(2026 IUWBB) - Addison "Addy" Nyemchek to INDIANA
TTT replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
This is a good solid class. Verdict is out on how good. However, it’s going to take serious transfer portal help to seriously turn this program into championship contention if that’s the expectation. (one wildcard is Zoe Jackson….is she good or another project type player? And the other Z is neutralized because not being able to stay on the court. Both, Kentucky and Tennessee have 3 Mac All Americans in their 2026 classes…and in recent years IU before the current state of things won each of their games vs both programs. -
Some perspective: college Ladies basketball programs with number of players on the McDonalds All American team. 2026… Texas 3 Kentucky. 3 Duke. 2 N D 2 USC 1 UCONN. 1 LSU. 1 Tennessee. 1 Michigan State. 1 Vanderbilt. 1 N. C. 1 Nebraska. 1 Kansas. 1 Clmson. 1 IU. 1 which is first ever (some nominees but first to make team)….all this time and only 1 actual MacDonald’s All American. then there are a few programs who thrive with the McDonalds All Americans or equivalent type players.

Josh Schertz and St Louis Bilikins 21-1, a one point loss at Stanford earlier in year. Latest game St. Louis. 102 Dayton. 71

In the corrupt welfare Corporation professional sports world yes they keep failure along with government officials and ask and threaten taxpayers all the time.
-
Going to take two seasons; probably. Next season improves but borderline without 2 significant transfer portal players. (3 or 4 IU Ladies setting on the bench may need to find new homes.
-
I don’t think T. Moren necessarily missed in transfer portal (though she did) her and anyone can see familiar with the players know they were not that good and ability was limited….but the good transfer portal players would not commit to T. Moren and IU Ladies program….IU Ladies got the leftovers.
-
A couple of very high impact players from transfer portal very much needed with nucleus of current team and freshmen coming in. IU Ladies are going to have to raise level of competition for playing time and starters….as far as current roster IU may not be the place for 3 or 4 of them….they can find a place to better match their ability like Miami of Ohio for example. Though it’s a very good freshman class coming in I don’t think it’s stacked and is being overplayed but will bring improvement. Yes, All American nominees not close to being the same as an actual All American. Freshman year; it will take going into sophomore year to see significant progress….that’s why a couple of big time transfer portal players are a requirement….if it’s even possible.

I agree about….Why pride yourself on a talent thin roster. (maybe, insecurities and uncomfortable, confidence lacking)
-
Only chance for next year is a couple players from transfer portal who are like WNBA bound type players… .Side-note: though they may do it somewhat on their own anyway many very top players may not take well to being told they are expected to live in the gym and work on expanding their game by playing out of position during recruiting.
-
If I remember correctly did you call last year that the players were leaving the team to the transfer portal while others were debating and a few days later to the surprise of many, it happened?
-
T. Moren has not forgotten how to coach. However, after losing 6 players to the transfer portal, IU Ladies were not able to get one high impact player from transfer portal last year…..not even Z because of injury history which continues….. but were only able to get very average players that would come with questionable potential and T. Moren was hoping she and staff could develop them…..just not good enough at this level. T. Moren knows it. T. Moren has always kept a talent thin roster…..2 or 3 (older 5 stars that can score needed from transfer portal..:.hard to win scoring in the 60s each game….most 5 star players will play some defense and can handle and pass the ball and some can even rebound ….that’s why they are 5 stars.

Not from the current staff.

Sometimes it’s best to stand pat.

And what NIL is available comparisons across big ten and top major schools in the whole U.S…..and how things have shook out for T. Moren (because NIL will be competitive in transfer portal). Mark Cuban and or a couple others could solve the NIL situation for IU Ladies Basketball coach if anyone knows what they are doing.
-
Give T. Moren UCONN players and she wins National Championship…like many coaches. Maybe, AD and T. Moren have talked a couple times. Has 2026 under 19 USA coach been announced? Last year it was announced in May. Sidenote: which does not look promising next year for this player because of her history….Z has no timeline and is not coming back soon from other foot injury. Don’t like either title “Fire Moren” nor “Time for Moren to Move On”….unless maybe used as motivation to get a big ten win.

Overall, T. Moren post game gave a good assessment of IU Ladies. I expect her to perform and reset through 28-29 season…and be given a contract extension after 27-28 which would mean success has been achieved…..or not (success means competing at the top of the big ten conference….I see Makalusky a big part of that success along with whoever ends up as IU Ladies over the next two years. (Expecting a good story line)…. and recruiting to be in much better shape over the next couple years.
