The problem is the administration keeps hiring guys the fan base never wanted. I have a long list of family and friends that attended IU and are huge basketball fans. The only hire after Bobby that any really supported was Sampson. Most of the fans are already rooting for loses to speed up the firing process before the coach has even coached his first game. Bring in Beard, Pearl, or Marshall and the fans would all rally behind them. You're probably right about Drew but he was very doable when we fired Archie imo. Dusty May be a grand slam. We just don't know with him. Whenever Woody is canned the administration needs to do what it hasn't done before...give the fans what they want.

I told everyone at the time that Woody would be just as bad as Archie possibly worse. Trayce saved his @$$ for 2 years. Now you're starting to see the real Mike Woodson.

He was a complete scramble hire. Dolson thought he had Stevens in the bag otherwise Archie isn't fired for another year. Went after Holtmann, Matta, etc first.

It's a business not a charity. The Colts had no problem throwing away an aging Peyton Manning, the best player in franchise history, for what they thought was the next Peyton. We could easily have the next Brad Stevens here and our current coach is 66 and pretty mediocre. The fact that this is even a discussion just shows me how lost we are as a program.

Timing is always just a convenient excuse for our completely inept administration. Any other school would make it work.

I asked Chris on here about Pearl, Drew, Marshall, and Pitino shortly after we hired Woody. He responded saying IU was far too holy to ever consider those 4. I'm sure we reached out to BS, Donovan, Oats, etc but we're not getting those guys. The sure fire winners we could land will have some baggage. That's really what I'm hitting at. Think Chris Beard who would win big here and would likely crawl to Bloomington.

You're making our point. If we miss the dance this season and it's looking like next season won't be any better I can almost guarantee you any other top 10 program would be cutting bait right now. Alford took UCLA to 3 S16s in 4 years and got canned. But we're IU. Gotta give our 66 year old coach in the NIL and portal era at least 6 years. The problem IU has is outside of Sampson the fan base has never been behind any of the post-Knight hires. People are already turning on Woody and it will keep getting worse. Gonna get ugly I'm afraid.

Unfortunately I feel your right. Our only real hope is that we get Dusty May and he turns out to be a great coach. Certainly possible. But IU will never go out and hire a sure fire winner like Pearl or Drew. We're way too holy for that.

Pitino for sure. Matta wanted the job bad. Beilein as well. Cal supposedly wanted it when we fired Davis.

We have 2 problems. One we hold onto to coaches way too long. Second, our administration is extremely picky. They refuse to hire any surefire winner if that guy has even an ounce of baggage in his past. Think Bruce Pearl. If they ever hire a big name it would have to be a Brad Stevens or a Jay Wright. My chances of winning the Powerball are about as likely as that. We are just too holy as Chris once said.

And he won't have a title game run to bail him out for a few years like Davis did.

Solution: Fire Woody after the season and hire Dusty May. Woody is 66 and will not be here long no matter what. Dusty could coach another 20+ years and looks very promising. See what he can do here. It can't possibly get any worse and he could very well be the next big thing. We know what we have with Woody and it's not the answer.
