Uh...DDV has zero players coming back from last year's roster. Of course he's going to have to "earn" a top 25 ranking. He's not going to get it based on last year's players or finish. If IU wins, the rankings and tournament will take care of themselves. I don't know why anyone would worry about preseason rankings at this point. Yes, they can be helpful, but he has zero returning players. LOL

It's not like MM is a complete stiff. He was co-frosh of the year in the B1G under Mike Woodson. I understand that the defense was completely focused on TJD during that season, but still. MM isn't carmelo anthony or anything, but certainly a better coach than Woody should be able to coax a decent season out of him. He's tall, got a good build, and can shoot. He can be a good stretch 4 if he's really pushed to do the little things (which I don't think he was under Woody). Yes, he's limited athletically, but so are a lot guys. That's why it's insane that Woody played him at the 3 for so long.

Well, who cared about opening up the floor? We always had 2 bigs that we had to feed, clogging up the lane. Come on, man! Priorities... LOL

Actually, change that to a few 3-stars and lower 4-stars, and you've basically got Purdue's formula. It may not have worked very well in the tourney, but it works like gangbusters during the regular season for them. I guess the question is, will it continue to work given the increased player movement each year?

This. A huge part of a coach's job now is to handle each school's recruiting "cap." Unless you're a school that can keep going back to boosters over and over again for specific recruits, you've got to be able to manage your recruiting resources in smart Bill Belicheck kind of way. That means letting players go if they're either not producing or too expensive. This is going to be especially tricky for someone in DDV's situation, given that he's got to fill the entire roster and that the player's salaries seem to have grown quite a bit this year. I don't envy him...

Gotta disagree with you there. He was horrible for Kansas, and Kansas fans were thrilled to see him gone. Definite questions about his attitude. That's the biggest red flag for me. With DDV turning over the roster, you have to think that he has zero interest in bringing in anyone like Storr in his first year.
