Thanks so much! My wife has been reminding me to donate for months now, and I figured I'd missed the chance. Thankfully I haven't.

So, I just got a message that I can renew my men's basketball season tickets. This will be my second year with season tickets. I was given advice that if I want to get my seats moved up, that I should donate some money. Doesn't have to be a ton of money, just some. Has anyone done this before? Just curious, because there are a number of funds and campaigns that I can donate too. Also, does anyone know if I donate now, would that be considered when seat selection is determined? Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks! Come to find out that the TSN network, Canadians version of ESPN, will be showing all the mens and womens games across their networks. They just weren’t showing the first four! Now I can avoid this conference and just watch basketball.

I am currently in Toronto till Saturday for a conference, and I’ve tried everything to watch the first four for the mens and womens tournaments. Hulu Live, nope. VPN, nope. Sports bars only have hockey, tennis, and baseball. I think I might actually crossed the river Styx. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against Canada. But, I’ve certainly got something against ridiculous cross-border licensing regulations, which is making me hate Canada at the moment.

Crap. Can’t figure out how to flip it.

My wife and I were at Mackey today. The amount of IU fans there was amazing! It was a great atmosphere all around and such a fun game to watch. Loved that Holmes stepped out for that 3!

My father in-law is a Purdue grad. And a diehard follower of Purdue basketball. He is an amazing man, who though had a good career just will never really spend money on himself. So, for Christmas I gave him my two season tickets for the game. A hard choice, but I figured he deserved it. So, I’ll be watching it from home today. But, I did describe him to my students and told them to heckle him a bit if they see him :)

I've got two tickets to the Rutgers at IU game on Tuesday, Feb 7 at 6:30. They are in row 34 section H seats 109 and 110. Selling them for 100 each, and can digitally transfer them to you through IU ticketing. I am a season ticket holder, but can't make this game because both my wife and I have to teach during that time this week. Reach out if interested. Edit: sold

At the Bloomington Faculty Council meeting today, Dolson presented and said that the women’s team has an average gpa of 3.62. That’s simple amazing. And that Grace Berger recently had a journal article published. Also amazing!

Been looking forward to this game all week! My wife and I are bundled up. Shots to keep us warm. Now a 20 min walk to the game!!!

Walked by there at around 7:00 AM on my way to teach my 8:00 AM class and there was already a line. Also, I had a few students tell me that they saved one of their excused absences so that they could line up early. Love that.

That’s such a bummer! I called 1 min after I saw the email, but they didn’t call back for an hour, at which point I was in a meeting with a senior colleague. Luckily my colleague said to take it and that the call was more important than the meeting!!!

As a faculty member, I just got an email today saying I could buy season tickets, so I jumped on two tickets immediately. I am pumped, because I've been on the waiting list for a couple of years. I am not able to make a number of games for various reasons (vacation, conferences, classes, etc.), so I'd like to sell those that I can't go to. I was wondering what people's experience has been with sites like Stubhub, and if that is the best way to sell them. Any advice would be great.

Gotta love Coach Woodson. I am about to play at Ultimate Frisbee Nationals in Denver with an IU Alumni team, and he did a sweet and genuine Cameo for the team. I wish he was our Coach this weekend!

Tips on how to watch the game on CBS today without cable. I still mooch off my folks for their cable to watch games online, but sadly CBS knows that I am not in the same zip code as them, unlike Fox. So, HuluTv or YouTubeTv? I figured I should probably purchase a subscription for March.

I appreciate it. I had intended to keep updating it, but once the semester started I've had no time. I won't get my life back until my classes are over. Perhaps, I could convince one of my students to do it :) Who knows, maybe I'll get a free weekend, and I'll give it a shot.

The students are pumped. One of my students was in line this morning, but left to come to my office hours, while his friends saved his spot. I sure hope that he didn’t lose his spot just for office hours!

Thanks, Stuhoo. It’s only as good as the data, which was quite messy and required a lot of cleaning. So there could be some errors, of course. I am going to think about the whole righty/lefty thing and whether it is accurately represented in this viz, because it might not be. The x/y coordinates were plotted for the full court, so I did some cleaning to make it represent only half court. With that in mind, i think it might be incorrect to interpret it the way that you are. That’s why I asked for feedback :) I’ll play around with it some at a later date, but I was supposed to clean up the garage this morning, so I better get to that.

Perhaps this might be a good thread to add this to, or perhaps not. I'll let the mods decide. I got curious the other day about where the players have been taking their shots on the court. My curiosity was sparked when someone was chatting about where PS tends to take his shots, and how he rarely, if ever, drives. So, I found a dataset on Sportsradar that has play-by-play data for every game any includes x/y coordinates. Using that dataset, I put together this dashboard of player shot selection, type, and where the shots are taken on the court. On a similar topic to spending, I created a dashboard using the College Athletics Financial Information Database to assess college athletics revenue for all FBS schools. The data is aggregated for all sports, I could have broken down by sport, but I haven't yet. They find it incredibly interesting, especially those who love college sports!
