Why? He's a staunch, conservative 20+ year Texas transplant with deep religious views. Not that there is anything wrong with that but that is polar opposite to the values of Indiana University.
-
I'm not advocating Cronin over Drew, would take either in a heartbeat. I think it's wild that one person can be so dismissive of one coach over the other despite having almost identical pros and cons with nearly identical records.
-
That's exactly what I'm arguing. The knock against Cronin is that he can't get past the S16. That was the knock on Crean.... Scott Drew has a long reputation of shitting the bed in March. That isn't a secret at all.
-
14 and 16 years ago. Who cares? With the exception of the COVID year, Scott Drew teams flame out early every year which is exactly the knock @Certified Sunshine Pumper is using against Cronin (can't get past S16).
-
You're right. Cronin has a superior winning % and a vastly superior conference winning %.
-
Cronin has made it past the first weekend three times in the last four seasons. Drew's made it twice in the last ten seasons. Drew has a higher overall achievement than Cronin (national title vs F4) but the rest of their resumes are nearly identical.
-
There really isn't. Drew's best season is better than Cronin's best season but using a nearly 20 year data set, they're very comparable.
-
Scott Drew had an exceptional season during COVID and hasn't duplicated anything close to that while at Baylor the last 20+ years. We call these outliers.
-
Isn't the majority of this board against hiring Tony Bennett? Didn't he win a national title?
-
So style of play trumps results lol? Ok.
-
Pretty wild that you're so dismissive of Cronin but consider Drew a home run. Yes Drew has a national title, and yes that inflates his overall NCAAT record, but Scott Drew is the king of first weekend exits. Honestly one of the biggest knocks on him, that and his teams generally don't play defense (which lead to early exits) and he's barely over .500 in the B12. I say that and I like Scott Drew a lot. But Scott Drew and Mick Cronin are very similar coaches in my opinion and you're completely dismissive of one and falling over for the other.

Have you watched IU the last 30 years? This program has fallen significantly.
-
There’s posters who have actively rooted for IU to lose. Multiple. Lots. Many. Just stop.

Listen…You’re not allowed to brag about making more money than someone if you can’t pass a literacy test. State Law!

Two degrees (lol) and still can’t formulate a sentence. Classic.

Your bravery won’t go unnoticed. I promise.

Nothing wrong in believing in fairy tales. Don’t act surprised when you’re still at the kids table.

lol. The “smartest” employee at Safeway. Bragging about being smart when spelling and grammatical checks are readily afforded….christ. No person who brags about making money types like they read at a 3rd grade level. Stay paranoid Bailey.

Look in the mirror and I can unequivocally say I’m happy where I’m at. Is your GED framed or did you roll it and smoke it?
-
There isn’t a more qualified candidate IU could hope to hire. 12/13 tournaments, F4 appearance, 30 win season two years ago. Are we serious right now?
-
Forgive me for trying to have a realistic conversation in the general coaching candidate thread this entire time. Now that the cat is out of the bag…
-
Just call me a realist and call it a night pal.

An ounce of common sense, not to mention any semblance of optics, made it pretty clear Brad Stevens wasn’t going to be the next coach. 1. Left college in 2014 2. Walked away from coaching altogether in 2021 3. Assembled a championship winning franchise 4. Has the best roster in the NBA secured for the foreseeable future 1+1 usually equals 2. Whatever equation signals Brad Stevens coaching IU is why statistics is still an extremely tough course to pass.
-
Like I said, if you thought Brad Stevens (considering his situation) was going to be the next coach…that’s a you problem not a me problem. Stop listening to Chris.
