(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA
HoosierAloha replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We could be an extremely improved team and only win 2-3 more games next season. We played a cakewalk in the noncon and had an easier Big 1.o schedule. I expect this will change a little starting next season. -
IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
HoosierAloha replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I fear you are correct. If he continues to show he's the same player he's been the majority of the last 4 years... we SHOULD move on to a different option. -
Playing the "safer" shot will lead to a more consistent score, although it might not necessarily be the lower score nor nearly as fun.
-
Technically, you're paying the same to play more golf than someone with a better score...

(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA
HoosierAloha replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I would say having a Reneau type of talent coming off the bench as a freshman could indicate the program is progressing in the stacking of classes. -
Ask @Josh, although I don't see how his could get any worse.

You all are lucky! I didn't get a ride. I had to walk... (yes, I was an idiot for breaking the law that close to the cop shop)
-
And herein lies the bigger issues... I won't pretend to know what the other players think or how they reacted to this. It wouldn't shock me if they were "too cool to stand up." One of many interesting aspects of this board are the diversity in experiences. The wide ranging disciplinary actions proposed is an example of that. One of many things I've harped on for more than a hot minute is program culture. Having teammates and others view this as "no big deal, just college kids being college kids" speaks to the lack of the right culture to me. Here is where I'm coming from with this. I was with a unit that I thought was awesome and had great culture. We took turns getting in trouble but getting out of it because we were "above the law." It wasn't until I transferred to a unit that actually had culture did I realize the difference. If we have teammates not caring what X has done we're not close to the culture we need to have. Accountability, even in small matters carries a lot of weight. Integrity (doing the right thing when nobody is watching) and trust are tied into these small acts. I'm not saying he needs to be kicked off the team but he definitely needs to get his act together to push the program forward. He needs to do better.

I wouldn't be against Woody attaching him to his hip for the summer. A lot of opportunities to build trust during that time!
-
I agree with a lot of what you posted. However, I would hope Woody includes getting arrested in his team rules. "Not getting arrested" would be pretty high up on my list of team rules. (i.e. bringing discredit upon yourself, the IU men's basketball program, etc.) Building culture is difficult, continuing to have setbacks because players compound dumb decisions on top of dumb decisions makes it that much harder. X, being a senior and the pg, has younger players looking up to him and teammates counting on his decision making. It's extremely easy to brush it off as a bad decision but it continues to happen.

Could the officer had not clocked the speed prior to X arriving on W Old State Rd 37, speeding up to get to that turnaround a little quicker, and pulled out onto N Walnut at a speed slightly above the speed limit as X was slowing to turn on the bypass? X turns on the bypass while the officer is speeding up with his lights on, has visual on the Charger once on the bypass and then sees him make an immediate right? I'm certain the officer wasn't staying within the speed limit while in pursuit but I highly doubt it was as reckless as described. Further, running emergency lights while in pursuit and probably (hopefully !!) having a little more training and experience wouldn't make it as reckless as X doing 90 in his Charger. I don't know if there is a non-pursuit law for police departments in Monroe County but I doubt it was THAT dangerous to catch up to him.

I think you make a great point having a bumpier road during the maturing process would make it easier to relate to players. Although, it's probably slightly different relative to the times. The point that was made was Knight can't be the holy one because he had questionable character, I think? My thoughts - the overall point is carrots and sticks can be used for players to meet/exceed standards and create a culture of discipline. Negative trends need to be fixed. If I can't trust you to do things when nobody is watching you I can't trust you to run my team.

https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/mike-woodson-can-relate-to-disciplinary-measures-as-coach-from-his-time-as-an-iu-player/ Woody was caught smoky pot in Alaska? Should have used (?) for the current players. Can he discipline the current players, for whatever they did, because he was put on probation once for smoking pot? Can we use a good quote about discipline from Woody or no, after all he's a flawed human being like the rest of us? Can anyone discipline anyone or use quotes because they're not the holy one?

Is that actually the NCAA rules? I thought NCAA drug testing was only conducted during tournaments. I thought member schools had to create a drug testing program within NCAA guidelines and responsible for administering that program (what Syracuse got in trouble for several years ago). Also, I didn't think first offenses were 3 game suspensions. Also, does the staff carry drug tests on the road? (these are legit questions in case you felt I was talking down to you I get that text might be difficult to determine that)

I was asking questions to clarify what you meant as you were the one mentioning Knight being crowned the holy one (nobody stated this or implied this before), me being a smart man/woman, and trying to keep up. I guess I could have just assumed but we know what that gets us. Your interpretation of the text in my posts was me talking down. They are legit questions trying to figure out how we jumped from applicable punishment to the holy one. I believe the quote from Knight is excellent and applicable in many cases. Does that make me believe Knight is the holy one or that he did nothing wrong? (How does that make sense?) These are legit questions. If you don't feel you can properly explain then please leave it.
-
Question mark - asking, are you implying players shouldn't be disciplined due to words and actions of a previous coach. Literally, my last post. I believe the quote was used because of its applicability in the context of punishment. There was zero evidence the poster claimed Knight was the holy one. Should Woody not have disciplined the players for smoking pot because he smoked pot? (question mark again, it's meant to ask a question)
-
You felt I was smart enough to figure it out. I was trying to understand how a Knight quote about butt -> bench -> brain led to putting hands on players, rape, and overall treatment of people. Please show me where I said you said players should not be disciplined.
-
Don't discipline current players because a previous coach did and said some horrible things? I think I'm starting to figure it out.
-
Woody is going to win 3 nattys while at IU? X is going to start dealing and tricking?
-
Knight quote about disciplining players that make dumb decisions... leads to the worst of Knight and crowning him the holy one? Whaaaaaat? How does that make sense?

The Sweet 16 and beyond did nothing to prepare teams for the ability to shed tackles physicality of the Big 1.o season. - Big 1.o front office

That was a heck of an elbow Manek took

I'm rooting for the NCAA to drop appropriate sanctions on both teams during halftime. We all know that's a longer shot than purdoodoo to not **** the bed in the tourney. I'll root for a good game that goes down to the wire and for us to get our **** together so we're on this stage in the next few years.
