  1. Does Gene Smith hire the replacement or does Ohio State hire Smith's replacement as AD and let that person hire this next coach?
  2. Must have been a fun junket to Vegas! LOL
  3. I believe this is correct and I don't blame Woodson for this. Part of building a program and culture is players developing each year and earning minutes. Galloway, and to a lesser extent, Johnson have progressed in their time under Woodson. Would it be right to promise a guard would start without letting Johnson or Galloway a chance to compete? I applaud Woodson if he told portal guards they would have to compete for the position. Young players need to know that they can earn playing time and that another player won't be handed minutes ahead of them because they are perceived to be better. It's disappointing that we missed on guards, but I think establishing a culture of earning minutes is vital.
  4. I think our philosophy is recruit these 5-star players and build a relationship. Even if they don't choose us initially, we have a relationship to sign them out of the transfer portal in the future.
  5. A final payday before retiring would be my guess.
  6. FAU has 1 quad 4 loss and 1 quad 3 loss this year. The quad 4 loss is bad. So, Dusty doesn't walk on water. However, FAU moved to a better conference this year and are currently 4-3 on the road. FAU is 6-1 in neutral site games. They are also 3-1 in quad 1 games. That's a solid record, especially for a team that has moved from being the hunter, to being the hunted. The Final Four run was magical last year and will most likely not be duplicated. Losing earlier in the NCAA Tournament would not diminish what FAU or Dusty May have accomplished. Teams playing the 8-9 games or 7-10 games are typically a coin flip. You know this. That's why you are trying to set a higher bar.
  7. You do realize that Bob Knight was 11-13 his last year at Army. IU wanted a coach whose teams played good defense and with discipline so they hired Bob Knight. You should hire for fit, not always the record. Dusty (like Shertz) has built a program from the ground up. Archie was not a good fit for IU. He was never comfortable at IU. Don't pass on a mid-major coach because Archie was a bad fit.
  8. I like Nate Oats and they are currently the number 1 ranked adjusted offense on Kenpom. From a stylistic standpoint, I prefer a coach that has a great offense. Tony Bennett is a winner with a great defense, but his offense and offensive tempo are not fun to watch. Give me the offense-oriented coach. I'd love for IU to steal Oats away from Alabama. I'm not sure if the scandal last year would keep IU from considering him.
  9. TJ Otzelberger is intriguing. Currently, Iowa State is 3rd in adjusted defense and 45th in adjusted offense. I think Cronin is a good coach. He recruits length and his teams play good defense. This year with a young team they are currently ranked 28th in adjusted defense. UCLA's adjusted offense is 175th. Not good. In comparison, IU's adjusted offense is 108th.
  10. Have we decided this thread should be the "encourage coach Woodson to retire thread"? IU is not going to fire Coach Woodson. We have to come to that realization. Whether we underperformed the last 2 years or not, we did make the NCAA Tournament. The Administration even gave him a raise. So, firing isn't going to happen. Our only hope Coach Woodson wants to golf and spend time with his grandkids.
  11. Just a guess, but I would say no. That might just be too awkward.
  12. Assistants that received high major head coaching jobs without previous head coach experience. Izzo Jim Boeheim Jon Scheyer Roy Williams Hubert Davis Tommy Lloyd Greg Gard If these guys can succeed without being a head coach, I think Dusty's resume would be just fine.
  13. And with possibly 7 new players next year, we'll be getting to know each other next February as well. LOL
  14. My bad. The first article that I Googled and Glass Door showed the lower salary. I've now found other articles that show the average being around 250K.
  15. NBA assistant coaches make anywhere from $40,000 to $75,000 a year. IU is paying Mike Woodson 4.2 million a year. I don't blame Woodson for riding that gravy train as long as he can. When IU gave Woodson the raise last summer, my hope was that the raise was a way for Mike to make more money and retire earlier. I'm still hoping that's the case.
  16. Nope. Hoping for a retirement after year 4.
  17. Based on Current Kenpom, your current coaching options (top 25 both) would be: M. Painter D. Hurley T. LLoyd M. Pope (BYU) R. Barnes B. Pearl K. Sampson Shaka Smart McDermott and Izzo fall just outside of the criteria. Of the 8 listed, which would leave their current situation to take on an IU rebuild? Possibly Pearl or Pope? I would assume the rest are pretty happy with their current situations. Pope is a Kentucky alum. Could we, as IU fans, stomach that? Pearl is 64 in March.
  18. Yes. As AD I've worked my whole career for this position. If I have to play politics to keep it, that is exactly what I'm going to do.
  19. Seriously, if I was the AD it would depend on what I'm hearing from President Whitten, the Board of Trustees, and my major donors. If there is a broad desire from these groups for a change, I'm making a change and I pick Dusty May. Without a strong push for a change from these groups, I ride it out another year. As the Athletic Director, making these 3 groups happy is more important than winning.
  20. Instead of discussing names, what style do you want from our next coach (whenever that may be)? Would you prefer a coach that has a kenpom adjusted offensive rating in the top 25, but defensive rating is in the 50-100 range? Or would you prefer a coach whose adjusted defensive rating is in the top 25, but the offensive rating is in the 50-100 range?
  21. I read and hear more and more IU fans saying this. I haven't reached this point, but I know others who have. It's sad that something that has provided so much enjoyment is no longer doing that.
  22. I'm waking up from a bad dream. LOL
  23. We drafted Kelce, Kittle, and Andrews at TE, but have Bryce Young at QB.
  24. I know NIL is the new reality, but if a player is choosing IU simply because we are paying the most NIL money then all is lost. You don't build a program that way.
  25. This offense doesn't seem player friendly if you are a three-point shooting off guard. Ball dominant point guards like Hood-Schifino that can play the pick and roll seem better suited to this system. Players and their "handlers" see that. My guess is that is one reason we have a hard time recruiting guards.
