  1. His daughter.. haha pretty sure that happened while at FC in the late 90s when he was already old as dirt. I believe he was suspended or forced out at FC in the early 2000s
  2. I've attempted to be consistent in using "if the right coach were available" in my posts. However, there is a risk/reward element to it. It feels we've been rather risk adverse for a number of years now. As long as Woody is mediocre, we'll continue to have Woody and the army of positive posters that inflate his "accomplishments." That's fine for some but I'd much rather cycle through a few Woody level coaches until we find one up to what should be our standard.
  3. Nowhere close to goals =/= failure Did we get close to winning the Big Ten regular season or tourney? Did we get close to winning a natty? Mike Woodson is a mediocre coach who got and kept the head coaching job because he played at IU decades ago. It wasn’t a serious hire. It’s possible for me to root and hope for IU to hang banners while understanding the above. I’m not telling anyone how they should root for their team. I do find it funny how some seem to have forgotten about the previous three years because we’ve cycled back to hanging a banner for winning the offseason.. again. Show me you can win something meaning besides an off-season bidding war with booster money. Understanding what doesn’t work, having the humility to admit it, and then working hard to correct would be a great start. After you reach a stated goal, do it again and again to prove you’re better than a mediocre coach. Until we get to that point I believe he’s earned his spot in the bottom half of the Big Ten coaching rankings. A good way to judge a coach is to imagine them coaching at a rival school. Would anyone be worried about Woody coaching at pUKe or purdoodoo? I know I’d be ecstatic in that scenario.
  4. I’d love for IU to hang multiple banners this coming season and I’d still move on if a coach I thought could lead this program was available. I’ve said from the beginning it’s not the W/L record but how you play the game. We didn’t make the corrections necessary from year 1 to year 2 and fell off a cliff in year 3. You greatly increase your chances by decreasing your mistakes. We look to increase our wins by increasing talent and ignoring all the fixable, fundamental mistakes (taking care of the ball, rebounding, free throws, etc.) while playing an outdated version of basketball. I trust Woody to be the coach that could lose with his players and turnaround and lose with the players who just beat him. He’s mediocre and can only win with talent. He’s not a coach who will win by scheme or motivation. The motivation part goes back much further than Woody. We need to have a standard for the coach at IU that’s higher than some affiliation decades ago. Until we set that standard we’ll continue to find reasons why a mediocre coach should remain the coach when we all know we need to move on.
  5. Imagine being in a “fire coach” thread defending a mediocre coach because he won the offseason… again. These threads don’t appear or continue when you actually meet or exceed expectations, I.e. you are a good coach.
  6. Why should next year be the judgement year? Shouldn’t every year be a judgement year? 1st - nowhere close to goals and off court embarrassment 2nd - nowhere close to goals and off court embarrassment 3rd - nowhere close to goals 4th - this is the judgement year..?
  7. Is Woody in the top half of Bg Ten coaches? He’s kind of followed the tradition of the last few decades with plenty of stars and little to nothing to show for it. It kind of feels like a Cal-Kensucky-lite situation with great individual talent that goes to the league but doesn’t do much for the program. We’ve been a pretty dumb program for awhile and that hasn’t changed under Woody despite the influx of talent (or not talent when we’re trying to excuse his bad coaching). He could go to a FF next year and if I could get the coach I want after I’d let him go. An overachieving year would be a nice change for once. My emotions couldn’t care less what Woody says to fans. He just needs to win and at a high level. My hope for this year is that a few players step up in the next few months as leaders because the coach isn’t leading them to anything. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  8. The argument for Woody being a good coach was winning a few more games with Miller’s (the worst IU coach by far the last couple of decades) players? That’s a really really low bar. I like the new transfer additions but now they’re going to have to work and Woody is going to have to coach them up. I’ll hold judgement about the 24-25 edition until they show what they’re about on the court.
  9. Sending positive thoughts and vibes your way LCS! Stay strong and bounce back even better than before.
  10. This should be year 1, not year 4, type stuff but I’ll be looking for leadership, the off-season work they put in this summer, and the dreaded e and e to begin the season. This might be as telling as any shooting % any individual or team total they put up this season. Is the attitude closer one of cohesion and battling for each other with a few leaders stepping forward or are we playing “Easy like a Sunday morning” style Woody ball again?
  11. Solid pickup, welcome to Hoosier Nation Ballo
  12. How much of that usage was tossing it into the post and letting him go to work vs. movement to get him an advantage to score? If we toss the ball into the post and stand around for another season we won’t be near as successful as we could be.
  13. Stumbled across the triple crown at Sunset driving up the windward shore while exploring the island my first few months living there. I would highly recommend visiting a surfing event if you get the chance. I love surfing but the north shore swells are a different animal. The biggest I’ve surfed were ~12’ waves on the south shore during summer swells and that is considered small in winter on the north shore.
  14. Would love to see UCONNs stats regarding % of plays in the post if that stat exist. I didn’t watch a lot of UCONN this season but I didn’t see a lot of tossing it into the post and standing around waiting for Clingan to shoot. Having a 4 that can shoot from outside helps along with attacking guards and wings that can score. Basically, they were exactly like IU in that they put 5 players on the court.
  15. Where to start with all this nonsense.. Can’t believe people’s number 1 concern last offseason was shooting. My number 1 concern was coaching. We could have done more with the roster we had which is true for previous seasons too. On the topic of offseasons, looks like we’ve entered our most successful season of the year. Get the banners ready boys! We need many things including players and coaching who understand spacing. While that’s extremely important, we leaders on the court and sidelines badly. How many times have we led for a recruit thinking we had them in the bag only to watch them go elsewhere? Imaginary lineups are fun but maybe we sign those portal players, get them on campus, and have an off-season with much less yapping and a lot more leading to improve themselves and the team. Super happy to have TJD and JHS get drafted last season and hopefully Ware this season. I’m more concerned about how players impact IU winning games. We’re like a Cal-at-pUKe-lite getting players drafted but haven’t don’t ****-for-all to improve the IU program. BS isn’t coming to IU until we have better administrators. Not sure how this has changed over the last few years You would think with how the program directs all the trolls with burners they could do better directing what truly matters but here we are
  16. Why do people dog him then bring his stuff back to the board after he’s been booted or left or whatever happened? Seems odd
  17. Great season by the pu fighting Edey’s but this game shows the gap between the Big Ten and the elites of college basketball. The skill level between the teams was marginal but the athleticism was night and day.
  18. If this were a 7 game series I believe UCONN wins handily with pu only winning a game or two. However, the story of winning a natty after getting bounced by a 16 seed is quite a great story for the NCAA, again. It'll be interesting to see the flow and tempo of the game.
  19. **Unless you’re a mod then feel free to ignore any rules that apply to others or if you’re praising anything related to IUBB
  20. Soju by itself or mixed with anything. Make sure you drink while standing and moving the first few times. First bottle is on me if we get a new coach soon
  21. We’ve had this conversation several times but it still amazes me people ignore or are clueless to the dysfunction of the administration. It’s not limited to the athletic department only. You could use IU as a case study in how to ruin a good thing. Integrity would be a major component of what is lacking.
  22. That Iowa State vs. Stanford game delivered late into the night
  23. No cost workaround, place a sticky note over the receiver on the TV, this will reduce the ability of the passive IR receiver to make it a bit more directional. Find the angle in which you can aim to control only the number of TVs you’d like. I’ll sometimes scroll through the recent channel guide to find the game I want on TV2, aim to control only TV1, and then click “ok” or “enter” for both. Laziness is the greatest motivator for innovation.
