  5. WESTFIELD, Ind. - The Indiana softball team opened up fall play over the weekend at the College GameDay Tournament presented by Bullpen Tournaments in Westfield, Ind. After tying with Ball State, 3-3, in eight innings, three Hoosier pitchers combined for a no-hitter in a 1-0 shutout of Valparaiso.   "Sunday was awesome," said Indiana head coach Michelle Gardner. "I was very pleased with a tie with Ball State and the win in the second game. I was just excited to see everybody compete so hard."   In the contest against the Cardinals, sophomore Rebecca Blitz scored a pair of runs for the Hoosiers, while also picking up a hit and a pair of walks. Senior Michelle Huber went 3-for-4 at the plate and brought in a pair of runs on a game-tying RBI double in the seventh inning that scored Blitz and senior Alyssa Rosati.   Sophomore Taylor Uden also had a multi-hit game against Ball State as she went 2-for-4 for the Hoosiers. Junior Erin Lehman and seniors Shannon Cawley and Kelsey Dotson each picked up a hit in the game.   The second game of the day saw the Indiana pitching staff shine as freshmen Josie Wood, Tara Trainer and Olivia White combined to no-hit Valparaiso.   Blitz collected two hits while again registering a run for the Hoosiers as she was brought in by Dotson, who also picked up a pair of hits against the Crusaders. For the weekend Blitz, who was named NFCA Second Team All-Region after her freshman campaign, reached base in seven out of eight at bats.   "When you carry as many players as we're carrying right now it's extremely important to get the idea of team," said Gardner. "It's hard because they're still competing for positions but we're still just one team. We're focused on that quite a bit, just truly trying to get that 'it's about us, not I' mentality. I felt like we did a good job with a lot of things yesterday. It was pretty exciting."   Indiana continues its fall slate this Friday as the Hoosiers host Indiana State in doubleheader action beginning at 5 p.m. Admission is free to the public.   "They're just so excited to put on a jersey, suit up and be at home," said Gardner. "I think it will be really special for all of the players because it's their time to get together and get a feel for what will take place in the spring on that field." http://www.iuhoosiers.com/news/2015/9/21/SB_0921153914.aspx
