Bracketology and Team Resumes
Home Jersey replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Geez so it won't be until well after 10pm in all likelihood. I may be an old geezer by now but that's awfully late to start a game. Hope the team is dialed in this week and staff has put a lot of thought into the routine for the week. Pumped about this bracket. Let's go IU!!!!! -

I don't know a whole lot about Houston aside from the fact they prioritize offensive rebounding vs transition defense. I don't think it's a great match up at all for us, but they're definitely not invincible. It's going to be tough to beat any 1 seed so I'm not mad about the draw. I am concerned about getting past Miami -

How do we match up with Miami? -
IUBB 2023 B1G Tournament March 8-12, 2023
Home Jersey replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Bates has not been very productive this year, but it's nice to see him building some momentum the past few games. Hope it carries over into the tournament, we are a much better team when he gets going. If he puts in a lot of work this offseason and plays up to his potential next year, he could surprise a lot of us. It doesn't surprise me that Race, Trey and Kopp have stretches for a few games where they play well and other stretches where they either don't do much or play poorly. What we really need, is for Kopp to let it rip when he is open. Not sure why he is so hesitant lately, but it is hurting us. We can't win in March without at least 1 (ideally 2) of those 3 contributing a solid performance along with TJD and JHS. When JHS isn't on, we have such a hard time being competitive. I get that college is full of streaky players but going 5+ minute stretches without points this time of year will be what does us in come the tournament. It is great that we have come back so many times this year, but today shows what happens when its too little, too late. We have to find ways to avoid those long scoring droughts, whether its feeding TJD, JHS in the mid-range, finding an open Trey/Kopp/Bates on the perimeter, or trying to draw a foul and get to the line. We really, really, really miss XJ in these instances. Will always wonder "what if..." about his injury this year. I personally like Reneau more than Race, but I won't complain about how the minutes are being split right now for the most part. That pic of JG on the bench, makes me think he is gone in the offseason. Wish him the best on his next chapter, wherever it is, if it comes to that... Don't understand how people are griping over Woodson at this point. This being year 2, the progress is obvious. I hope we can play tough and smart and get to the S16 (or further), load up in the portal, and keep getting this program back on the right track. -

Billing TJD as a point center is a little funny, but I'll allow... -
Fair enough, no TJD is going to walk through that transfer portal door. But, when you look at UNC - when they had Brady Manek, they got hot at the right time and made a run to the championship game. With Nance, in the same transfer big type of role, they missed the tournament. Which is what I'm saying when I mean if we get the right fit/quality bigs, I could see us having a competitive team. We'll see. I'm just glad we've still got some of this season left in front of us!
-
Do the Nebraska and PSU wins mean if we beat Michigan and Rutgers beats NW we get the 2 seed? And if NW beats RU we get the 3 seed?
-
Huge 3 at the end of the first half for PSU. The difference between being down 12 and 15 at halftime feels pretty significant for only being 3 points.
-
Couldn't throw the ball into the ocean if they were standing on the beach right now. Hope today goes differently for us.
-
Of course haha. Definitely need this win!!!!
-
Lot of ball game left. PSU does look pretty bad right now though, yikes. Can someone remind me, I'm sure its posted somewhere and I've missed it, but for the double bye do we just need 1 of RU/PSU to win? Or are there other factors I'm forgetting?

Last year's portal has 30+ guys who this year averaged 10+ ppg and 3/4+ apg or rpg. Many in there averaging 15+, I stopped counting after 30 on this page: https://247sports.com/Season/2022-Basketball/TransferPortalTop/ If you can find two bigs who average 12-14 ppg and 8-10 rpg, I think that can be a competitive team. Add a 3 and D kind of wing player and I think we can be in a similar position to this year or better. Still too many variables to say anything with great confidence yet.
-
I think that largely depends on how good the transfer portal bigs we bring in are. And how much the guys currently on the roster improve over the offseason of course.
-
Do we have reason to believe he is unhappy/the staff or university is unhappy with him?
-
Source?
-
Yeah? We'll see. I know people speculate about Bates and Geronimo... I could see Bates transferring more likely than Geronimo. But that's me speculating based on 0 facts lol. Agree Banks will have a bigger role next year, could see him playing ~15-24 mins per game over the course of the season
-
Could definitely see us going with that lineup for long stretches too. I see him and Geronimo fighting for a lot of the same minutes.
-
We are really thin in the front court at the moment. Woodson will need to land some major talent in the portal for this roster to be top 5 in the B10, but I don't think it's unlikely. If Bates and Geronimo to take a few steps forward over the offseason, we could be dark horses IMO. Would like to see us pick up some guys who are 6'10"+ for once. PG: XJ // Gunn // Gabe Cupps SG: Trey // Bates // Jakai SF: Portal player // Geronimo // Banks PF: Reneau // Geronimo C: Portal player // Portal player
-
Would obviously be a major and much needed pick up for next year's roster. If we can pick up 2 portal bigs and a wing/shooter, we can be competitive again. But we're going to really miss TJD, Race, Kopp... so would be great to have XJ leading in the backcourt

Edit: I'm late to the news
-
Not to be that guy, but, .... we kind of overcame the officiating last night and still won somewhat comfortably. That foul disparity was no joke. The free throw shooting disparity was no joke. Obviously an IU win didn't fit the B10's ideal narrative... and we still punched them in the mouth and got a win
