He's definitely intriguing but we can't take that risk right now. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Kentuckysucks replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
At least we have Armond Hill. "In 1991, Hill entered the collegiate level by returning to his alma mater Princeton as an assistant coach under Pete Carril. In 1995, he succeeded Jack Rohan as head coach at Columbia University. In eight seasons as head coach of the Lions, Hill was unable to lead the team to a winning campaign and compiled a 72–141 record. On March 10, 2003, two days after Columbia finished with a 2–25 record (0–14 in Ivy League play), the worst season in the school's 103-year basketball history, Hill was fired." -

Best case scenario for them is that Woody retires voluntarily and Stevens decides he wants to coach college basketball again. -

Same thing happened to Greenspan. Biggest mistake both made was they didn't immediately walk. Do a full interview with Peegs, the IndyStar, etc. Put the administration on full blast. They'd be out of a job within a week. -

I just pray that whenever we hire the next coach we simply go out and get the best coach we can get and do not let any external factors influence the hiring decision. Don't hold your breath. -

We'd be in a much better spot with Bruce Pearl as our coach next season vs Woody no matter how we got there. Fact. -

Hasn't hurt other programs. OSU fired Matta for one bad season with a HOF caliber record. Howland went to 3 FFs in 4 years. Got fired. Alford went to 3 S16s in 4 years. Fired. We could go on and on. IUs biggest mistake besides hiring incompetent coaches is that we hold onto them way too long. Woody is about 66. Regardless of what happens he's gone in the next few years. -

I just disagree. Year 3 is usually when good coaches get you rolling. They almost never take a step back. Look at the current ISU coach. Heck Archie had is in the dance in year 3 had it not been cancelled. I know this won't be popular but Trayce coming back for 2 more years likely did more damage than good for the program. Woody would've been on the hot seat last year otherwise and certainly fired after this season. -

Last season they blew out Duke, Gonzaga, FSU, Marquette, and WVU.

Mike Davis is on the list no surprise. We always hire completely awful coaches outside of Sampson. There is no curse and it's not the fans fault people.

The big names the IU administration is willing to hire are not coming. There are big names who would come. -
Purdue would hang a banner for that.
-
NBA guys are not made for college. Just a completely different animal. This has been obvious to everyone for years. Well almost everyone.
-
Before last season I believe he had made the tournament 8 straight seasons. The IU administration would erect a statue for those results.

And despite being a football school they have expectations in Columbus. Just making the NCAA tournament nearly every year isn't enough. Matta was fired for 2 average seasons despite multiple FFs, numerous B1G regular season and tournament titles, etc.
