I don't think we can afford to wait until April 1 to name a coach. Especially not for Cronin.
-
I wouldn't be opposed to Cronin as about 8th or so on the list. But his buyout is $16 million. Unless UCLA is desperate enough to lower that by 70-80%, that simply isn't happening.
-
Whenever you find yourself taking on an entire forum, 100:1, you might want to consider that perhaps, just perhaps, you are the problem.

Something tells me the lesson didn't stick...
-
If not Brad, then make it Otz.
-
I seriously think you'd be happier at HSN. They largely don't buy the Brad rumors, and he's almost never discussed. You might want to give that site a try.
-
That's always stuck with me too, and seems consistent with the kind of guy Brad is supposed to be. But I've also heard others insist he'd only come back to college to coach at IU. But that post has reduced my hopes for Brad.
-
I do wonder what Brad could still be mulling over at this point. Unless he's trying to squeeze every last dime out of IU, it seems that by now any potential questions would have been answered, and any concerns resolved to the best of IU's ability. So it seems to me that in all likelihood, he must either be in or out at this point. The idea that he's still in play, but not committed, seems unlikely.
-
I guess it can cut either way, but being the only team in the top 100 when the rest of the league is 164 or worse, is actually really impressive to me. Doesn't mean it'll level up, or that he's the man for IU, but I think that suggests Hess had a brighter future than someone able to leverage A10 level resources into a top 100 Net.

Greg Gard is an interesting option. Hadn't even though of him yet. But there's a lot to like, but also some concerns as well.
-
It's all a matter of perspective. Would I rather have Brad, Otz, Dusty, or Drew? Sure. But are we in a good position if McDermott or Cronin are the floor for this search? Absolutely. Either one would be the best coach at IU since Sampson. So yes, by all means take a swing at all the HR candidates. But if McDermott is willing to come, he's a really nice fallback option.

What if I told you there was one national championship HC we are overlooking. Plus he has recent NBA head coaching experience, as well as strong prep connections thanks to his run at Overtime Elite. He's also still just 52 years old. What if I told you that coach is Kevin Ollie...

I would find it much more believable that Woody knows when a candidate has taken himself out of the running, because there is nothing to sabotage there. But I would find it highly implausible Woody would know who we're still actively negotiating with.
-
I don't think it's totally implausible that Woody would have heard Brad was out of the running. If Brad's statement to Goodman on the 14th was definitive, then word may have reached Woody. That would also be consistent with an interpretation of things going silent since then, insofar as after Brad, Dolson may have needed to wait until mid-March to seriously pursue any current coach. Not saying that's necessarily what happened, just that you can come up with a plausible story (although I know some of the insiders will say that's not right...and perhaps rightly so).

He wears his polos too tight to coach here...
-
I'd be shocked if we hire someone who hasn't been at least mentioned on this board. And if so, that's probably not a good sign. I mean, we've seriously discussed Turgeon and Groce, for goodness sakes.
-
Others have mentioned Few, Wright, Brad, and Self. I'd add Oats.
-
Not saying it'll be Drew, but the issue isn't just NIL, it's revenue-share in a post-House settlement world. Big 10 schools are better positioned than Big XII schools to pay athletes the full allowable amount of revenue share. So many Big XII schools may soon find themselves at a monetary disadvantage in recruiting aside from NIL. And then add in the fact that IU had suggested it'll not only pay the full allowable revenue share amount, but will allocate a higher percentage of those funds to hoops than most schools, and IU may soon be in a particularly favorable position compared to most other programs. Whether that's enough to get Drew to move is another matter. But there are reasons to think that the IU job might be especially appealing now, even in ways that might not have been the case for the UK opening last year given the timing of the House settlement.

Ok, ok...so natty for 3 more years of Woody was too much. Final 4 but Woody comes back 3 more years?
-
Here's a question...would you rather have Woodson win the natty this year, but then come back for 3 more years, or go out in the first weekend, but get a new coach? Would the answer change if you knew the new coach wasn't Brad/Drew/Otz/Pearl/Few?
-
This could very well be true, but is Kansas really that preferable a job to IU? I get they've been much better under Self than we've been, but in terms of facilities, support, etc., are they really that far ahead? At a minimum, IU has a more fertile recruiting territory in its home state/region.

Mark Turgeon - A Coaching Candidate? Or Not

My guess is that if you took a poll, less than 50 percent of people here actually think Brad will be the next coach. Probably we'll under 50 percent, in fact. Brad is the most fun coach to discuss. But that doesn't mean a majority of the board actually thinks he'll be the guy. Even Chris has said (at times, at least) that if forced to guess he doesn't think it'll be Brad.

If Isaac is the leak, we're all in trouble.
