PDF) BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –Indiana Volleyball (7-6, 1-0 Big Ten) swept Michigan State (7-3, 0-1 Big Ten) 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-) to open the Big Ten Conference slate on Friday night. KEY MOMENTS • Letting the Spartans take a 4-1 lead to start the first set, the Hoosiers bounced back with a kill from Kari Zumach followed by an attack error by Michigan State. Kaley Rammelsberg tied it with a slam of her own. • Spending most of the frame down, two straight Indiana kills by Mady Saris and one from Rammelsberg put the Hoosiers back in it down one, 15-14. The score shifted in Indiana's favor with another attack error by the Spartans and the scoreboard read 19-18. • Savannah Kjolhede recorded her first point of the night before a pair of errors gave Indiana the set one victory, 25-21. • Indiana's first kill of the second frame came from Rammelsberg who helped the Hoosiers tie it at four. Despite playing from behind, Breana Edwardsfound the floor in back-to-back rallies as the Hoosiers and Spartans were knotted at 8-8. • A pair of kills from Edwards and Rammelsberg forced Michigan State to call a timeout as Indiana took a 15-14 lead. • Letting Michigan State in front, kills by Rammelsberg and Saris put the Hoosiers ahead by one. The two squads exchanged points before Indiana was able to put the Spartans away and closed out the second set by a score of 25-23. • Tied at 5-5 in the third set, Zumach lifted Indiana ahead 6-5. A slam by Edwards and an attack error gave the match its last lead change as Indiana pulled in front 9-7. • Edwards saw back-to-back kills to push the Hoosiers lead to 15-11. A quick kill by Camryn Haworth kept the momentum going as the Hoosiers took a 17-12 advantage. • Despite a late rally by Michigan State, Indiana was able to preserve the lead to win the third and final set, 25-19. All-Time Series • The Boilermakers hold a 72-34 all-time series record. Last time out the Hoosiers fell in straight sets on the road, 3-0 (18-25, 11-25, 14-25). • Michigan State gets the edge over the Hoosiers in the all-time series, 30-50. Checking Out the Competition • MICHIGAN STATE: Cathy George is at the helm of the Spartans program and is in her 17th year. Michigan State has started the 2021 campaign hot with a 7-2 record so far. Their two losses have come at the foot of Wright State and BYU. The Spartans attack is led by senior middle blocker Rebecka Pojian who has tallied 74 kills and a hitting percentage of .473. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Sarah Franklin leads the squad on defense with 39 total blocks this season. • PURDUE: The Boilermakers are coached by Dave Shondell who is in his 19th season as head coach. Purdue is ranked No. 7 in the country and have played to an 8-1 record with their only loss coming to then No. 10 Louisville on Sept.10 at the Xavier University Tournament. The Boilermakers are led by senior outside hitter Grace Cleveland, and she has recorded 98 kills and a hitting percentage of .379. Sophomore middle blocker Taylor Trammell has a team-leading 34 blocks this season on defense.

ALL TIME SERIES Maryland has taken a firm control on the series between the two teams since entering the Big Ten Conference. IU has yet to win a match against the Terrapins in eight attempts. IU has dominated the series with Ball State over the years. The Hoosiers are 13-5 all time against the Cardinals and have won six in a row against its in-state rival. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS Maryland heads to Bloomington after a mid-week victory over Princeton on Tuesday evening. The Terrapins dropped the conference opener against Penn State last weekend Ball State comes into the weekend on the heels of a road-conference victory over Central Michigan. The Cardinals continue MAC play on Friday afternoon against Ohio before welcoming IU on Sunday afternoon. LAST TIME: 2020-2021 SEASON IU spent the entire 2020-2021 spring season on the road in Head Coach Kayla Bashore's second year in charge. The Hoosiers finished the campaign 1-14 overall and in conference play. Then-junior Peyton Becker's overtime winner on April 15th at Michigan State gave IU its first victory of the season.

SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES Iowa comes in with a record of 7-1-1 on the season with their only defeat on the road at Kansas. The Hawkeyes won their Big Ten opener last week at home 2-1 against Northwestern. In the shortened spring season of 2021 Iowa won their program's first ever Big Ten Tournament Championship, defeating Wisconsin in the final. Iowa beat Campbell in the first round of the NCAA tournament before dropping a match to UCLA. The Hawkeyes finished that season with an overall record of 7-9-1. Last season the Hoosiers beat Iowa 2-0 in Bloomington. On Sunday the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish battled to a 0-0 draw. Previously the Hoosiers were 0-11 all-time against Notre Dame. 2021 SPRING SEASON The 2021 spring season was historic for the Hoosiers. Indiana tied a program record for Big Ten wins and established a new school record for Big Ten points in a season with 19. On March 2, the Hoosiers were ranked in the top-25 for the first time since 2013.
