This guy hates fun. -
He is the same class as Khristian Lander and reclassed when Lander did, too. Both were 5 stars. Askew might have been top 10 in the class.

Can you enlighten the rest of us what we aren’t privy to and what years these unforgivable offenses occurred?

Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach
PartyintheVillas replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was at first really impressed with Drake last night until I couldn't figure out why Missouri kept pressuring so far out from the basket which just enabled their passing and cutting. It was what Drake was doing as much as what Missouri was doing. All Drake had to do was read where help side came from and pass there then wait for a cutter after terrible defensive rotations 24 feet from the basket guarding non shooters. It's not that I wasn't impressed by Drake as much as I was baffled at the coaching decisions of Missouri. Missouri was long and athletic compared to Drake. Why chase? Guard the 3 point line but also kind of pack it and make Drake's guy beat them 1:1. Missouri dominated offensively in the second half, but they just could stop Drake from getting layups. Stay packed in, help from the corners and make them hit contested shots from the corners with length and speed running out at them. IDK maybe it's just me. -
Can you imagine being judged for the rest of your life for minor things you did or said at 20 years old? Sheesh. Let's get past the tribalism.

We hired Coach Ya. Those people are just whiners that aren't getting their way.

Prior to his freshman year and the first major health issue, he was thought of as more athletic and a better shooter. He was challenging Romeo in practice. The Romeo that averaged 17ppg that season. Health issues and major injuries reduced what he could have been as a player unfortunately.

So it would be a major, major step down in salary right? I mean I can get fired from my job and get another low paying job in a related field too, but it would suck and is not my choice. What they couldn't do is get another peer level job in the same field after failing. Their choices are severely diminished. -

How many as a head college basketball coach? -
Yeah, Romeo never even had a chance in the NBA. The brief moments he had some consistency, he's was a pretty good all-around player. I'm worried JHS suffers the same fate. I know folks like to pick on Clif Marshall for injuries but even in the NBA Hoosiers can't stay healthy. Eric Gordon, Victor Oladipo, OG Anunoby both have had time where they were all-stars and looking like more only to be derailed by injuries, too. Thomas Bryant was having his best season and looking like a regular starter... boom ACL tear. We are cursed.

Jerome Hunter hit 3 big 3’s tonight for Xavier. He was a freshman with Romeo. He’s still playing in the tournament, Archie and Woody aren’t. He outlasted 2 coaches and an nba career!

And often he did because the offense took a long time to develop. He was waiting for a screen, cut, or both. -

They are gone in 2030 with the newly adjusted exit fee and GOR. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/acc-settles-florida-state-clemson-lawsuits-revised-revenue-distribution-lowered-exit-fee-among-key-details/ -

When Devries was announced that's exactly what I thought. I hold Chris007, a person who I don't even know exists in the real world, accountable for grossly misleading me in a college basketball coaching search and my life is ruined. Thanks for nothing Chris007! I'll send you my therapy bills and they will be extensive! I never believed the BS hype myself, but nothing was done maliciously IMO. In fact Chris and some others seemed to really be having a lot fun with the whole experience and circus atmosphere this fanbase can provide. I don't know about true/false whatever but it's just whatever. This is the internet for God's sake. -

I think we should start it and post my most outlandish reasons he should be fired. Like his son isn't even wearing a suit and the coach has a crooked IU lapel pin which just shows the disrespect to the university. Has the man even ever been to Nick's? Fireable offense. -

I agree but also we'll never know. I think the time to get wrapped in conspiracies and smoke screens is over. Occam's Razor probably applies here like everywhere, anyway. Regardless, Coach Devries is here. Now, let's win some basketball games. -

There are some people throwing a fit because it wasn't their preferred guy or they believe Scott Dolson should be able to pull the jedi mind trick on coaches and get them to accept the Indiana job. There are a couple folks who wanted Chris Beard so bad because they view it as a part of the culture war. They need to be on the winning side or else. These are not people that will discuss and argue in good faith. They are taking the whole situation very personally. I have my doubts on Coach Devries, but you bet as an Indiana alum and fan I'll back him. We don't have a coach with no experience (Mike Davis), or who will repeatedly break rules (Sampson), or who has strange personality quirks and swings (Tom Crean), or one without a personality that can't handle the big stage (Archie Miller) or one who was given the job because he played for Bob Knight (Mike Woodson.) We have a normal, heavily experienced, grinder of a college basketball coach with a son who can shoot the lights out. That sounds like the start of something good related to Indiana basketball to me. Let the man cook before we decide if the meal is any good. -

Yeah this isn't a flashy hire that's going to win the press conference, but this guy is a basketball coach who will put in the work. I've said it a few times here: I don't care about winning the press conference, I want someone to win basketball games. We don't need to win the off-season, we need to win games. I think Devries can do that, and I'll get behind him. -

Basically everyone on the roster with eligibility if they'll let him coach them. Devries would need to bring some guys in to fill holes, but the core of Indiana's current roster can be a winning one.
