Changes needed to the basketball team other than

An offense that isn't just street ball. Part of a coach's job is to adjust to what he has. Hey, I didn't say fire the coach. -

Please tell me he did not say that.... Sadly, it sounds plausible. -

Maybe he'll break out the "lights were too bright" or "bench wasn't loud enough" crap again. -
Davis actually goes to the post, where Bryant wants to set up camp on the perimeter. That's a plus.

I think you're being a bit generous. I do think his whining and pouting has doubled though.

Neither should a loss to IPFW. My expectations with Crean are pretty low, but not that low. That one Final Four isn't his true coaching caliber, but neither is missing the NCAA tournament with 2 McDs AAs (still can't believe he managed that one....). He's somewhere in between. Problem is we're paying for a Final Four caliber coach because Crean could sell ice to an eskimo.

This team would have to absolutely collapse to miss the tournament. If that happened Crean should be fired on the spot. That won't happen.

Indiana vs Louisville Game Thread

IU has missed some good looks, but so has Louisville. -
Let's also petition the NCAA to only allow the likes of Houston Baptist and Delaware State into the NCAA tournament. Might get past the Sweet 16.

The way it's going, a liquor bar. With doctors on call ready to treat alcohol poisoning.

I've read that before. Boy, it hits the nail on the head.

There's a reason I haven't been as active. Too many posters that want nothing but roses and rainbows and can't handle people being critical of Crean.
-
That's way too soft. I'd rather be around where MSU is, might take a few early losses but the team will be battle tested and used to a small margin of error.
-
He's shown he can develop guards/wings, but big development leaves a lot to be desired.

He's not an incompetent coach by any means. He's good at many of the aspects of being a coach, the problem is his weaknesses are critical aspects and in 20 years as a coach he hasn't really shown improvement in those. That makes his ceiling limited. Many of your weaknesses hit the spot, adding in that he's not good at making in-game adjustments. The in-game chess match so to speak.
-
I'd say he's good, but not great. I'd put walk-ons getting significant minutes on his WTF substitutions, at least partly.

You just had to mention that silly man-to-zone-switch-mid-possession thing didn't you? I could've gone a very long time without being reminded of that. Seems like the only team that ever confused was IU.

Some people thought he made changes. Others were cautiously optimistic that he had suddenly figured something out. Frankly, I was in group C that thought it was just a one off year where he did a good coaching job like we'd already seen him do; every now and then he does have a good year of coaching, but has shown zilch in terms of figuring it out and actually sustaining it. After 20 years, he's not going to. This season has shown just more of what we've seen to be typical of Crean teams.

I'm in the camp that says the state of Indiana specifically, and the surrounding area, should be the single highest priority in recruiting. It's one of the richest hot beds in the country and we're located right in the heart. Not many of the top programs can say the same. Not the mention that the way the game is taught can make a difference, a focus on the fundamentals that make the game can matter. Yes, I do think there is a difference from what I've seen of Indiana ball and East coast ball. Soccer players have said they went overseas to become better players become the game is taught differently, because there is less tolerance for error; same concept here.

We know. I've said this same thing ad nauseam. As long as Glass is the AD Crean will be the coach until he keels over, the program won't win at a level that should be expected in that time but Glass doesn't give a crap. It doesn't mean we can't vent. Frustrating thing is it wouldn't take a lot to get an improvement. Gregg Marshall would be an improvement. Tony Bennett would be an improvement. Hell, there's times a guy from the stands with a "coaching basketball for dummies" book would be an improvement.
-
It's more like make more excuses and continue to lower expectations, because the alternative means admitting the coaching is inadequate.

No one was beating UK in that Sweet 16 game. At the time I thought a better draw would've done it, now well.... 2012-2013 should've been. That team was laughably unprepared for a zone, forget missing shots that team didn't do a darn thing to create a good look they just stood around hoping Syracuse would get lost. Didn't attack the middle to force them to match up, slow ball reversals, it's like they were surprised Syracuse ran a zone.

That was from all the way back when we lost to UNC in the Sweet 16, that game wasn't on him. Last night? Absolutely.

Damn Samoans...... Although the way they're playing I'd take a few for our defense.
