I'm obviously not saying they don't need a staff & GM. I'm saying any strong candidate for this job should already know what they need and have people in mind to fill those roles without the AD trying to mitigate shortcomings on his own.

I don't dislike McCollum but I have immediate concerns about any candidate that needs the AD to immediately build up a support system to cover gaps in his ability to run a big-time program. That's such a red flag.

This is probably a dead horse, but I just have a hard time with any of these 60+ coaches (Pitino, Few, Pearl, Self, McDermott). I have no doubt they could give you a very good 5-6 year window. But the prospect of doing this again in 5 years is exhausting. It probably means this thread is fired up in year 3-4 with speculation. I don't know. Maybe that's just the nature of college bball at this point. I would love to see a great candidate with a 15+ year shelf life though.
