Well, one of the recruits in that scandal said he wouldn't consider any school that couldn't guarantee he would get laid on the recruiting visit. As memory serves I think he wound up at OSU, LOL. Can't remember his name and who knows if that was true ;-)

Yep, I think Dolson is the Godfather. That's why there have been no leaks. Dolson says "Any of youse guys squeal, Sonny and Luca gonna pay you a visit!"

If it's Brad I could see that. Both of them being NBA coaches at the same time means their teams would have played against each other. So Brad might feel some professional respect to not announce until the season is over even it's not warranted. JMO.

Watford got picked and Cody didn't switch, had nightmares about that for weeks, hated Ill in those days, like today, lol

I agree. Although we hate it, keeping things quiet is important until this deal is signed and delivered. There’s an interesting story along these lines regarding when Bob Knight was hired. Some of you are aware of Rogers Group Crushed Stone in Bloomington. In the mid seventies Rick Rechter, the grandson of the founder Ralph Rogers, was the president of the Bloomington division of the company. There were two other brothers, also presidents in their respective divisions in Nashville Tn., and Louisville where I worked. All three were big supporters of their respective universities, ie., IU, UL, and Vandy. The story goes: Bob Knight was under consideration for the Wisconsin HC job a couple of years before he was hired by IU. It seems like he became angry when his name was mentioned in connection with the job and he withdrew. So, when Knight was negotiating with IU his absolute requirement was he would not sign the deal until he was present at IU when it was announced. Rogers Group has a fleet of planes they use to get around to all their facilities. So, ole Rick, supporter, donor and friend of Knight flew out to get him and brought him back for the announcement, and the rest is history. I heard this when I was working there in the mid eighties. I do know several folks on my team caught a ride with Knight on their planes when we were moving around the divisions a lot. However, whether the story is true or not, I do believe they are concerned with leaks messing up the deal which is why the word is getting out to quiet down.

I have complete confidence in Scot Dolson. Some say he's playing chess while others are playing checkers. Based on the Cig hire I think it's more like he's a computer. He used consultants to come up potential FB hires, and his own team to do background checks and vet them. He fed all that into his brain, and decided who he wanted and was ready to roll within a few days after he fired Allen. I bet he even had contingency candidates. I believe he's been doing the same thing with this hire, and has been working on this well before the Woodson "retirement". I think he's also been keeping this under wraps, and knows a leak could cause his guy to back out. If i remember that was a requirement when we hired Bob Knight. I also think he has a contingency plan in case #1 doesn't work out. However my gut says he "has his guy" but the timing isn't right and probably won't be until the IU season and maybe others are over. I know absolutely no one connected to the hire. Just my 2 cents.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Scott is on a roll. Last year he fired our loser football coach and 4 days later introduced our new coach who won AP Coach of the year and got us into the CFB playoffs. This year he forced out the worse bball coach we've probably ever had. The letter was extremely well written although he probably threw up in his mouth a few times composing it! I like the fact though that he took the high road and showed class, even though it wasn't earned. Makes IU look good to the outside world and doesn't change things. Just so so so glad this mess is over. I can now watch the games without being conflicted on whether to wish us to win or loose. Anyway, Scott's on a roll, what's his next big move? I'm thinking it really could be the "Masshole" this time, but whoever it is I think will be great... Just my 2 cents... -

I think the booing will be even worse and the chant will change to "Retire Woody". Because the Woodson statement said "Contemplating" many will think coming back is still an option. Will.be.ugly -

If true, could be Woodson wouldn't agree to a "retirement" so Dolson says "ok, you're fired" -

IU trails by only 1 and has the ball with 10 seconds to go. Painter is worried. IU has played well and Gallo, Ballo, Goode and Bako have all played well. He sees Price with ball and thinks "this guy hasn't scored all night must be a pick and roll or pass play coming up. Then he looks down the bench and sees Woodson, smiles, and thinks "Nah, we got this!". -

That sounds very logical to me. I also think the timing will be less on wins and losses than it will be on more episodes in the Hall like what we saw against Illinois. -

Although not at the Illinois game I can’t get the images of the boos, “Fire Woodson clap clap clap clap”, the students leaving in mass, and the sad almost empty Hall several minutes before the game ended, out of my head. I attended IU the four years before RMK and I’ve never seen anything like it. I also remember they gave up the opportunity to host the first round of NIT in Crean’s last year because they didn’t want the world to see the hostility of the crowd. I think the win at OSU won’t move the needle that much. Even if we win at Northwestern I expect some boos and a light crowd. However a loss at Northwestern could real ugly again. Just my 2 cents, but I think they could be sweating about the Maryland game up in the Ivory tower. -

Awesome news! I'm surprised he didn't test the NBA but really glad he's coming back. Maybe Woody told him what to work on to improve his stock, like he did TJD. -

John Wayne said it way before that in the movie "She wore a yellow ribbon". One of my favorite lines but it doesn't work at all in my house! In fact it's probably the exact opposite :-)
