Going up to D-I requires a lot of investments and clearly does not have immediate returns. Southern Indiana may have had a lot of success in men's basketball, but who's to say they won't be the next IUPUI or Houston Baptist in D-I? Not to mention... how many damn schools are there in D-I? If we gave D-II or even D-III schools a fairer media deal and recognition in which their existence is acknowledged beyond "well, what schools can we replace?", then I think there wouldn't be this endless desire by schools to constantly rush up to D-I. However, it also boils down to conference realignment, as conferences keep taking schools, and the lesser ones need replacements. It also affects UIndy as it leaves them the only D-II school in the state.

IUPUI is very grim this year, even for them. Currently, they only have seven players on their entire roster who can dress, and six that are available to play. One or two more injuries would be enough to cause them to forfeit the rest of the season. Doesn't help that their only two wins are against Spalding, a D-III school that KenPom was gracious enough to give them (but the NCAA still doesn't count in their NET rankings) and East-West, a school that... exists, but only plays one sport (so that win definitely will not count). Sometimes I wonder if IUPUI should even have athletics. The women's team is trying, but the school doesn't care.

Northwestern is doable, but we would have to beat a ranked team.

IUPUI finally won another game back on Monday! ... against East-West University, a school that doesn't really count as an institution for athletics besides basketball and will definitely not count in the NET rankings. But, at least the worst offensive team in the country got to feel good for one night.

Now, before this sounds like a gloom and doom thread or if you want to jump on me for what sounds like a hit piece on Tom Allen, let me explain; it feels like the one constant with Tom Allen's staff since he started that remains has been our offensive line coordinator. Unfortunately, Hiller has not been much of a benefit to the team, and his style of coaching leaves a lot to the imagination. Far too often, our O-Line look comically inept, leaving our quarterbacks vulnerable to the pass rush, forcing them to scramble on their feet or risk get sacked, which lead to potential turnovers or even injuries, and the common sight of our "protection" staring at our fallen QB wondering what happened to him has went far beyond comical into the infuriating. Sure, there were a few bright spots during his time, such as minimizing sacks back in 2020 and his ability to produce the occasional NFL ready talent, but the negatives far outweigh the positives. Yet... getting rid of Hiller is a challenge on two fronts; the sentimental front and the financial front. Tom Allen has worked with Hiller not only here but at Arkansas State, where Allen was an assistant coach, and financially, Allen had to take a pay cut to allow enough clearance for the program to fire Nick Sheridan. The sentimental barrier is something that I think is possible for Allen himself to overcome... eventually, but right now, I don't know about the financial barrier. IU football will always be regarded as the sad sack of college football programs, so you won't see people throwing millions of dollars to make problems go away. And, obviously, if Tom Allen leaves, Hiller clearly goes, so the question is really "Will Darren Hiller be fired, or will Darren Hiller leave as a result of something happening to Tom Allen?"

Agreed. I don't even care about that damn spittoon. We don't even win enough against the Spartans to justify it. Purdue should be the locked game, and everything else is fair game. However, knowing our luck, we're forever bound to playing Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State every year.
