Wright hit a 3 at the end. Dybantsa had 22 points in the second half. Real fun game.

Part of me wonders if Conerway would actually work better off the bench if Dorn were to start if only for the fact that he can score. Think Enright would be more likely to accept a bench role based on his history with DDV. Wonder if we ever see a change in the starting backcourt. I would like to. But I sort of doubt it. Happy to see Alexis get the nod now, so maybe though.

I saw a picture of him on the cart in one of these threads, unfortunately

Dybantsa will almost certainly put on a show in the 2nd half IMO

I'm absolutely gutted for Daley. Maybe he misses the Rose Bowl but could return later? Doubtful I'm sure. Ugh. We've been so fortunate with the injury bug for the most part. Really hurts to miss him and Wyatt on the edge. Ugh.

Bumping these posts from the Lindenwood game thread. Just because it's timely for this discussion, not to put anyone on blast. Sorry Stu :) While I agreed with much of this post, including the sentiment that it's a good time to be an Indiana basketball fan (because I like DeVries still), but I was very skeptical about the "whether we win 28 games or 21 games" bit. We were 5-0 after Lindenwood coming off a win over Marquette, which has since become much less impressive. We played 4 OOC P5 teams and many of us were hoping to go at least 2-2 against them. We play 24 P5 teams between OOC and B10 play. I thought then and think now that going 9-15 or worse in those games is possible. We're now 7-2. Best case scenario we finish OOC play at 11-2. Worst case probably 9-4. 19 Big Ten games left and we're 0-1 so far. Looking at the schedule, I think it's certainly a possibility we end up closer to 17/18 games than 21+. Only feel semi good about Washington, @ Maryland, @ Rutgers, Minnesota and @ Ohio State. ... All this to say it may end up being a worse season on paper than the worst years with Archie and Woody, but I will still think the program is on better footing with DeVries at the helm. Just going to try and enjoy this season where possible. Really need to hit on our priority portal targets for next year. Critical.

It's been a tough stretch. I think he's not very quick or long for his position and other teams are game planning for him and Tucker, so he doesn't get easy looks too often. I don't mind a well-timed deep 3 but he has settled for bad shots a lot recently IMO. He needs to be constantly moving off ball like Steph Curry. He's not great finishing around the rim but I like when he is actively cutting. Do it enough and the defense will have to adjust and he will get some easier looks. Not to mention potentially get them into foul trouble. We also probably need another shooter on the floor to help spread the floor and take some attention off Lamar. Gotta have this game tonight.

If he ever wins a natty here, he instantly belongs on the Mount Rushmore of CFB's greatest coaches IMO. To turnaround the losingest program in the sport as quickly as he has can only be compared to a video game, lol. Unprecedented. I don't want to jinx it either but it's awesome to have one of the best college football teams in the country. Can only imagine how great portal recruiting is going to be coming off this season.

The other day I was reading the comments on a social media post talking about the GOAT college football coach conversation. The debate was mostly about if one championship at Indiana is enough for Cig to be mentioned in the same breath as Saban. It was 50/50 between people agreeing with that or saying "he needs at least three." The fact it's not insane to think IU could win 3 football championships over the next decade is the closest thing to a miracle I've ever witnessed in sports...

ND in the Big 10 makes a lot of sense. Not sure if it ever happens though. I think playing OSU, Michigan, PSU, and IU regularly would give them more losses each year than they're comfortable with. Their reaction to not making the playoffs has been eye opening and some of the logic is really funny. On one of their main boards, the most popular idea being shared is to start their own national conference with East and West divisions lol. "College football needs Notre Dame more than Notre Dame needs the rest of college football" ... is just downright funny. Some want to rip the band aid off and just join a conference. Others say conferences would benefit disproportionately from having ND's brand and they'd lose their "seat at the table" as the only single school with an AD who faces off with all these conference commissioners. Many of them are coming to grips with the reality that it's time to join a conference and they don't actually have as much leverage as they thought they did. So they're starting to ask "would the Big Ten even have us? And on what terms?" ... when not so long ago they were the apple of every conference's eye during expansion. Won't be surprised at all if ND plays a major part in putting the final nail in the NCAA's coffin. Seems inevitable the way things are headed.

There's no chance Wyatt comes back, right?
-
If this Daley rumor is true, moving forward I propose a new program rule that all celebrations must take place with two feet firmly planted on the ground at all times. Lol... can't be 275+ and jumping for joy all willy nilly
-
Have a few ND fan friends who think they're going to strike a similar arrangement with the Big 12

Could easily envision Cig not wanting to tip his hand about an injury like this until as close to the next game as reasonably possible. If boards with posters in/near the AD have deleted threads about it, I assume it's because the program didn't want this to leak yet. Maybe it's wrong for me to assume that... but I am also hoping the boards are off on this. Would be a total gut punch and that's an understatement.

Home Jersey finds this news very displeasing... Hoping for the best...

Totally agree. I'm hoping Dorn starts to show some consistent production that we can pencil him in as a starter next year with Sisley. We may need Dorn in the starting lineup this year the way things are looking IMO... Then we'd need a big man and two quick guards who can shoot well (plus some depth). Miles has fallen out of the rotation, which is a bummer, because he looks the most athletic of anyone on the roster IMO and thought he would add something for us on defense / rebounding. If he and Harris can be rotation players next year, that'd be huge for portal spending purposes. Not sure how many, if any, of the returning players get "Creaned." Either way, a lot of work for the staff to do come portal season. Would be nice to have enough money to grab a big fish or two. Otherwise we need to find a few Fisher / Sarrat types... and that can be hard. DDV doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who crushes the donor shmoozing right off the bat. But that's total speculation based on his "unassuming ball coach" personality

My thoughts are: --- I don’t believe it was ever a "fairly certain conclusion" that Indiana was spending top 7 or likely higher NIL money. Definitely not in this past cycle where this roster was formed. Not sure what led you to believe that? I also think that Conwell knew he wanted to go to Lousville and we didn’t make an offer he couldn’t refuse. That’s a decision the staff may come to regret, sure. --- I agree it’s obvious it’s not a roster with high end talent but I don’t think that was anybody’s expectation after seeing it. I definitely don’t think a high end roster is determined by money spent. I think it’s really tough to have any degree of confidence in NIL numbers that aren’t public record. Obviously you want to have money to compete in this era. Don’t think you NEED to spend the most money and Kensucky this season confirms that. I am fine with the “moneyball” strategy as long as the formula is correct and the prioritization is right. --- I think basketball is going to need to be comfortable rolling like that because football is rightly going to get first dibs on the money pot. I wouldn’t brand it as “cannibalizing.” It’s being invested wildly successfully there and they’ve earned that level of support. It also may pay dividends for the rest of the AD with enough sustained success... ...My final thoughts are that I think this staff was really hampered by not being full strength at the start of the offseason. I expect the roster to be upgraded next year. Don’t know or care what we’ll have to pay to get that done. And I think we still have some fun ahead of us with this group. Ups and downs for sure.

How about Va Tech hiring Brent Pry, who they just fired as HC, as their new DC? He's a James Franklin guy so not totally shocking but don't think I've ever seen a move like that before.

I'm generally with you that it's too early to say we are cooked, but KSU is not proving to be any better than Marquette at this point. Kentucky might not even be a Q1 NET game when we play them either. We need to at least beat PSU or all the worst case scenarios will seem more likely than not IMO. Time to show what we're made of.
