https://www.si.com/college/iowa/football/big-noon-kickoff-heads-iowa-hawkeyes-despite-cbs-broadcast It is unusual for them to be separate, but there is really no reason given outside of they both are pretty big games. FOX gets their choice of which to broadcast, and they might have had a hard time to figure out which one to do at noon. I am just spit balling ideas.

If that coach has enough pull, he could end up getting to say Yay or Nay on who gets the job also.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46792198/lsu-interim-ad-verge-ausberry-hire-next-football-coach They don't like Vandy and IU being in the hunt while they are not. They gave the interim AD the ability to hire the next coach which I can see seeing he is a former player who has been "connected" with the school for 30 years. We will see. "We're going to hire the best football coach there is," Ausberry said in a news conference Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. "That's our job. We are not going to let this program fail. LSU has to be in the playoffs every year in football. There's 12 teams that make it. It's going to expand here. We have to be one of those teams at LSU. No substitute."
-
Also, look at what Lea is doing at Vandy. 2 schools who were basically doormats in their conferences are having some awesome runs in football because they found a coach who can win there. That has to put a lot of pressure at places who have hung their hat on being known for football. I think it is crazy awesome.

Looks like they were throwing up some bricks in the second half. The question would be is Georgetown better than previously thought, or is PUke and pUKe not nearly as good? It is probably somewhere in between.
-
That is what is nice about having an alumnus and has been in the department basically his adult life. We can be pretty confident he isn't going anywhere.
-
They did with Bill O'Brien and Franklin, but they didn't get the results they wanted. They are now looking to be lowering those standards a bit.

The question is, with all the huffing and puffing the Gov of LA is stating about Kelly being owed all that money, does Kelly find another one and take some of that sting off of LSU from owing him a chunk of change?

Big job openings get some coaches big extensions.
-
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46773515/gov-jeff-landry-critical-ad-scott-woodward-amid-lsu-shakeup They didn't have to fire him and pay that money. The could've let him finish the year and coach next year to lower it, but they didn't. Putting that big of a buyout is crazy, but they do it anyway and get stuck with a boat load of cash to pay. I seriously doubt if the taxpayers are having to pay that money, but I get where the Governor is coming from. The AD should have his head examined for giving Kelly a 9 year extension in the first place, and I bet he is gone one way or another in a few months. You don't have the Governor talking like this about you at a yuge state school and survive it.

Ah yes, the popcorn balls and caramel apples that you had to have the police scan to make sure there weren't razorblades in them before you ate them. I can do the popcorn balls all day, but just give me candy instead of the apples.
-
Yeah, this has no chance of getting through Congress. The President appoints the commissioner of a new college sports association? That won't become political at all. These colleges don't have to fire these coaches and pay that amount of buyouts, but they do it when they know the price. It isn't like the actual university is actually paying the buyout anyway which this Congressman should know.

Snickers and then Reese's followed by Skittles are the answers. If you choose any other candy, I have to question your ability to choose candy.

Still rooting for Toronto just because of Evansville's Donnie Baseball on the coaching staff of the Blue Jays, but it is pretty cool to see local guys coming up big.
-
If I were the incoming coach, I would want the first crack at trying to recruit any players on the team and send the ones I don't want packing.
-
I can understand why. It would disrupt the current team they are on, and they wouldn't be able to leave and join the other team till the season is over anyway. They are still in school, so in theory they need to finish the semester first. It would be awesome to see some of those PSU and LSU players head to Bloomington though this Spring.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/live-updates-nba-chauncey-billups-terry-rozier-arrested-gambling-rcna239312 This is an update thread for the "scandal"

Rozier pulled himself out of a game in late 2023 for an "injury", and he told his childhood best friend before the game who sold that information to someone for $100k. Out of the 35 arrested, 3 were in both the poker and the sports betting scheme. I totally believe that stuff like this happens more than we know. "Jones allegedly sold information on a prominent player's injury to sports bettors while he was an unofficial assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2023. The indictment said that Jones was either a teammate or coach of the player, unnamed, while Jones played on the Cavaliers and coached for the Lakers. That relationship allowed him access to "non-public information" about that player's medical status on Feb. 9, 2023, when the Lakers were playing the Milwaukee Bucks. Jones allegedly texted his co-conspirator that the player would be out that night and to "Get a big bet on Milwaukee tonight before the information is out!" according to the indictment. LeBron James, power forward for the Lakers, was out that night due to a sore left ankle and foot, according to a game recap."

A lot of details are coming out. "A detention memo said the games were rigged through sophisticated cheating technology, such as altered card shuffling machines, hidden cameras in poker chip trays, special sunglasses and X-ray equipment built into the table to read the cards of unsuspecting players." I guess one night in Vegas with an "altered card shuffling machine", he won so many hands that he was told to lose a couple to not draw suspicion that he was cheating. There are 4 mob families tied to it with 35 people arrested. Rozier and Billups have been put on leave.

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/46689420/ncaa-allows-athletes-bet-pro-sports-starting-nov-1 I'm not sure how I feel about this. They can bet on professional sports, but they still cannot bet or share competition information on college sports with bettors. It's a slippery slope.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/46680426/michigan-state-coach-tom-izzo-sounds-ncaa-louisville-signs-former-g-league-player This article mentions a second player who was with the NBA Academy Africa was granted last month to play for Santa Clara. It is turning into a slippery slope.
